Sydney (New South Wales). —On two warrants for forging at Sydney, on the 27th ultimo and the sth instant, the signatures “ W. Lister ” and “ W. 0. C. Bligh ” to cheques for £215 and £147 respectively, Clive Napier Curling, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., thin build, fair complexion, fair wavy hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved; dressed in blueserge trousers, grey coat and vest, and grey-felt hat; smart appearance. He was arrested for the offences and bailed, but failed to appear on 7th instant at the Central Police Court, Sydney. He is a clever forger, and his system is to select the signature of a person with whom he has done business, forge it to an order for a cheque-book, and request in the same order a statement of the account of the person whose signature he forged. After obtaining these from the bank he forges a cheque for about half the amount to the person’s credit and utters it to the bank. If located, an urgent communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 24/235.)
