PERSONS WANTED.

Whangarei.— lsth August last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Neils Peder Hjalmer Pederssen, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 6| in., labourer and seaman, native of Denmark, stout build, fair complexion, hazel eyes ; star, cross, heart, and anchor on left forearm. (See following paragraph.)

Whangarei. —lsth August last, that proceedings for failing to register in accordance with the provisions of the Registration of Aliens Act, 1917, may be instituted against her, Violet Pederssen, age twenty-four, native of New Zealand. She may be accompanied by her husband, referred to in preceding paragraph.

Auckland. 23rd August last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Euphemia V. Darroch, Dargaville, Henry Joseph Darroch, age forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, slight build, dark - red hair going bald, large protruding eyes, thin features, several upper teeth stopped with gold ; dressed in dark trousers, grey coat and vest, grey-tweed hat, and browngabardine overcoat; slightly stooped. Auckland. —On or about Ist August last, on warrant for theft of £l9 95., the property of Auckland Education Board, Shortland Street, Neville John Gall, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, slight build, pale sallow complexion, curly fair hair, shifty eyes, broad forehead, protruding ears, thin features ; usually dressed in a navy-blue or grey suit and light-felt hat or cap. Accused, who was employed by the above Board, committed theft of a cheque for £l9 9s. issued for payment to Tonson Garlick and Co. Auckland. —sth instant, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £lO, the property of E. A. Perkins and Co., auctioneers, Alfred Hubert Callaghan, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, scar on left side of neck ; dressed in a dark suit and brown-felt hat. The bicycle was taken from outside the Bank of Australasia, Queen Street, and sold at E. R. Hutchinson’s bicycle-shop, Newton, for £2 10s. (See Police Gazette,MOM, page 345.) / M ft % f

Auckland. 2sth ultimo, for theft of a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered), value £3, the property of Marmaduke Matthews, farmer, William Tait, alias Baugh, age about fifty-seven, height 5 ft. 11 in., medium build, fair freckled complexion, grey hair and moustache ; dressed in a brown suit and hard hat. Auckland. 2Bth June last, that he may be warned to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Richard Thomas Carroll, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 10 in., carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, curly dark hair; horse’s head, “ Good luck,’’ and clasped hands on right forearm; woman and clasped hands on left forearm. Newmarket.— 4th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Edith Harriet Haire, 55 Selbourne Street, Grey Lynn, Alexander Haire, age sixty-three, height 6 ft., carrier and farmer, native of Ireland, slight build, tanned complexion, grey hair going bald, grey eyes and moustache, large mouth and exposes gums when laughing, some teeth missing, long neck, leans slightly forward, scar on tip of one ear; dressed in a grey-tweed suit., op, saddle-tweed .guit with small green stripes. yoy /

Newmarket. —11th August - last, for theft of tools (recovered), value £3 65., the property of Charles William Robinson, Parnell, James Kerr (name probably fictitious), age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, brown moustabhe ; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat. The tools were stolen from a shed in Ngapuhi Road and sold at the Waterside Loan, pawnshop for 10s. No warrant. ciHMe<yf&u niwQ/y, x, Te Awamutu. —6th instant) for escaping from Waikeria Prison, James Brown Olsen, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and drover, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, nose appears to have been broken, scar on left side of forehead, on left cheek, and on right side of nose ; Swedish appearance, and speaks with slightly broken accent ; may be dressed in riding-breeches and tanned boots, which were stolen from a whare near Te Kuiti, the property of Peter Mora, farmer, by a man of Gazette, 1921, page 554.)

Rotorua.— 3rd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £2, the property of John Lewis, bicycle-dealer, Fenton Street, M. Matheson, age about thirty-four, height 6 ft., steward, thin build, dark hair and complexion, prominent front teeth, clean-shaved ; dressed in a navy-blue suit. Accused hired the bicycle and sold it to a taxi-driver at Te Teko for £2. He stated he was an officer on the s.s. “ Pakeha.”

Wanganui. lst July last, that he may be compelled to maintain his daughter, an inmate of Wellington Receiving Home, Herbert Oliver Sundborn, age about thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale freckled complexion, fair hair, stooped shoulders ; usually dressed in a dark suit and grey-felt hat. On or about the 13th August last, on warrant for theft of £lO, the property of Patrick O’Gorman, Margaret Maher, age about twenty height 5 ft. 5 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair freckled complexion, fair hair, brown eyes. Complainant is a patient in the public hospital, Pahiatua, and gave accused, who was then a probationary nurse at the institution, £lB to bank for him. Herne (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, protruding eyes, small dark moustache ; dressed in a dark suit, brown shabby felt hat, and tan boots. Accused stole the . coat from the Carlton Hotel, and sold it to Moses Davis, second-hand dealer, Taranaki Street. William Clarence Jarvis, theft: It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that accused was discharged from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, at London, in March, 1918. Collingwood. 22nd July last, that proceedings for failing to maintain his son, John Henry Duthie, an inmate of an industrial school, may be instituted against him, Benjamin Duthie, alias John H. Duthie, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; fond of drink. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 118.)

Christchurch. 27th July last, on warrant for theft of a gold wristlet watch (recovered), value £6, the property of Ralph Stephen Beadel, clerk, 26 Paparoa Street, J. F. Robertson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., strong build, dark hair; dressed in a dark suit, dark cap, and tan boots. Accused stole the watch from complainant’s dwelling and sold it to William White, secondhand dealer, for £1 ss.

Christchurch. —Between the 3rd and 12th July last, on warrant for false pretences, H. E. Hartwell, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, traveller, „and tinsmith, native of England-, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair and moustache, blue eyes ; dressed in a brown suit and soft khaki hat.
