Accused was arrested and bailed to appear on the 16th instant at the City Court, Melbourne, but failed to do so. He is supposed to have come to this Dominion. Auckland.7th May last, on warrant for assault, Warran Oliver, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., racecourse guesser and pugilist, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, black hair, dark-brown eyes ; usually flashily dressed in a blue suit, grey-felt hat, and tan boots speaks quietly. Accused, who was being driven with others along Remuera Road by George Goodman, taxi-proprietor, requested the driver to stop and pick up a, friend. This was refused, and accused then assaulted Goodman, damaging his teeth. Brett (name probably fictitious), age about twenty -eight, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, medium build, dark hair and complexion, clean-shaved; respectable appearance. Accused stole the coat from a tool-shed in Little Queen Street and sold it in a second-hand shop for 3s.
