Between the 12th and 15th ultimo, from 61 Victoria Street, the property of PETER ANICH, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold keyless hunting-watch, plain case, Roman numerals; and a double 9 ct. gold fetter-and-three-ovals watch-chain with 9 ct. gold sovereign-ease and gold-quartz pendant with “ P.T.A.” thereon attached: total value, £l7 12s. Identifiable.
Auckland.—23rd “or 24th September last, from Wyoming Boardinghouse, Nelson Street, the property of JOHN POWE, Pohaka, a gentlemen’s navy-blue suit, raised seams and cuff bottoms on trousers, “ Dedwoody, Ohakune,” on tag ; £4 10s. in money; and a second-class railway ticket (AucklandOhakune) : total value, £ls. Suit identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Bill Dale, alias Borrowdale, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., medium build, fair complexion and hair. May be wearing the stolen clothing.
Auckland. —Ist instant, from the Takapuna Grammar School, the property of MARY MacDONALD and others, a cheque (recovered); -seven North Shore Transport Co.’s bus concession-tickets; a ladies’ envelope-shape crocodile-skin purse, three compartments, snap fastener; a ladies’ grey suede-leather sunshine purse with ivy-leaves embossed thereon ; a ladies’ small tan pigskin-leather purse, embossed, two compartments; several used Niue Island stamps ; and £l6 Us. 6d. in money: total value, £2O 6s. 7d. Pukekohe. 2nd ultimo, from a railway-carriage between Newmarket and Taupiri, the property of WILLIAM HENRY HAMILTON, Victoria Street, Avondale, a gentlemen’s openface English lever watch, white dial, dent in back case ; and a silver curb watch-chain, with oval-shape silver badge attached with greenstone centre and “ W.H.H.” engraved thereon : total value, £4. Hamilton. —l6th ultimo, from a motor-car, the property of the VERY REV. DEAN GRAHAM ROY BARNETT, Bridge Street, a light-fawn gabardine Lynx overcoat, “ G. R. Arapuni. —46th or 17th ultimo, from the hut of JAMES DOHERTY, £6 10s. in money; a silver curb watch-chain with silver pendant attached, gold centre with “ J.D.” thereon, “ W.R.G., Club Fours, 1915,” engraved on back ; and a gold locket with photo of man and woman inside : total value, £9 2s. 6d. Palmerston North, 24th October last, from a motor-car in George Street, the property of DOUGLAS JAMES RICKARD, 21 Summerhays Street, a Hawaiian steel guitar, veneered oak with white-pine top, two rings painted round sound-opening, in a brown American-cloth case ; and a guitartutor book : total value, £5 2s. 6d. Identifiable.
Palmerston North. 3rd ultimo, from Rangitikei Street, the property of ERIC ROBERT SCOTT, 300 Church Street, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel Cooksley bicycle, No. 81778, Cooksley transfer, upturned handles, no grips, 22 in. frame ; value, £3 10s. Identifiable.
Wellington. Between the Ist and 31st October last, from the dwelling of OSWALD JAMES MURPHY, Pahautanui, a small Ensignette camera in a leather case with green lining; value, £2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Henry Bruce, age about eighteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., farm hand, thin build, fair complexion and hair; usually wears a cravenette overcoat. Wellington. 6th October last, from the Dominion Farmers’ Institute, the property of ARTHUR LEIGH HUNT, 73 Kainui Road, a gentlemen’s double-breasted blue-grey overcoat, Raglan sleeves, large size, branded “ D.1.C., Wellington ” ; value, £6 10s. Identifiable.
Wellington.— October last, from the Town Hall, the property of JAMES HENRY PRICE, 54 Rintoul Street, a gentlemen’s dark-grey sac coat, “ Kirkcaldie and Stains ” on tag ; a pigskin folding-wallet, three compartments; a T. and G. Insurance policy, No. 2238537, in name of complainant ; and a Masonic diploma : total value, £4. Identifiable.
