The Commissioner of Police, Wellington
Dear Sib,-
Police Examinations.
As requested, I have completed marking examinationpapers in Evidence and Prescribed Statutes, and now enclose schedule of marks allotted to the various candidates.
The papers presented by constables sitting for the Sergeants’ Examination were, on the whole, very satisfactory, and showed careful preparation on the part of the candidates. Papers presented by candidates for the Senior Sergeants’ Examination were disappointing, and with two exceptions did not exhibit the knowledge which one would expect from candidates for this examination. In contrast, the candidates for the Sub-Inspectors’ Examination showed in the majority of cases a sound knowledge of their subjects with satisfactory results. Yours faithfully, (Sgd.) W. G. Riddell, Stipendiary Magistrate.
. Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, 12th December, 1927. The Commissioner of Police, Wellington. Sir,— Re Police Examinations. The members of the Examination Board have completed marking the papers of candidates for Police and Detective Duties and Police Force Act and Regulations, and enclose schedule of results herewith. In each section a number of the papers submitted showed careful reading on the part of successful candidates, and most of those who failed to reach the required standard did good work in one or more of their subjects. To obtain 60 per cent, of marks in the subjects under review is a severe test, and seven candidates for the rank of SubInspector failed to reach the required percentage. Two candidates failed in the Examination for Senior Sergeant, and five in that set for Sergeants. The Board of Examiners repeat their suggestion of last year that the regulations be amended so that only candidates who have passed the examination for Sergeant and Senior Sergeant be eligible to sit for the Sub-Inspectors’ Examination in subjects other than literary, and that the Literary Examination he taken at any time after joining the Force. Yours faithfully, (Sgd.) W. G. Riddell, S.M. Chairman. (Sgd.) E. Eales, S. Rawle, Members of the Board.
