Auckland. 3oth May last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £3l arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Arthur Thomas, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and seaman, native of England, thin build, pale complexion, brown hair, pale-blue eyes ; dressed in a blueserge suit and grey cap.

Auckland. —loth November last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2O l Is. 6d. fine and costs for theft, Desmond George Chandler, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer and tinsmith, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair, blue eyes, scar on left palm. He is also wanted on another warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £3 12s. fine and costs for failing to attend drill. Taumarunui. —16th July last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 ss. fine and costs for drunkenness, Leslie Thompson, age twenty height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and mill hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a light-grey suit, brown cap, blue fancy socks, and fawn rainproof overcoat. j / $ j

Napier.— -Between the 18th and 26th August last, on warrant for theft of £2O 195., the property of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, Francis ’ William Condon, age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., canvasser, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue large eyes, full face ; usually dressed in a grey or dark suit and grey-felt hat; erect gait. Accused, who was employed as canvasser for the above company, received from various persons the above amount and failed to account for it to his employers. He may assume the name Martin, and may be accompanied by his wife (age about twenty-eight, tall, dark complexion, Jewish appearance) and child (age nine)./, / rvlft/’TM

Wanganui. —27th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Paul Julian Paitry, alias Joe Fraser, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., wharf labourer and fisherman, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue large eyes ; usually dressed in a blue suit. Wellington. —l9th ultimo, for false pretences, Mrs. Brodie, age about forty-two, height 5 ft. in., married, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair, blue or grey eyes, one gold tooth or more in front of upper set; well dressed in a brown or fawn costume ; deep voice, and plausible. Accused obtained a scrimp woollen costume, a toque hat, and a pair of gloves, value £8 10s., from James Smith and Co., Cuba Street, by falsely representing herself to be Mrs. Brodie, White’s Line, Lower Hutt. She is believed to Ice identical with Margaret Durkin, alias Duncan, referred to in Police Gazette, 1921, page 589, with Miss Twomey, referred to in Police Gazette, 1924, page 432, and with Mrs. Robb, referred to in Police Gazette, 1924, page 477. On or aboift the 4th ultimo, on warrant for. theft of an Underwood typewriter (recovered), value £IJ, the property of Walter Hughes, accountant, Boulcott Street, William James Williamson, age twenty height 5 ft. 9 in., canvasser, native of New Zealand, good build, fresh complexion, sandy hair, blue or grey eyes, slightly bow-legged ; American coat-of-arms on left upper arm, artillery-badge on left forearm ; clasped hands, “ W.J.W.,” anchor, and flags on right forearm ; dressed in a blue-serge suit and light-brown-felt hat. Accused, who was employed as canvasser for the La Fayette Portrait Company, stole the typewriter from the office and pawned it for £6. There are other charges pending. Ilf in., labourer, native of Scotland, slight build, sallow complexion, hair turning grey, blue eyes, broken nose ; well spoken. Christchurch. —7th instant, on order of committal to an industrial school, Harry Hills, age sixteen, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes ; dressed in knickerbockers and grey coat and cap. He was ordered to come up for sentence on the 7th instant on two charges of false pretences, but he failed to appear, and was committed to the Boys’ Probation Home, Christchurch. Christchurch. —7th August last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £5, the property of Harold Dalby Coates, 72 Fitzgerald Street, St: Albans, Robert Henry Edgeworth, alias Alexander Saunders, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, florid complexion, grey hair, blue eyes ; mermaid, two women’s heads, bird, star, and bracelet on right forearm ; woman’s head, &c., on left forearm ; usually dressed in a grey suit and soft-felt hat; slovenly appearance ; fond of drink. Accused stole the bicycle from Cashel Street and sold it to George Humphreys for £1 10s. (See Police Gazette, 1924, page 459, and Photographs, 1920, page 14.)
