PROPERTY STOLEN.
Auckland. Between the 30th ultimo and the 2nd instant the shop of W. and J. PEET, 70 Karangahape Bead, was broken into and the following stolen therefrom : Five grocer’s aprons, white linen, marked “ W.P.” or “ R.P.”; stamps value £1 10s. ; and a quantity of tobacco, cigarettes, &c. : total value, £42 10s. 6d. Aprons only identifiable.
Auckland. —On the 16th or 17th ultimo the premises of EDWIN CHARLES MARTIN, Panmure Road, Ellerslie, were broken into and the following stolen therefrom : A rolled-gold open-face Waltham watch, No. 17512920, “ 6 ” over “ 7896 ” inside back case, screw cases; five brown leather and felt tobacco-pouches, two with silver shields on front; two Bengal razors and one Aevos razor; two razorhones ; and a quantity of tobacco and cigarettes : total value, £lO 15s. Identifiable except tobacco and cigarettes.
Auckland. Between the 23rd and 26th ultimo the shop of REUBEN JAFFE, 344 Queen Street, was broken into and the following stolen therefrom: A gentlemen’s grey worsted suit, size 5-J or 6, with small square pattern, quarter raised seam on trousers ; a pair of grey worsted trousers, with “R. Jaffe, Auckland,” on buttons ; a pair of blue serge trousers and vest, size 6, “ R. Jaffe, Auckland,” on buttons ; a pair of blue serge trousers, with “ R. Jaffe, Auckland,” on buttons ; a pair of blue serge trousers and vest, belt tunnels and loops round waist; brown fibre box, with two shelves inside and strap round lid ; about 40 yards grey Italian lining ; a quantity of -grey, blue, and light-grey lining ; about twenty-five heavy woollen overcoats, fawn, blue nap, and dark-grey, “ R. Jaffe, Auckland,” on patch under tab ; about thirty-six pairs trousers, mostly fawn, with belt-loop round waist; and about six gentlemen’s fawn and grey sports coats, with strap at back: total value, £lB3 ss. Mostly identifiable.
Auckland. Between the 19th and 21st ultimo, from 19 Servia Street, the property of ANNIE POULSON, 100 Shack] Road, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with three pearls in straight claw setting ; and a ladies’ 15 ct. double gold chain, with oval links and swivel in centre with sovereign attached : total value, £9 2s. Identifiable.
Auckland. ALBERT JAMES RYCROFT’S dwelling broken into : The ladies’ apricot figured-silk frock has been recovered by the Auckland police. It was sold to a secondhand dealer by J. Anderson (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, fair complexion and hair; dressed in a worsted pepper-and-salt suit. Onehunga.Between the 14th and 19tn ultimo the Drill Shed in Queen Street was broken into and the following stolen therefrom, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department) pair of prismatic binoculars, No. 9809, 2416, or 60293, arrow stamped thereon and gilded over, in a light-brown leather case stamped No. 3 ; a Lee-Enfield rifle, maker’s number 41602, Mark ILL-star;
and five ’ thousand rounds -22 rim-fire * ammunition : total value, £l9 10s. Identifiable ammunition . $/ $1 'i' Arapuni.—l3th or 14th ultimo, the property of JAMES TELFER, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel bicycle, 22 in. frame, straight handles, one celluloid and one rubber grip, Skeates and White makers ; value, £5. Identifiable.
Wanganui.—24th ultimo, from 107 Bell Street, the property of WILLIAM HENRY MARSHALL and FREDERICK CYRIL PROUD, a 9 ct. gold band ring with “ E.M.” engraved thereon ; a ring set with three large rubies and small diamonds in straight setting ; a pendant set with a large amethyst in centre and leaves set with pearls ; a leather kit-bag, brown canvas lining, “ Gowling, Royal Arcade, Sydney,” inside ; a pair of blue serge herring-bone pattern trousers, size 5, buttons inside band, loops for belt, strap and buckle on each side ; a blue silk shirt, with “ Anthony Hordern, Sydney,” on tab ; a white silk shirt with blue stripes; a cream silk sports shirt ;• two Tobralco shirts ; a white pullover Cardigan with three buttons on front; a pair of white cotton and wool underpants ; several handkerchiefs ; and £1 2s. (id. in money : total value, £3O 10s. 6d. Mostly identifiable, except money. Suspicion is attached to David Albert GOOdStt, referred to in Police Gazette, 1926, page 232, and Photographs, 1924, page 66. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.
Masterton. —Between the 21st and 24th January last, from a show-case in the shop of GEORGE DALLAS, Queen Street, a silver hunting English lever watch, No. 559859, -wind, dial chipped near second-hand ; value, £2 10s. Identifiable.
Wellington. —2Bth March last, from a shop in Lambton Quay, the property of ELLEN KATE GREEN, a ladies’ brown leather hand-bag, nickel clasp-fastener, leather handle, three compartments, light-brown lining ; a Conway fountain pen with “ E.K.G.” on band ; £3O 3s. 6d. in money ; and a cheque for £24, No. 283496, on the Commercial Bank of Australia, dated 25th March, 1927, and signed “ W. R. Kenner.” Identifiable except money.
