Accused obtained a three-piece chesterfield suite in grey moquette, value £24 10s., from Charles Wilson Travis, upholsterer, 93 Karangape Road, by falsely representing that he had a contract to paint the Epsom tram-shed. There is another similar charge pending in regard to a three-piece Chesterfield suite in brown moquette. He may be identical with Herbert John Tobin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1926, page 495.)

He left Auckland on the 4th November, 1924, as a member of the crew of the s.s. “ Tremeadow.” Inquiry is at the instance of the Education Department.

Accused, who was employed by complainants in the Waipiata branch, received the above amount from J. and J. Arthur, Ltd., and others on terms requiring him to account for or pay the same to his employers, which he failed to do. He may be identical with Frederick Harold Warren referred to in Police Gazette, 1923, page 699. -9 2 9. Invercargill. On the 2nd or 3rd ultimo the premises of Wright, Stephenson, and Co., grain-merchants, Gore, were broken into and about three hundred bags containing grain cut open, and machinery-belts damaged, &c. A note hearing the following was left: “ This is a reprisal for employing the scab painter when labouring-men cannot get work; there will be smoke next time. Scabbing on the labourers is no good.” Any information regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Invercargill.
