Shooting Season for Imported and Native Game, License Fee, &c., North Canterbury Acclimatization District.
JELLICOE, Governor-General. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game —viz., Californian quailmay be killed within the North Canterbury Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Nelson, Marlborough, and Canterbury Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at Whitcombe Pass and proceeding north-easterly along the summit of the Southern Alps and the Spenser Mountains to Mount Humboldt ; thence along a right line to Barefell Pass, a right line to Palmer Saddle, and thence down the Conway River to its mouth ; thence southerly along the sea-coast to Rakaia River, and up that river to its source at Whitcombe Pass, the point of commencement (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, both days inclusive. And Ido further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. And I do further notify that the following native game viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck, paradise duck, and black swanmay be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Sohedule hereto) from the second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-one, both days inclusive. And I do hereby restrict the number of native game, other than paradise duck, that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all, and paradise duck to not more than five head in any one day.
SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not BE KILLED. All that area in the County of Akaroa, situated in the Akaroa and Ellesmere Survey Districts, Canterbury Land
District, containing by admeasurement 1,540 acres, more or less, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth, including all roads fronting on the shores of the said lake. Also all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 250, 810, 890, and 157. Also that area situated at Woodend, in the Mandeville and Rangiora Road District, and defined in notification published in Gazette No. 93, of Bth November, 1900. Also that area known as Yarr’s Lagoon, near Greenpark, and defined in Gazette No. 52, of 23rd June, 1904. Also all that area within one mile on each side of the West Coast (Christcharch-Hokitika) Road from Springfield to Dillmanstown. Also Ahuriri Lagoon. Also Horse-shoe Lake. Also Glenmark Lagoon. Also Cheviot Lagoon. Also all the River Avon and its tributaries to the tramwaybridge at New Brighton. Also lagoons at Amberley—namely, all that area, containing 74 acres, more or less, being Section No. 5664, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Alfred Edward Tutton, of Amberley. Also all that area, containing 162 acres, more or less, being Section No. 7409, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Frederick Busch, of Newlands, Amberley. Also mill-dam and land at Oust, the property of Mr. R. Gardner. Also small lake at Waikari, containing 3 acres, more or less, the property of Mr. H. T. Matthews. Also Blythe Swamp, situated in Stonyhurst Survey District, containing 40 acres, more or less. Also certain land in Rangiora Survey District. (See Gazette No. 77, of 13th July, 1916, page 2349.) Also all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native gape.
