EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

(From Neio Zealand Gazette, 1921, pages 496, and 540.) Prohibiting Trawling in Otago Harbour JELLICOE, Governor-General. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this Ist day of February, 1921. Present : The Right Honourable W. F. Massey, P.C., presiding in Council. WHEREAS it is enacted by the fifth section of the Fisheries Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act”), that the Governor-General in Council may from time to time make regulations, which shall have force and effect throughout New Zealand, or only in any waters or places specified therein, for, amongst other things, imposing conditions and restrictions on the taking of fish, and for prohibiting the use of any particular engines, tackles, or apparatus for taking any fish: And whereas it is desirable to prohibit the taking of fish by trawling and the use of trawl-nets in Otago Harbour: Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power and authority conferred by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations'for the purposes of the said Act.

REGULATIONS. 1. No person shall haul or use a trawl-net for the purpose of taking fish in Otago Harbour inside a straight line draw'll from the outermost point of Taiaroa Head Lighthouse to Hayward Point. 2. Any person committing a breach of clause 1 of these regulations is liable to a penalty of not less than £1 and not exceeding £2O. F. D. THOMSON, Clerk of the Executive Council.

Regulations for Deer-shooting, Butler. JELLICOE, Governor-General. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), 1, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, Governor - General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the -shooting season in the Buffer Acclimatization District, comprising the Buffer and Inangahua Counties, bounded towards the north-west generally by a line starting at a point on the Tasman Sea coast at Kohaihai Bluff, in Block XIII, Whakapoai Survey District, and proceeding up a leading spur and along the summit of a range over Mount Domett to Mount Cobb ; thence towards the north-east generally by a lino along the summit of the western- ranges over Mount Snowdon and Mount Peel to Mount Arthur; thence towards the southeast by a line along the summit of a leading range over Mount Luna and along the summit of Lyell Range to Bald Hill; thence by a line down a loading spur on the western side of Eight-mile or Boundary Stream to the mouth of that stream; thence down the left bank of the Buffer

River and up the right bank of the Inangahua River to a point due north of Mount Haast; thence by a right line to Mount Haast; thence by a right line to the nearest point of the Grey River; thence towards the south-west generally by a line down the middle of the Grey River to its confluence with the Otututu River; thence by a line up the middle of the Otututu River to its source near Mount Faraday; thence by a right line to Mount Faraday; thence towards the south-east by a line along the summit of the Paparoa Range to a point near the source of the Punakaiki or Deadman’s River; thence towards the south-west generally by a right line to that source, and by a line down the middle of that river to the sea ; thence towards the north-west by the Tasman Sea to Kohaihai Bluff, the place of commencement: and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the Buller Acclimatization District from the Ist April, 1921, to the 31st May, 1921 (both days inclusive) ; and hinds from the 2nd May, 1921, to the 31st May, 1921 (both days inclusive). 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Westport, on payment of a license fee of £l, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations ; provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than three stags and three hinds, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than eight points. 4. No licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 6. Regulations as to deer “tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Yol. I, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused tags to the secretary of the Buller Acclimatization Society, Westport, immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such tags have been issued, together with a statement of the number of deer shot. 7. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall bo liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O. Schedule. No. License to take or kill Game (Deer). , of , having this day paid the sum of £ , is hereby authorized to take or kill reddeer stags, of not less than points, and three hinds, within the Buller Acclimatization District from the day of , 1921, to the day of , 1921 (both days inclusive), subject to the provisions of the Animals Protection Act, 1908, and all regulations thereunder in force within the said district. Regulations for Deer-shooting , South Canterbury. JELLICOE, Governor-General. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act”), I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, GovernorGeneral of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deershooting season in the South Canterbury Acclimatization District (as defined in the New Zealand Gazette of the sixteenth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, comprising the Counties of Geraldine and Levels and part of the County of Mackenzie), and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Fallow-deer bucks may be taken or killed within the South Canterbury Acclimatization District from the Ist day of April, 1921, to the 31st day of May, 1921, both days inclusive.

