Unidentified Body.
PoA Chalmers. —On the 16th instant the decomposed body of a tVSan (name unknown) was found in a stream near the Mihiwaka Railway-station. Description : Age about sixty, height 5 ft. 10 in., strong build, grey hair, scar about 3 in. long on left forearm ; dressed in a dark-blue cotton shirt with white and yellow stripes, grey woollen singlet, -grey trousers with turned-up bottoms, grey woollen ribbed underpants, and black laceup half-soled boots with plain fronts, Phillips rubbers on heels, “ The Officers’ boot,
Ssesar, wear guaranteed, size 8,” branded inside. The following articles were found alongside the body : A dark-tweed overcoat, vent in back, two outside pockets with flaps and two inside pockets, black lining ; a dark-grey coat and vest with “ H.B. Clothing Factory, New Zealand,” on tag ; a grey felt hat with bound edges and black band, “ Globe Brand ” inside crown, “ Claranton ” on inside band ; two white linen handkerchiefs, one with blue, green, and black borders ; a twobladed pocket-knife with white bone handle ; a pair of steelrimmed spectacles in red case with “ W. Littlejohn and Son, Opticians, Wellington,” on it a small key on steel chain; a book entitled “ The Man who Wrought,” by Ridgwell Cullum ; a collar-pin ; two small leather straps ; and four pennies. Any information regarding the identity of deceased is to be communicated to the Superintendent of Police, Dunedin.
