PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland —29th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a suit of clothes and three 10s. notes (recovered), total value £4 108., the property of Thomas Arthur Adamson, labourer, Barney Douglas, alias John Sullivan, age twentythree, height 5 ft. 4§in., fireman and seaman, native of South Afrioa, strong build, dark copper complexion, curly short dark hair, dark-brown eyes, two scars on left forearm, scar on left side of neck ; dressed in a blue-serge suit, black lace-up boots with American toes, and cap or black-felt hat; supposed to be a half- or three-quarter-caste negro. Accused, who was staying at the Salvation Army Home, stole the suit containing the money, and pawned it at Kissin’s pawnshop, Hobson Street, for £l. He afterwards sold the pawn ticket or 4s. (See Police Gazette , 1919, page 612.)

Napier.— 3oth ultimo, on warrant for failing to main tain his wife, Mary Ann Clapperton, West Clive, Henry Frederick William Clapperton, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and soldier, native of England, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Napier. (See Police Gazette , 1918, page 193.)

Palmerston North.— llth August last, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £4, the property of Alfred Sydney Blackey, message-boy, 67 Campbell Street, John Leonard, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, grey eyes; dressed in khaki riding-trousers and dark coat and cap. Accused stole the bicycle from outside Smith’s butcher’s shop in Main Street, and offered it for sale in the bar of the Occidental Hotel to Thomas Mason, who lent him £1 on it, on the understanding that accused would refund the money two months later and take possession of the bicycle. He is believed to b 9 identical with man of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1919, page 634.

Foxton.— 3rd September last, that he may be compelled to pay £243 16s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, Margaret H. Doughty, Herbert Doughty, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 4§in., labourer, native of New Zealand, sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, hazel eyes, oblique nose; “Lionel” and “ 29/11/09” on right arm; “ Love,” “ Gladys,” and “ Hinemoa ” on left forearm ; scar on right forearm and over right eye; ruptured on left side. Arrears computed to 3rd September last. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 355, and Photographs, 1908, page 1.)

Woodville. — On or about the 11th September last, for forgery and uttering, Colin Mackenzie, alias Alexander Roscue Chadwick, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 2Jin., labourer, native of Scotland, strong build, fresh complexion, auburn hair, brown eyes, tattooed on right forearm, two fingers missing from one hand ; usually well-dressed in a greyishbrown sport’s suit and cap. Accused stole the cheque from James Lawson Fraser, farm-manager, Wimbledon, forged the name “ P. Hamil ” to it, and uttered it to Robert Henry Howard, hotelkeeper, Woodville. No warrant. Woodville.- sth September last, for false pretences, H. Barnett, alias Robert John Watkins, alias Robert Williams, alias Harry Willis, alias John Henry Withers, alias Henry R. Watkins, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 4£in., native of England, strong build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, indistinct tattooing on left forearm ; usually dressed in a grey suit. Accused obtained £2 9s. 6d. from Mrs. Emily Cowper Mules by means-of a valueless cheque for £3, which he tendered in payment of an account of 10s. 6d. which he owed to Dr. Mules for medical treatment. There is another similar charge pending. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1919, pages 631 and 648.)

Wellington.— 3lst ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for failing to find security to compel his obedience to a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ellen Brown, John King Brown, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., carrier, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes ; profusely tattooed on arms. On the 3rd September last accused was ordered to pay £1 15s. per week towards the maintenance of his wife, also to deposit £25 with the Public Trustee and find one surety of £25. He has disobeyed the order.

Christchurch. —4th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Catherine Mcßae, 26 Cutler’s Road, Riccarton, is the mother, Alfred Edward Laney, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. sJin., butcher, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, blue hazel eyes, arms and hands freckled. Arrears to 30th June last, £4 11s. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 274.)

Christchurch. —lßth June last, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for three months in default of paying £6l 17s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Herbert Henry Moher, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes.
