PROPERTY STOLEN.
Newton. — Bth ultimo, from Karangahape Road, the property of CECIL LOCKIE, 67 Seafield View Road, a gentlemens black-enamelled Fleetwing bicycle, No. 11653, downturned handles with one celluloid grip, Dunlop Railroad tires ; value, £lO. Identifiable.
Newton. —On the 19th ultimo PERCY HOWARD WOODS’S dwelling at 7 Franklin Road was broken , into, and the following articles stolen, therefrom : A gentlemen’s silver open-face Swiss watch, with “ D. H. Woods, Wanganui, 12.9.16 ” scratched on inside of back case ; a gold bar shield brooch, with “L. A.W.” on it; a gold bird brooch, with “ Kia Ora ”on it; a bronze New Zealand military brooch with three huia feathers on it; a gold scarf-pin, set with an oval opal; a hatpin with a green-glass head; and a Loewe straight-stem pipe : total value, £lO 13s. Identifiable.
Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —On or about the 9th ultimo, from the s.s. “ Kawatiri,” the property of THOMAS WEBSTER, fireman, 167 King Street, Newcastle, N.S.W., a brown-composition suit-case, containing a dark-blue check coat, a grey vest, four pairs of blue-dungaree overalls, four singlets,"four shirts, four pairs of socks, a white-canvas holdall (containing ships’ discharges), and a pair of tan-leather boots with heel-plates ; total value, £7 17s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-four, height about ft. 6 in., slight build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in a blue suit and cap. He had the appearance of a half-caste Maori.
Auckland. Between the 20th and the 21st October last, from a building in Ladies’ Mile, Remuera, the property of ROBERT WILLIAM NICOLL, contractor, Garnett .Road, a quantity of tools (recovered), a brown-canvas kit, a rip-saw, a crosscut-saw, a tennon-saw, a brace, a draw-knife, three gauges, a hammer, two rebate-planes,- a bead-plane, an iron smoothing-plane, a wood smoothing-plane, an iron bull-nose rebate-plane, a spokeshave, an oilstone in a case, a 6 in. square, five chisels, eleven bits, a Stanley router, a hollow plane, a nickel plumb-bob, a spiral drill, and a large screwdriver ; total value, £ls Iss. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to George W. Rodgers (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 10 in., labourer,
strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes. He sold the recovered articles to a second-hand dealer at 90 Ponsonby Road for £2 ss. He may be identical with James Burke, at present serving a sentence for similar offences, who has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.
Auckland. 22nd October last, from the person of ALFRED NElLL,'gum-digger, Kaukapakapa, while under the influence of liquor in Nelson Street, a gentlemen’s silver hunting Geneva watch, No. 10665 or 67605; and a 9 ct. gold copper-lined curb watch-chain : total value, £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Harry Collins, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 6J in., seaman, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes ; bird, two flags, woman’s bust, and basket of flowers on left forearm ; dancing-woman on right forearm. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted. (See Police Gazette 1921, page 70.)
Auckland. —On the night of the 18th October last a building in Corbett Scott Avenue was broken into, and the following tools stolen therefrom, the property of REGINALD ARTHUR BURRETT and ALBERT EDGAR TAYLOR, carpenters : A rip-saw, two jack-planes, a smoothing-plane, a spirit-level, a keyhole-saw, five chisels, two screwdrivers, a fancy drill, a claw-hammer, and a canvas kit-bag, most of the tools branded “R. A. Burrett ” : total value, £9 2s. Identifiable-.
Auckland. GEOßGE POOLEY’S dwelling broken into: Charles King has been arrested by the Auckland and Onehunga police for this and other offences, and a portion of the stolen property recovered. (See Police Gazette, 1922, page 677.)
Auckland. — Between the 25th and 30th October last, from THOMAS HOLLYWOOD and JOSEPH SAMUEL MURRAY’S dwelling at Onehunga, a dark-brown suit-case with two nickel locks, “E. Hollywood” on one side; a silver thimble ; and a pair of gentlemen’s black watertight boots, size 6, heel plates, “ W.D.” on top of each : total value, £5. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Dick Burt, age about twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, freckled complexion, brown hair ; dressed in a blue suit and light-grey-felt hat. He was in possession of , 5 WS/%% Te Aroha. —3rd ultimo, from outside WILLIAM PERCY SMITH’S dwelling at Herriesville, a gentlemen’s blackenamelled free-wheel 24 in. B.S.A. bicycle, upturned handles, right pedal has been broken, front wheel buckled, Dunlop Railroad tire on back wheel; value, £5. Identifiable. Jla A Q-J23
Taumarunui.— BßlDGET VERONICA O’NEIL’S money, &c., stolen : The suspect, Beatrice Archer, has been arrested for the offence by the Invercargill police, and a poriton of the stolen property recovered. (See Police Gazette, 1922, page 567.) t
Hawera.— FREDERICK GEORGE PETERS’S watch, &c., stolen : William Gee has been arrested for this and other offences by the Hawera police. (See Police Gazette, 1922, page 385.)
Palmerston North. —11th ultimo, from Cuba Street, the property of ELIZABETH BROWN, 8 Oakley Street, a ladies’ black-enamelled free-wheel Swan Special bicycle, No. 129811, straight handles with black grips with gold lines on them, red tires ; value, £l2. Identifiable.
Palmerston North. CHARLES HERBERT GREENING, Te Awe Awe Street, a gentlemen’s green-enamelled free-wheel 24 in. B.S.A. bicycle, with Anderson’s transfer No. 777 on front stem and “ Brown’s Huraki, Thames, Builders,” on front plate, Pythem. tire on front wheel, Avon tire on back wheel; value, about £8 10s. Identifiable.
Christchurch.— Between the 2nd and 4th September last, from a building at 6 Slater Street, the property of JOHN ALEXANDER VEITCH, builder, 72 James Avenue, a kit of carpenter’s tools, including an iron plane with “ F. Obcrg ” on handle ; several mortise-locks ; twelve black casementstays ; and twelve butt hinges: total value, about .£l2. Plane only identifiable. % j / nJlAtnrt) Syy/2 c/
Christchurch. I Between the 13th and 18th October last DAVID BLAIR COCKERELL’S dwelling at 34 Chichester Street, Woolston, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom : A bangle consisting of German, French, Panamanian, Egyptian, American, and English coins joined with silver links ; a gold rifle-shape brooch, with a cap on muzzle with “ M.C.” on it, and a bar underneath with “ 23/385 ” on it ; a gold band ring, with “ M.C.D.8.C.E.L.0., N.Z. Trents,” and a fern-leaf on it, and “ Kia Ora ” on inside ; and 2s. : total value, £5 12s. Identifiable except money.
Timaru. —Between the 18th and 24th ultimo, while in transit between Wellington and Timaru, the property of R. HANNAH AND CO., Stafford Street, a pair of blackleather leggings, size 16 ; three pairs of ladies’ patent-leather Derby lace-up shoes, sizes 2,5, and 6, “ No. 145 ” inside of each ; a pair of ladies’ glace-kid Derby shoes with patent toe-caps, size 5 ; and two pairs of gentlemen’s black-glace-kid Derby boots with brown-leather lining, “ No. 1524, Hannah and C 0.,” on soles of each : total value, £9 ss. Identifiable.
