INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney (New South Wales). —A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Wesley Lockhart Whelton, charged with deserting his wife, Jessie Whetton, 79 Burren Street, Erskinville. Description : Age forty-four, height about 5 ft. 6 in., marine engineer, medium build, brown hair, blue eyes, cleanshaved ; may have scar or other facial disfigurement on one cheek ; an ex-soldier of an English or Canadian regiment, He may assume the names Jamieson, Wesley, Lockhart, or Thomas, and may be accompanied by Mrs. Doris Jamieson. If located, communicate with Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 23/161.)
Sydney (New South Wales). — During the night of the 28th ultimo the Parcels Post-office in Railway Square was broken into, and the following stolen from mail-bags : A ladies’
platinum nine-stone diamond ring, three large diamonds in centre, with three very small diamonds on either side, claw setting, “ M. 6240,” “ R.M/M/R,” and “ 1127 x 39 ” scratched inside, “ K.E/-/-” may also be scratched inside ; two buttonshaped pearls, one which is irregularly shaped weighs 19-48 gr., the other is more evenly shaped and weighs 12-88 gr. ; 20 oz. of 22 ct. gold in granules and nuggets ; and 3 dwt. 6 gr. of platinum wire ; and a cluster-pendant set with a blue sapphire and thirty-nine diamonds: total value, £515 12s. 4d. Any information regarding this matter is to be communicated to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 23/630.)