2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Postmaster at Temuka, upon the recommendation of the secretary of the South Canterbury Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £2, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. The number of such licenses to be issued by the said Postmaster shall not exceed twenty; provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than three fallow-deer bucks. 4. No doe or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 6. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O. Schedule. No. . Regulations for -shooting, Waitaki. JELLICOE, Governor-General. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act”), I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, GovernorGeneral of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Waitaki Acclimatization District, comprising all that area in the Canterbury and Otago Land Districts bounded towards the north-west by the summit of the Southern Alps from the north-eastern corner of Vincent County to Mount Cook ; thence towards the north-east by a right line over Ball Hut to the Tasman Glacier, by the western side of the Tasman Glaoier to the Tasman River, by a line along the middle of that river and through the middle of Lake Pukaki to and along the middle of the Pukaki River and the middle of the Waitaki River to the sea ; towards the east by the sea to Waihemo County ; and towards the south-west and west by Waihemo, Maniototo, and Vincent Counties to the summit of the Southern Alps, the place of commencement ; and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the Waitaki Acclimatization District from the Ist. day of April, 1921, to the 20th day of May, 1921 (both days inclusive). 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Oamaru, on the recommendation of the secretary of the Waitaki Acclimatization Society, at Oamaru, on payment of a license fee of £3, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and the regulations made thereunder. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than four stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. Ball cartridge only to be used. 4. An additional license to take or kill red-deer stags may be issued to any person at a fee of £2, and no holder of such additional license shall take or kill more than two stags under or by virtue' of such license, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. Ball cartridge only to be used. 5. No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever ; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him.

6. The licensee must give notice to the said Chief Postmaster of the date on which it is his intention to stalk deer ; such notice to be posted, or delivered, or telegraphed three clear days before such date. 7. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 8. Regulations as to deer “ tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Vol. I, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused “ tags ” to the secretary of the Waitaki Acclimatization Society, at Oamaru, immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags” have been issued, together with a statement of the number of deer shot. 9. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act ”), I, John Rushworth, Viscount Jellicoe, GovernorGeneral of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Otago Acclimatization District, and the conditions affecting the same, and alsi the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer may be taken or killed within the Otago Acclimatization District, in the Hunter Valley, Dingle, Hawea Flat, and Makarora districts from the Ist day of April, 1921, to the 20th day of May, 1921 (both days inclusive), and in the Greenvale,:Wart Hill, Upper Pomahaka, and Whitecomb districts from the 24th day of March, 1921, to the 13th day of May, 1921 (both days inclusive). In both districts stalkers are only authorized to shoot on the blocks specified in their respective licenses. 2. Fallow-deer bucks may be taken or killed within the said district, except in the areas described in the First Schedule hereto, from the Ist day of April, 1921, to the 15th day of May, 1921 (both days inclusive). 3. Licenses to take or kill red-deer stags may be issued by the Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatization Society,' on

payment of a license fee of £6 for the Hunter Valley, Dingle, Hawea Flat, and Makarora districts, and £4 for the Greenvale, Wart Hill, Upper Pomahaka, and Whitecomb districts ; and licenses to take or kill fallow-deer bucks may be issued by the said Chief Postmaster, Dunedin, and the Postmaster at Tapanui, upon a like recommendation, on payment of a license fee of £2 ; such licenses to be issued in the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. 4. No licensee shall take or kill more than three red-deer stags in the Hunter Valley, Dingle, Hawea Flat, or Makarora districts, nor more than two red-deer stags in the Greenvale, Wart Hill, Upper Pomahaka, and Whitecomb districts, nor more than two fallow-deer bucks ; and no red-deer stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points, and no fallow-deer buck shall be killed carrying antlers with less than fourteen points (on a palmate of less than 4 in.). Ball cartridge only to be used. 5. The licensee must give notice to the said Chief Postmaster or the Postmaster at Tapanui of the date on which it is his intention to stalk deer; such notice to be posted, or delivered, or telegraphed three clear days before such date. 6. No doe, hind, or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever, and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 7. No person other than the license-holder, whether accompanying the license-holder or not, will be allowed to c rry a rifle on the shooting blocks during the season as authorized by these regulations. 8. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or any portion thereof. 9. Regulations as to deer “ tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Vol. 1, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused “ tags ” to the Secretary of the Otago Acclimatization Society immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such tags have been issued, together with a statement of the number of deer shot. 10. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O.
