DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE
From the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Auckland. —2lst August last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, William Herbert Jones, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7£in., artist, medium build, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes.
Auckland. — 23th October last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Thomas William Garnaut, age forty-one, height 5 ft. in., seaman, medium build, dark hair and complexion, blue eyes.
Cambridge. —3lst May last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, William Smith, age thirty-seven height 5 ft. 7£ in., carpenter.
Cambridge. —loth ultimo, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Patrick Diamond, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer.
Cambridge.— 10th September last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, James Stewart, farmer.
Cambridge. — Tikau Pakanga, failing to parade for medical examination : It bas been ascertained by the Cambridge police that accused’s correct name is Charlie Moherori. He is now described as age about twenty-four (looks much younger), short strong build, farm labourer, light complexion ; a half-caste Maori. (See Police Gazette, 1918. page 538.)
Opotiki. —loth September last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Edward Williams, age thirty-three, height sft. 6 in., bushman. He may be identical with man of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1918, page 653.
Wellington.— Thomas Paton, failing to parade for medical examination: It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that accused deserted from the s.s. “ Moeraki ” at Hobart (Tasmania) on the 17th March, 1917. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 595.)
Wellington. —loth September last, on military war rant for failing to parade for medical examination, George William Wager, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 9$ in., steward.
Wellington. —loth September last, on military warrant for failing to prooeed to camp, William Whie, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 9J in., seaman, native of New Foundland.
Wellington.— 3oth August, 1917, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Harold Joseph Donnellan, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., seaman and soldier, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, left foot flat. He deserted from the 28th Reinforcement at Cape Town.
Nelson.— 7th October last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Henry Richard Murray, alias Edwards, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., farmer and soldier, dark complexion, black hair, hazel eyes.
Waikari. — 10th September last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Alfred McAlister.
Christchurch. —11th April last, on military warrant for being absent from camp without leave, William Howie, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. in., saddler, native of Scotland, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, soar near left eye. Next-of-kin, Andrew Robinson Howie (father), Melbourne Street, Invercargill. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 316.)
Christchurch. —10th September last, on military war rant for failing to parade for medical examination, John Mulloy, age thirty-nine, height 6 ft. 1 in., platelayer.
Fairlie. —10th September last, on military warrant for failing to parade for medical examination, Matthew Wilson, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer, medium build, dark hair and complexion, clean-shaved.
Queenstown. —26th July last, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Charles Stanley Brewer, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 3Jin., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, lightbrown hair, hazel eyes, Red Indian and other designs on right arm, kangaroo and other designs on left arm.
Queenstown.—23rd September last, on military warrant for failing to proceed to camp, Arthur Wallace, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 6|in., miner, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes; usually dressed in a dark suit.
Otautau.—3lst January, 1918, on military warrant for deserting from Expeditionary Force, Norman Dallas Lee, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., soldier, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes.
