PERSONS WANTED.

+ Newton. —l4th November last. Inquiries are to be made for A. Edie, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., medium build, fair hair, clean-shaved. If located, the Inspector of Police, Auckland, is to be notified of his whereabouts.

Auckland. —20th April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 18s. costs for drunkenness,- Alfred Henderson, alias Brewer, alias Anderson, alias J. B. Tonks, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. s Jin., cook and carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, brown eyes, thick lips. (Sec Police Gazette, 1920, page 90.)

Auckland. —24th March last, for forgery, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, fair hair and complexion ; pleasant manner ; respectable appearance. Accused sent a telegram from Symonds Street Post-office to -- Murrell, Kilbirnie, Wellington, purporting to be from his (Murrell’s) son, David, asking for £ls. He obtained the money next day by forging the signature “D. J. Murrell ”to a postal receipt. No warrant.

Auckland. 23rd February last, for indecent assault on Edna Mildred McKenzie and Raymond McKenzie, schoolchildren, Man (name unknown), age about thirty-five, height 6 ft., thin build, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in a brown suit, black-fur hat, tan boots, and wears pince-nez. Accused took the children into Myers’s Park, where he committed the offence. No warrant.

Auckland. —27th May last, on warrant for false pretences, John H. Hardy, age twenty height 5 ft. 6 in., painter and canvasser, native of Australia, strong build, dark complexion, dark long hair, tattooed on right forearm ; well dressed in a blue-serge or grey check suit. Accused, who was employed by McNair and Go., land agents, obtained £SO from Catherine Sutcliffe, 25 Kingsland Avenue, by falsely representing that he had authority to sell a house at 63 Crummer Road, Grey Lynn. Auckland. l9th ultimo, on warrant for attempting to leave New Zealand with the intention of failing to make adequate provision for the maintenance of his wife, Alice Muriel Moor, 171 Ponsonby Road, during his absence, Henry Patrick Moor, alias Charles Muir, alias Graham, alias Mercier,

alias Peter De Martamer, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., canvasser and dealer, native of America, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on right cheek and forearm and on left in a grey suit and greyfelt hat nr cap. Auckland.— May last,'on warrant for attempting to leave New Zealand with the intention of failing to make adequate provision for the maintenance of his wife, Hilda James, 108 Ponsonby Road, and child., doffing his absence, Thomas Henry James',/ alias Jack James, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., . second-hand dealer," native of Australia, stout build/dark complexion, curly black hair, blue eyes, left eye artificial and has the appearance of being half closed. Auckland. 24th April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £7 10s., being his fare from Sydney by the s.s. “ Niagara,” on which vessel he evaded payment of fare, William Tuohy, age twentynine, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, dark hair and complexion, grey eyes, harp on each upper arm, clasped hands on right wrist, scar on left knee and on left nostril. Auckland. —l7th April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for trespass on Auckland Racecourse, Thomas Patrick Cuttle, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, scar, on right side of upper lip and on left thumb. He may be accompanied by his wife, age jf about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., pale complexion, dark hair and eyes ; stylishly dressed. strong build, copper complexion, long curly black hair, dark eyes, scar on upper lip and on left middle finger dressed in dungaree trousers, black-and-red football-jersey (no hat). Accused, who was arrested for a breach of the conditions of his probationary license, and was also to be charged with theft of war medals, &c., the property of John Harold Dixon (referred to in Police Gazette, 1922, page 164), escaped into the bush. D. Rugg, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., barman and labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit ; abrupt manner. Accused, who was a patient at Wairoa Hospital, on being discharged was given the suit-case to deliver to its owner, Henry George Chase, but he failed to do so. (See PolicqjQazette, 1922, page 302.) Palmerston North. — 12th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, J. H. Wilson, age about thirty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; dressed in a brownish-grey suit, light soft-felt hat with “ Zealandia, F.H. 25/” on band inside. Accused obtained a hat and £2 15s. cash from William Henry Skinner, draper, 271 Main Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 on the Bank of New Zealand, Palmerston North.

Blenheim. —4th February last, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of paying £8 14s. 9d. balance of fine and costs on two charges of theft, Douglas Westrupp, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair brushed back, hazel eyes; shamrock, thistle, butterfly, ship, and woman’s head on left forearm; bird, clasped hands, “ 46216 ” and “ N.Z.” on right arm ; dressed in a brown-tweed suit and tan boots (no hat). Westport. 4th April last, that he may be interviewed regarding his failure to maintain his four children, inmates of Christchurch Receiving Home, Clement Harold Mansfield, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 11 in., bushman and labourer, native of Tasmania, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, small dark moustache, thin face. 2/ 2W

Westport. March last, that he may be compelled to maintain his child, an inmate of a receiving home, John Tait, alias Bright, age forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark hair and complexion, hazel eyes ; fond of drink. ■- * 'f t/

Dareield. 26th May last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Eliza Jane Watson, Percy Watson, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and shearer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair turning grey, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; dressed in a dark-tweed ready-made suit and soft-felt hat; fond of drink. Christchurch. —12th April last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £6, the property of John Charles Forsyth, chemist, A. Knight (name probably fictitious), age about twenty, height 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, dark complexion, long hair. Accused stole the bicycle from 63 Armagh Street, and sold it to Leslie McNeill, Gamage Cycle-works, Manchester Street.

Ashburton. 22nd ultimo, on' warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for three months in default of paying £8 7s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Robert Somerville, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, .ruddy complexion, brown hair and eyes, clean-shaved. Timaru. 2sth May last, that he may be informed that if he does not comply with the conditions of his release upon probation he is liable to be arrested, Robert Grant, age twentyfive, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, kangaroo and flag on right forearm, gun-shot scar on left cheek ; usually well dressed in a blue suit ; smart appearance.
