PERSONS WANTED.

Maungatuboto.— 2lst ultimo, on warrant for theft of £22 7s. 6d., the property of the Otamatea County Council, Elwayn Laurence Hargraves, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., farmer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, (JL,

brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved, scar under right arm and on abdomen, artificial upper teeth (one in front and two at side being broken) ; dressed in a blue serge suit; erect gait. Accused, who was employed as dog-tax collector, received the above amount and failed to account for it to his employers. There are other charges pending. Ryan (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, slight build, pale dark complexion and hair; dressed in a dark suit, soft fawn felt hat, and heavy dark overcoat; stooping slovenly gait. Accused obtained goods, value £1 19s. Bd., and £7 cash from Horace Charles Fair, gentlemen’s outfitter, St. Kevins Arcade, Newton, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO on the Bank of Australasia, Te Kuiti, No. A 189689. He promised to call later for the remainder of the money, but failed to do so. The cheque was one of four stolen from the dwelling of Emily Mason, Te Kuiti; and he may be identical with A. Ryan, referred to in Police Gazette,#l927, pagq.4sß. , /X/ t/py<q7, 7 r C y Auckland. —lst instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of Muriel Amelia Stirling in the care of the Education Department, James Edward Francis Brayshaw, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 11^-in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, birthmark on left thigh. Arrears to 28th ultimo, £25 10s. (See Police Gazette, 1926, page 707.)

Auckland. —31st May last, for theft of a watch, chain, and 20-franc piece (recovered), and a money-box containing 55., the property of Richard Thorpe, carpenter, 1 Orchard Street, Avondale, Daniel Torpp (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., contractor, medium build, fair complexion, clean-shaved ; well dressed in a dark suit. The recovered articles were pledged by a man of the description given. No warrant.

Auckland. 3oth ultimo, for theft of a pair of gentlemen’s field boots (recovered), value £1 ss. 6d., the property of William Langley Rowland, hoot-retailer, 58 Victoria Street West, Man (name unknown), age about forty, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair; coarse appearance. Accused, who was caught in the act of stealing the boots from the shop-door, succeeded in escaping, leaving his coat in complainant’s hands. The coat is of brown tweed with faint stripes, and contained a razor, a tooth-brush, a pocket-knife, a razor-strop, a shaving-brush, a broken comb, a piece of broken mirror, a piece of soap, a bow-tie, a long tie, and a broken set of ten artificial teeth, some of which are gold. No warrant.

Auckland. —31st May last, on warrant for theft of £5, the property of Jane Chapman Williamson, farmer, Roseneath, Waimauku, North Auckland, William Taylor, age forty-six, height about 5 ft. 4 in., seaman, native of England, good build, fair complexion, wavy brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, Japanese devil on right forearm, eagle on left forearm ; sometimes wears glasses. Complainant gave accused, who was employed by her, authority to pawn some of her jewellery. Auckland. —27th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Grgo Mihaljevich, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of Dalmatia, stout build, sallow complexion, black hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a light-grey suit and cap. Complainant, Moiria Milina, Onehunga. —l7th ultimo, for obscene exposure, Man (name unknown), age about fifty, height about 6 ft., good build, black moustache ; wearing a dark overcoat and trilby hat. Whilst in Campbell Road accused obscenely exposed himself within the view of Arthur Burchall, schoolboy. No warrant.

Waihi. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Ella Florence Margaret Terry, and children, William Harold Terry, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., miner, native of. Arrears computed to 25th March last.

Hamilton. ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £ll fine and costs for being drunk in charge of a motor-lorry, Claude James Contis, age thirty-five, height 6 ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes. - (See Police Gazette, 1927, page 413.) Andersen ” or “ Andraesen ” and woman holding flag on one arm ; profusely tattooed ; usually dressed in a blue suit, grey felt hat, and blue overcoat; fond of drink; speaks broken English. Accused was employed as cook at complainant’s sawmill. He forged the signature A. P. Hastings. —On or about the 27th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £7, the property of George Thornton, William Robert Moffatt, age thirty - three, height 5 ft. 11l in., butcher, native of New Zealand, slight build, pale complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, scar over left eye and above left knee, tip of left thumb missing ; dressed in brown trousers, navy-blue coat, and fawn cap. The photograph of Henry James Godfrey Smith, referred to in Photographs, 1926, page 93, has been identified as that of accused.

Pahiatua. — 13 th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for six weeks in default of paying £ll Is. fine and costs for being drunk in charge of a motor-car, William Patrick McNamara, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., insurance agent, native of Ireland, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, full face ; usually dressed in a dark suit and soft felt hat (sometimes wears knickerbockers). He is also wanted on another warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 15s. fine and costs for a breach of the Motor-vehicles Act, 1924, and there is also a warrant of distress for £7 Is. to be executed upon his effects.
