PERSONS WANTED.

Whangarei. — lsth December last, on warrant of commitment to Whangarei Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for failing to render personal service under the Defence Act, William Boxer, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, Maori, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; usually dressed in a dark suit and cap. 2/- 4- 24 .

Auckland. — Ist instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Ada Cashford, 12 Wynyard Street, Devonport, Henry Cashford, age forty, height 5 ft. 8£ in., motor-driver, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved. May be accompanied by Isabella Hargreaves, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, snub-nose, with mole on tip.

Auckland. —9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Margaret Herbert, 245 Queen Street, Onehunga, Victor Charles Herbert, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 7^- in., grocer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; usually well dressed in a dark suit. Auckland. —Ist ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £lO Is. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, Clarence Hoyte, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in a grey suit and black hat. Auckland. —26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Mary Kania, and two children, 41 Khyber Pass Road, Karl Adolf Georg Kurt Kania, age fifty-one, height about 5 ft. 5 in., wood-carver, native of Germany, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair turning grey, dark eyes, portion of left thumb and forefinger missing ; dressed in a dark suit and grey overcoat ; fond of drink„ . Auckland. 2nd instant, for committing rape on Florence Christina May Halcrow (age sixteen and a half), 492 Broadway, Man (name unknown), age about twenty height about 5 ft. 3 in., medium build, dark complexion, harsh voice : dressed in a dark suit and black-felt hat. Accused took hold of complainant in Broadway, Newmarket, about 11 p.m. oh above date and dragged her behind a house, where he committed the offence. No warrant.

Tauranga. —3rd instant, on warrant in order that he may be adjudged the father of the illegitimate child of Violet Taki, George Cunliffe, age forty-six, height oft. 6 in., carpenter and farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on head, Tipper teeth artificial. Napier.— instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Gladys Ivy Mooney, and three children, Port Ahuriri, Joseph Christopher Mooney, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 9£ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, good build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, blue eyes, scar on right leg and on left shin, anchor and dot on left arm, heart on right arm ; fond of drink. Napier. l2th January last, on warrant for forgery and uttering, A. J. Aynesworth, age twenty -four, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, grey eyes, scar on left ring-finger ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey hat; smart appearance. Accused forged the name “ William Wyllie ”to a cheque for £8 175., and uttered it to Herbert Colbert, licensee, Royal Hotel, in payment for board, receiving £7 2s. change. The photograph of Sydney Joyce Hall, alias Joise Hall, referred to in Police Gazette, 1926, page 84, and Photographs, I^2 identifiers that of offender.

Napier.— l7th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, John Barron Neave, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., supposed veterinary surgeon, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light- - brown hair, clean - shaved ; dressed in a grey-tweed suit and grey-felt hat turned up at brim. Accused obtained goods and £5 17s. 3d. change from Peter Annan, licensee, Napier Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £6. Other charges pending. Imb f r l -

Palmerston North. —23rd November last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Annie Brown, and children, South Street, John Robert Brown, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., auctioneer and flax-worker, native of New Zealand, stout build, ruddy complexion, grey hair and eyes, decayed teeth, “ R. 8.” on left forearm ; usually dressed in a grey suit and grey cap ; slightly stooped ; fond of drink. Palmerston North. —llth instant, on warrant for false pretences, A. E. Law (name probably fictitious), age about forty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair, light-blue eyes, clean-shaved, wide spaces between teeth ; dressed in a blue suit and heavy grey overcoat ; talkative. Accused obtained £lO from James Watson, Cafe-de-Paris Hotel, by falsely representing that he would employ him at bushfelling at Tapaki Station, Oringi, and that he had left his cheque-book in his luggage.

Wellington. —l2th November last, on warrant for using obscene language in Molesworth Street, T. Fletcher, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 2 in., fireman, native of Scotland, fair complexion and hair; usually dressed in a blue suit and cap. He was served with a summons, but failed to appear. 3-V- '

Nelson. 27th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Richard Burwood, alias Edwards (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, tanned complexion, dark hair; dressed in a blue-serge suit, slatecoloured hat with black band, white collar and bow tie, tan shoes, and fawn socks with blue lines ; plausible manner. Accused obtained from Charles Alexander Henderson, licensee, Commercial Hotel, the sum of £lO by means of a valueless cheque for that amount signed W. J. Stead.”

Christchurch.— 22nd ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Paparua Prison for one month in default of paying £6 fine and costs on each for failing to render personal service under the Defence Act, Frederick James Parry, age twenty - one, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes. j *

Timaru.—24th or 25th ultimo, on warrant for theft of two blankets, a pair of boots, and a suit of clothes, &c. (recovered) ; an army holdall, containing a Kiltie razor, shaving - brush, hair - brush, comb, &c. total value, £ls, identifiable, the property of James Todd, Sophia Street, B. Condon (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 11 in., strong build, ruddy complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, dark -felt hat turned down, and dark shirt and tie. The description is that of a man who sold portion of the stolen property to a secondhand dealer. His correct name is supposed to be George Hill.

Dunedin.—sth instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Alexandrina Laura Neilson, 39 MacLaggan Street, Walter Neilson, age twenty-two, height. 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair brushed back, blue eyes, tombstone, “ In memory of Father,” Scotch thistle, and “ Scotland for ever ” on arms ; dressed in a light-grey suit, light cap, and tan shoes ; fond of drink. /SPLITS.

Dunedin. 2nd instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of paying £l3 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Hazel Jean Yeoman is the mother, John Percival Matheson, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, light-blue eyes ; usually dressed in a grey or navy-blue suit and cap. Arrears computed to 30th November last.

Outram. —12th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Rosanna Jackson, James Jackson, age sixty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, round features, fair moustache, slow, quiet speech; usually dressed in a greytweed suit and soft felt hat. Gore. 9th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Annie Dodds, Otamita, is the mother, Thomas Darrie, age about forty, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved, scar below left knee ; walks with a slight limp.

Winton. —On or about the 2nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a chain - drive buttar from a McCormack binder, value £lO, identification doubtful, the property of John O’Shannessey, farmer, East Limehills, William McDonald, age about forty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., binder mechanic and labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, dark-brown eyes ; dressed in a dark suit and dark-brown-felt hat; has the appearance of a quarter-caste Maori. Accused was interviewed by the Invercargill police on the 23rd ultimo and admitted removing the buttar, which he promised to return, but has failed to do so.