Wellington.— Between the 26th September last and the 11th October, from the Lambton railway-yards, the property of THE NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), four dozen roller bandages ; a dozen surgical needles; two hypodermic syringes ; six artery forceps; two scalpels ; two needle-holders ; and a quantity of morphia tablets, strychnine tablets, iodine, lysol, &c : total value, £lO. Not identifiable.
Wellington. —Between the 12th September last and the 26th October, from the Clyde Quay School, the property of SYBIL WILLIAMS, 39 Roxburgh Street, and DOROTHY CRAWFORD, 124 Austin Street, a ladies’ black oilskin raincoat with belt, brown lining, black cloth collar ; and a ladies’ light-wine-colour overcoat, scalloped back, two inverted pleats on each side, dark-brown squirrel-tail collar, no pockets on outside : total value, £6. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Woman (name unknown), age about thirty-five, thin build, pale complexion, dark hair; wearing a blue fuji dress, dark raincoat, and dark fur.
Christchurch— the night of the Ist instant the shop of JOHN WILLIAM TOWNSEND, 455 Ferry Road, Woolston, was broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : Five razors, tortoise-shell handles, “ Varsity, made in Germany,” on shank of blade, “ Hammer forged, electrically tempered ” on blade ; two brown leather tobacco-pouches, two dome fasteners, “ Cigpouch, patent No. 9796, made in England,” branded thereon; three dozen ladies’ hair-clasps; about fifty tobacco-pipes with nickel bands, “ The Trout ” branded on wood near shoulder; four razor-strops, one with darkblue moose-leather on one side, several cuts on each side ; and a quantity of Valet auto-strop safety blades, shampoo powders, tobacco, cigarettes, &c. : total value, £2B 13s. 3d. Identification doubtful.
Christchurch— On the night of the 27th October the Sydenham Post-office was broken into, and about eighteen letters addressed to the employees of the Sydenham Post-office stolen therefrom, the property of THE NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department). Not identifiable. One letter, addressed “A. G. Lake, Sydenham Post-office,” was returned through the post on 31st October last.
Pleasant Point—On the 28th ultimo, the shops of ROBERT KNOX and others were broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : A cheque for 145.; aLe Roy oilskin overcoat; a dozen gentlemen’s silk and woollen hose ; a pair of gentlemen’s brown-and-red saddle-tweed trousers; about four each of shirts, vest, and trousers ; three boxes cigars ; six Rushy pipes ; two D.B.L. pipes ; and £lO 12s. lOd. cash. Not identifiable. Dunedin. — ultimo, from a building in Bond Street, the property of WALTER DOUGLAS THOMPSON, Hereford Street, Christchurch, a Globite fibre suit-case ; a gentlemen’s light-grey suit, size 6, “ Schneideman, Dunedin,” on inside coat-pocket; a pair of gentlemen’s black patent-leather shoes, size 6 ; a suit of pink striped flannel pyjamas ; a brown leather collar-box ; a Weston Bros’, audit-book ; a Gillette safety-razor; three surgical knives ; a pair of small scissors with file ; hair brushes and comb ; and six sample boys’ and ladies’ belts, &c. : total value, £l6 18s. Gore. —3rd instant, from a motor-car, the property of WILLIAM PEIRSON, veterinary surgeon, Elizabeth Street, a dark Scotch tweed coachman’s double-breasted great-coat, lined with thick flannel ; and a gentlemen’s brown short raincoat, “ Redell’s, Dunedin,” on tag : total value, £7. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to employees of Wirth’s Circus.
Gore. 3rd instant, the property of JESSIE LYALL, Wylie’s Crossing, Mosgiel, a ladies’ brown leather handbag, star in circle on each side, containing a second-class return railway ticket, in-Invercargill; and a small black purse with 12s. in silver : total value, £1 9s. 6d. Bag and purse identifiable. Whilst watching a performance of Wirth’s Circus complainant’s bag was snatched from her. Suspicion is attached to Circus employees.
