PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —18th May last, for theft from the person of Alexander Stewart, 20 Graham Street, of a silver double-curb double watch-chain, value £l, Man (name unknown) age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in a grey suit. At the corner of Federal and Victoria Streets accused snatched the watchchain from complainant’s vest and ran away. No warrant.

Auckland.— lsth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ellen Hamblin, Selwyn Road, Epsom, Sidney Edward Hamblin, age thirty-five, height 6 ft., driver and farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, cleajt-shayecL; usually dressed in a grey suit and dark-felt hat'x Arrears to 18th May last, £B.

Auckland. l3th March last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Katherine Whitcombe is the mother, Martin Davis, age forty-five, height 6 ft., native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair turning grey; frequents race meetings. Arrears to 11th February last, £l9 Is.

Auckland. —25th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Maria Boric is the mother, Frederick Joseph Pritchard, age forty-one, height 5 ft.-7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand,- medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, scar on chin and on left side /, of face, clasped hands and ship on hrfTVorearmY dressed in a dark shabby suit. Auckland. —10th March last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £5 fine and costs for assault, Reginald Dominic Mclnerney, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 5 in., porter, native of Australia,, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, crossed hands, flags, and “ Australia ” on right forearm. Auckland. — lst ultimo, for theft from the person of William Wallace, 81 Alexander Street, Two Men (names unknown)—(l) Age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., medium build, dark hair and complexion, black moustache, dressed in a dark suit; and (2) age about thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved, dressed in a grey suit. In Baker Street about 7.45 p.m. complainant’s wallet containing £1 was taken from him by the men described. He recovered the money. No warrant.

Auckland. 26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Edith Glenham, William Montague Glenham, age thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and accountant, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, right elbow stiff; usually well dressed in a brown suit and boots and grey-felt hat. Auckland. —2Bth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for six months in default of paying £39 13s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Jessie Garrick, Kiwitaki, is the mother, Percy William Eden, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. in., furniture-dealer, native of New Zealand, slight build, pale complexion, short brown hair, cleanshaved. Cambridge. —Bth December last, on warrant for theft of twelve rabbit-traps and an adze (recovered), value £1 155., the property of Robert Martin Laud, farmer, Taotaoroa, James Downey, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and rabbiter, native of England, slight build, sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, hazel eyes/; usually dressed in a grey-tweed suit and grey hap. Tauranga. —2oth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Ronald Olney, age about eighteen, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair, small eyes ; dressed in a dark-blue suit, fawn overcoat, and brown-felt hat. Accused obtained goods, value, 4s. 10d., from Frederick Hamilton Hammond, grocer and baker, Willow Street, by falsely representing that they were for Peter Thomas Keam. He is also suspected of stealing an aged half-draught bay mare, fifteen hands, white blaze on face, left hind foot white, broken knees, value £2O, the property of Francis William Keam/ Welcome Bay.

Opunake. — l6th April last, on three warrants of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for two months, two months, and forty-eight hours in default of paying £l7 18s. fines and costs for obscene language, threatening behaviour, and drunkenness (£lO 155., £5 18s., and £1 ss. fines and costs respectively), John Tutu, age twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and farmer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; usually dressed in a grey suit and light-felt hat; a half-caste Maoris / / f/py.

Tajhape. — llth April last, on warrant of commitment to Taihape Lock-up for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 3s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Patrick Carroll, alias Caron, alias Cahill, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes ; dressed in a blue-serge suit and black-felt hat. Feilding. — During March last, on warrant for false pre tences, Walter Mercer, age about fifty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., printer, slight build, pale complexion, grey hair and moustache, large growth on throat, bad feet, and always uses a walking-stick ; dressed iiy a grey suit and fawn overcoat; wizened appearance. Leonard Kearns, storekeeper, 66 Kimbolton Road, by falsely representing that he was collecting advertisements for menucards for use in hotel dining-rooms. Perry, alias Montague Henry Pennyeuick, alias Pennycuik, referred to in Police Gazette, 1923, pages 232, 285, and 367, and Photographs, 1921, page 83. Accused, who stayed at the Commercial Hotel from 30th ultimo to 3rd instant, obtained board, value £2 6s. 6dL, and £3 3s. 6d. cash from John Edwin Svensen, licensee, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 10s. on (the /Bank of New South Wales, Wellington. / \ v/ cf '

Wellington. About the 29th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £175, the property of David White, clerk, 8 College Street, George Bolton, alias Bentjfiy, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 4 in., railway porter, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, scar on left forearm, ship on right forearm ; dressed in a blue suit, black boots, and hat (see Police Gazette, 1922, page 627) : and David Freeman, alias Freedman, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., cabinetmaker and railway porter, native of England, slight build, fair complexion, hair, and moustache, grey eyes, scar on left groin ; dressed in a brown suit and dark-brown hat (see Police Gazette, 1921, page 758). Accused, who opened a business as dry-cleaners at 71 Courtenay Place, induced complainant to take a third share, and he deposited in the bank £2OO to be used in the business. He was leaving the city for a few days, and left with his partners three blank cheques, which he signed on the understanding that they were to be used to pay small accounts. Whilst he was away accused drew from the bank £175 and disappeared. They may endeavour to leave this, Dominion., . €nn 7/5 750 .. / 4/vA^T

Wellington. —Between the 4th and 23rd January last, on warrant for theft as an officer/of the New Zealand Government (Repatriation Department), of £l9 19s. 3d., George Telford, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 4 in., clerk and storeman, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair going bald, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a blue suit and felt hat. Accused, who was employed in the Repatriation Department, received £l9 19s. 3d. as repayments on furniture loans and failed’ to account for the money. He left the Government service on 31st January last. There are other charges pending.

Mount Cook. —About Ist May last, that a summons for failing to maintain his children, inmates of a receiving home, may be served upon him, Thomas or Thomas John Ryan, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Ireland, thin build, grey hair going bald, grey eyes, grev short moustache - •’ tache - vmj v ;

Christchurch. 24th January last, on four warrants of commitment to Paparua Prison for one month and twentyone days in default of paying £l4 10s. 6d. fines and costs for breaches of the Legislature Act, Peter Callaghan, age thirtyone, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Scotland, slight build, freckled complexion, red hair, blue eyes, scar on right cheek-bone, left ribs broken, chest deformed.

Christchurch. 6th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Maud Adams, John Joseph Adams, age fifty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, grey eyes, scald-sear on left temple and cheek; talkative, and fond of drink.