Wellington. — llth or 12th ultimo, from 90 The Terrace, the property of DORIS MAREN FISHER, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold keyless wristlet watch, silver dial, Roman numerals, “ D.M.P. 11.3.17 ” engraved on back case ; £1 in money, and several ladies’ fancy linen handkerchiefs : total value, £8 ss. Watch only identifiable.
Wellington. —4Bth March last, from the Y.W.C.A. Hostel, Boulcott Street, the property of FLORA ALICE MARY RICHARDSON, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with seven diamonds in platinum claw setting, ring has been cut; value, £lB. Identifiable.
Wellington. 23rd February last, from 244 Oriental Parade, the property of MARJORIE MARY SEARES, a ladies’ gold wristlet watch, oval or oblong shape, Roman numerals, black corded wristlet with gold clip attached; value, £l2. Identifiable.
Wellington.— Between the 3rd and 28th March last the premises of JAMES FREW, Riddiford Street, were broken into and the following stolen therefrom : An acetone welding blow-pipe with brass tubing, valves, and tip, “ No. A. 321 ” on pipe ; and two brass regulators, about 2 in. in diameter, with white dials, No. 82210 and 8.81287 respectively : total value, £lB 13s. 6d. Identifiable.
Wellington. 2nd ultimo, from a motor-car in Dixon Street, the property of WILLIAM BURGESS, motor salesman, 113 Hamilton Road, Hataitai, a gentlemen’s Lynx overcoat, slate colour, double-breasted, half-belt at back, pleat from belt to bottom ; value, £9 10s. Identifiable.
Wellington. 27th March last, from the band-room of the Salvation Army Citadel, Vivian Street, the property of EVAN THOMAS JONES, machinist, 132 Onepu Road, Lyall Bay, a gentlemen’s overcoat, dark-grey nap cloth, black velvet collar, half-belt at back ; value, £B. Identifiable.
Wellington. — On the 14th January, from outside 224 Vivian Street, the property of RAYMOND YOUNG, schoolboy, 224 Vivian Street, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled bicycle, No. 79259, 22 in. frame, down-turned handles, Mansfield saddle, free wheel, back-pedalling brake, carrier and reflector on rear; value, £3. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Victor Patterson, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., native of New Zealand, labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair; believed to be making for Putaruru; frequents hotels and dance halls.
Wellington. Between the Ist and 23rd ultimo, from his house at Hirau Street, Muritai, the property of HUGH WILLIAM POWELL, labourer, Hirau Street, Muritai, a -22 calibre single-shot Remington pea rifle, Model G, No. 5237312; value, £l. Identifiable.
Wellington. —On the 18th ultimo the dwelling of ARTHUR JOHN PERCIVAL BRITTAIN, chemist, 9 Claremont Grove, was broken into and the following stolen therefrom : A dark-fawn leather purse, 8 in. by 6 in., top folding over and fastens with gilt metal clasp, containing a small silver-cased pencil, note-book, small mirror, sundry papers, eight £1 notes, and 7s. in silver ; total value, £lO 7s. Identifiable except money.
Christchurch. WILLIAM STANLEY BROWN, Snowdon Station, Coalgate, a gentlemen’s brown tweed overcoat, and a pair of black patent-leather shoes, size 8 ; total value, £7 12s. 6d. Overcoat only identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Jack Leach, age about twenty-one, height 6 ft., labourer and gardener, medium build, fresh complexion, dark bushy hair. Suspect borrowed the overcoat, and promised to leave it at an address in Christchurch, but failed to do so.
Christchurch. — 10th March last, from Cashel Street, the property of R. W. ENGLAND AND SONS, 185 Tuam Street, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel Tourist bicycle, No. 10565, flat handles, Dunlop tire on back wheel; value, £6. Identifiable.
Christchurch. 9th March last, from Hereford Street, the property of K. HOPAGE FISHER, 94 Hereford Street, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel Anglo-N.Z. Co. bicycle, No. 2915, upturned handles, John Bull tires ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

On the Ist March last the dwelling of PERCY WILLIAMS, 12 Ely Street, was broken into and the following stolen therefrom : A gold-mounted fountain pen, a gentlemen’s gold band ring set with a red stone, a ladies’ plain band ring, several curio coins, and £5 in money ; total value, £7. Identifiable except money.
Christchurch. l9th March last, from the Wharf Hotel, Woolston, the property of ISABEL POTTON, a gold oval cameo brooch with woman’s head thereon; a plain gold bangle with lock and chain attached; two smelling-salt bottles, one green glass and one plain glass, with silver stopper; a round blue-enamelled box with gilt lining ; a black ebony hair brush and comb ; and a ladies’ black crochet silk handbag, &c. : total value, £9 12s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to S. Darrat), age about twenty height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, dark hair and complexion ; wearing a dark suit and light-felt hat: and Ernest Edward Harper, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, Native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, darkbrown hair, brown eyes, scar on left side of nose, two scars on upper lip, thick lower lip; usually dressed in a blue suit and light-felt hat.
