Auckland—During April, 1920, from the Drill Hall, Rutland Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), five rifles, Nos. 1275, 1395, 1453, 1493, and 1976, branded M.L.E.M.K. 1 Short, N.Z. : total value’. £25. Identifiable.

Auckland.—24th ultimo, from the person of HAROLD FRANCIS SHERWOOD KING, journalist, Silverstream, Wellington, while under the influence of liquor in Grey Street’ a gentlemen’s gold half-hunting watch, with “ H.F.S.K.” on back case, glass and bezel missing; a 9 ct. gold curb double watch-chain ; a £5 note; and six £1 notes: total value, £54. Identifiable except money.

Auckland.—-7th ultimo, from a dressing-shed in Victoria Park, the property of LEONARD LAURIE, Pukekohe, a pair of trousers, a vest, and a shirt (recovered); a gentlemen’s silver hunting Waltham watch, No. 1911648, with “C. K. Laurie, 1909,” on back ; a silver curb watch-chain, with a threepenny-piece, a brass medal, and two small keys attached ; a brief-bag about 16 in. long ;• and. 6s. in silver : total value, £l3 6s. Te Aroiia.—On the 6th instant, the dwelling of MATHEW LIPANOVICH, farmer, Ngarua, was broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : A broken wristlet watch with illuminated dial; a silver curb watch-chain ; a gold medal, with shield with crossed guns on one side and “ M. Lipanovich ” on the other side ; a pair of khaki riding-breeches ; a Kropp razor; a cheque, No. 407, for £3 15s. on Bank of New Zealand, Paeroa, drawn by the Thames Valley Dairy Company in favour of complainant; and 2s. 6d. : total value, £lO 15s.‘ 6d. During the night of the 28th ultimo JOHN MAY’S billiard-saloon at Ohura was broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : A gentlemen’s gold ring (stone missing from centre); a blank cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, Ohura, signed “ John May ” ; several receipts and letters ; a Tucker patent till, containing £9 10s. : total value, £l2 15s. Identifiable.

Gisborne.— On or about the 15th ultimo, from a paddock, the property of PATRICK GAVIN, Aberdeen Road, a three-year-old bay pony, 14 hands (broken); value, £5. Identifiable.

Mangaweka. —During the night of 14th instant the shop of HUGH JOHNSTON, draper, was broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : A dark large rug; two dark woollen Kaiapoi shirts ; a fawn-gabardine raincoat; a white sweater ; a pair of black boots, size 8 ; a pair of nailed heavy shooting- ; a grey-felt hat; a fawn-felt hat; a brown suit, size 5 ; a fawn-grey sport’s coat; two heavy woollen singlets ; two pairs of heavy ribbed underpants ; a Roslyn singlet; a pair of Roslyn underpants ; two pairs of dark saddle-tweed trousers ; braces ; collars; and ties : total value, £26 7s. 6d. Identifiable.

Palmerston North. 3rd instant, from a locker in the jockeys’ room at Otaki Racecourse, the property of HERBERT STUART, jockey, Featherston, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting keyless watch, No. 629412, heart engraved on frontcase ; a silver curb double watch-chain, with a heart-shaped silver medal attached : total value, £7 13s. Identifiable.

Wellington. During the night of the 16th ultimo, from the dwelling of WINIFRED JEPSON, 13 Barker Street, an 18 ct. gold engagement-ring, set with five small diamonds in claw setting, “K ” inside ; and a ladies’ gold ring, set with eight small diamonds around a sapphire on two gold leaves on top : total value, £ls. Identifiable.

Wellington. During the night of the Bth instant, from clothing in the dressing-room at the Wellington Meat Export Company’s works, the property of ALBERT BUR-RIDGE, 16 John Street, a gentlemen’s silver hunting Rot her hams watch, “ No. 7788 ” scratched inside, gold hands; and 14s. Id. : total value, £7 9s. Id. Watch only identifiable.

Wellington.— 24th ultimo, from THOMAS FREDERICK SPARKS’S bedroom at the Selwyn Hotel, a small leather brief-bag, with “T. F. Sparks, Lodge Hinemoa, No. 122,” on flap, containing a Masonic apron and a lodge parchment certificate; a leather hold-all, containing four razors, made by Cadman and Sons, Sheffield ; a razor-strop, with “La France, British Manufacture,” on it ; and two razor-hones : total value, £9 14s. Identifiable.

Greymouth.— 2nd instant, from CHARLES LAMONT’S hair-dressing shop in Mawhera Quay, a black-enamelled cashbox, about 9 in. by 4 in. by 3 in., with gold lines, containing £23 in £1 notes and silver. Suspicion is attached to Harold Victor Ruscoe, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., ex-jockey, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a dark suit with a white stripe through it and a black-velour hat.
