Auckland. —2sth instant, for escaping from custody, James Williams, alias James Charles Hayes, - alias Charles Holmes, alias Oscar Holmes, alias Patrick Montgomery, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and clerk medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair going bald, grey eyes, scar on left forefinger. On the sth instant, at Wellington, he was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for theft from the person and escaped

from a lavatory-window on the Main Trunk train in the vicinity of Newmarket, when being escorted to Auckland Prison. He is a dangerous criminal, and will probably endeavour to leave this Dominion. The clocks were stolen from Curran Street School, Ponsonby, and four were recovered from pawnshops and second-hand shops. No warrant.

Thames. —12th ult.mo, for failing to register his revolver, Ovie Thomas, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Sicily, strong build, dark complexion, grey hair, brown eyes ; dressed in a brownish suit.

Fleck ” on it ; a fountain pen ; a Waterman fountain pen ; three 9 ct. gold signet-rings ; and a cheque-book on the Commercial Bank of Australia, containing fourteen blank cheques, Nos. 286787 to 286800 (two recovered); total value, £6; identifiable; H. H. Dwyer, alias C. G. Dwyer, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, sallow complexion ; dressed in a brown suit; slovenly appearance. Accused forged the names C. G. Dwyer and H. H. Dwyer to the recovered cheques (Nos. 286787 and 288788) for - £5 each, and uttered them to Miss Cooper, florist, Lambton Quay, and Miss Poole, Manners Street, respectively. A sharp look-out is to be kept for this offender, as some of the other stolen cheques may be forged. No warrant.

Mount Cook. —20th instant, for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Eileen Thelma Gerity, 29 Rata Road, is the mother, Charles Valentine Pegren, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., carpenter, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, broad nose, large ears, small scar on left cheek ; usually dressed in a dark suit and felt hat.

Christchurch.3oth September last, for false pretences, A. Thiel (name probably fictitious), age thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., medium build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved. Accused obtained the sum of £2 ss. from Richard Nash, hairdresser, 708 Colombo Street, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount. No warrant.

Christchurch. pretences, C. E. Graham (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, sallow complexion, light-brown eyes, large nose ; dressed in a darkgreen suit and light-brown felt hat. Accused obtained the sum of £4 from Alexander Hutchinson, restaurant-keeper, in Manchester Street, by means of a valueless cheque, No. 117798, for that amount. He is in possession of a cheque-book on the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association (Limited), Christchurch, Nos. 117793 to 117816, which he stole from Frederick Arthur Hopkins, Christchurch, about the sth instant. There are other charges pending.

Christchurch. —On or about the 11th October last, on warrant for false pretences, Herbert Johnston (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair. Accused obtained the sum of £ls from Albert Alfred Weston, storekeeper, 22 Tuam Street, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. He is believed to be identical with Leonard Maurice Nicholson, alias Albert O’Neill, referred to in Police Gazette, 1922, pages 640 and 652, and Photographs, 1920, page 53.

Dunedin. —16th instant, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for three months in default of paying £ll 17s. fid. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, an inmate of Caversham Industrial School, William Aitken, alias Fraser, age twentyeight, height 5 ft. 9|- in., carter and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes.
