October last, for false pretences, Stanley Hoffman, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., tailor, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, scar and anchor on left forearm, scar on right upper arm, scar between eyes and on back of neck ; dressed in a dark navy-blue serge suit and light-fawn soft felt hat; peculiar accent. Accused obtained board and lodging, value 10s. 6d. from Cora Alice Walden, boardinghouse-keeper, Pokeno, by falsely representing that he was a lineman employed by the Post and Telegraph Department, He is also suspected of stealing £2 from James Keogh, motor-driver, with whom he shared a room. Christchurch. —16th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Sarah Humphrey, is the mother, William John Leslie Arnold Hampton, age thirty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., fitter, native of England, medium build, dark complexon, fair hair going bald, blue eyes, scar on back of head ; usually dressed in a brown suit.
