Auckland. —31st May last, for theft of a watch, chain, and 20-franc piece (recovered), and a money-box containing 55., the property of Richard Thorpe, carpenter, 1 Orchard Street, Avondale, Daniel Torpp (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., contractor, medium build, fair complexion, clean-shaved ; well dressed in a dark suit. The recovered articles were pledged by a man of the description given. No warrant.

Auckland. 3oth ultimo, for theft of a pair of gentlemen’s field boots (recovered), value £1 ss. 6d., the property of William Langley Rowland, hoot-retailer, 58 Victoria Street West, Man (name unknown), age about forty, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair; coarse appearance. Accused, who was caught in the act of stealing the boots from the shop-door, succeeded in escaping, leaving his coat in complainant’s hands. The coat is of brown tweed with faint stripes, and contained a razor, a tooth-brush, a pocket-knife, a razor-strop, a shaving-brush, a broken comb, a piece of broken mirror, a piece of soap, a bow-tie, a long tie, and a broken set of ten artificial teeth, some of which are gold. Auckland. —31st May last, on warrant for theft of £5, the property of Jane Chapman Williamson, farmer, Roseneath, Waimauku, North Auckland, William Taylor, age forty-six, height about 5 ft. 4 in., seaman, native of England, good build, fair complexion, wavy brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, Japanese devil on right forearm, eagle on left forearm ; sometimes wears glasses.
