PERSONS WANTED.
Auckland. —sth ultimo, on warrant for obscene language in Queen Street, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height 6 ft., soldier, good build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, clean-shaved ; rough appearance. Acoused was ejected from the Commonwealth Dining-rooms when he used the language.
Te Awamutu. —Between the Ist November and 81st January last, on warrant for theft of seventy-four rabbittraps (twenty recovered), value £7 Bs., the property of Tom Reginald Phillipson, farmer, Te Mawhia, George William Finn, alias George Lake, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and fireman, native of England, slight build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue-grey eyes, tombstone, “In memory of my father,” woman, sailing-ship, clasped hands, and heart on left forearm; quarrelsome; rolling gait; Cockney accent. Accused was seen to take the traps away and attempt to sell them. He left twenty of them with a Maori, which have been recovered. (See Police Gazette , 1917, page 633.)
Te Kuiti. —7th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife and child, William John Spick, age fortytwo, height 6 ft., taxi-driver and mill hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, hair, ejes, and moustache; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit and lightcoloured felt hat. He takes an active part in fire brigades and bands; erect gait; active appearance. Complainant, Lily Spick, Taupiri Street. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 600.)
Gisborne. —26th March last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Robert John Clark, age twenty-nine, slaughterman.
Taihape. — Lena Hines, default of maintenance: It has been ascertained by the Wanganui police that she was an inmate of the Salvation Army Home, Wellington, under the assumed name, Ruby Burns. (See Police Gazette, 1917, pages 514.)
Napier.— 2sth March last, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for three months in default of paying £ls 17s. Bd., arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, John Watt Smith, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and driver, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair complexion, dark hair turning gr. y, grey eyes; usually dressed in a brown dirty-tweed suit and soft-felt hat; dirty appearance; fond of drink. Arrears computed to Ist February last. (See Police Gazette , 1917, page 238.)
Wanganui. —loth ultimo, that he may be located and the military authorities notified of his whereabouts, John Springer, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in a navyblue suit and black-felt hat. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 307.)
Wanganui. —2Bth Maroh last, that he may be located and the military authorities notified of his whereabouts, Harry Lardner, age forty-two, height 5 ft. in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a dark-tweed suit and grey-felt hat.
Feilding. —2oth March last, that a notice of fine and costs for 17s. for failing to attend drill may be served upon him, Frederick Alexander Daniel Fraser, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, sallow complexion, dark hair, darkbrown eyes; dressed in a brown suit and soft-felt hat.
Masterton. —3oth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for two months in default of paying £2l 7s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Ann Noble, Featherston, Fred Noble, age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., oook, native of Denmark, good build, fresh complexion, fair hair turning grey, long fair moustache; usually dressed in a blue suit. He is supposed to be a native of Denmark, and speaks fairly good English.
Ranciora. —26th December last, that proceedings for failing to no'ify his change of address may be instituted against him, Charles George Penson, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 9Jin., labourer and miner, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, large brown moustache, scar on left elbow and thumb; usually dressed in a brown dirty suit and cap. He was photographed at Hokitika 4/8/04.
Christchurch.— 3oth ultimo, on warrant for theft of two planes, three chisels, a screw-driver, a hammer, and other tools (recovered), value £3 10s., the property of Robert Wicks, carpenter, 362 Cashel Street, F. Lister (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 5 in., thin build, pale complexion, fair hair. Accused stole the articles from a building in course of erection in Redruth Avenue, and sold them to Mrs. Perry, second-hand dealer, Durham Street.
Christchurch.—loth instant, that proceedings for failing to enrol may be instituted against him, Stephen Mann, age thirty-three, shearer.
Fairlie. —2nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value £4, the property of Hugh McDonald, wheelwright, George Edward Prebble, alias Whitehead, alias E. Dawson, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., co. k, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair and eyes, aquiline nose; full beard ; right forefinger missing at second joint. A secondhand dealer at Timaru, to whom the bicycle was sold for 155., identified the photograph of accused as the man from whom he purchased the bicycle, and who gave the name E. Dawson. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 101.)
Temuka. —15th February last, on warrant for forgery and uttering, T. P. Wilson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, slight build, pale complexion, curly fair hair, clean-shaved; usually dressed in a grey-tweed suit, grey-felt hat, and tan boots. Accused was employed for harvesting by James Airay, farmer, Orton. After two weeks’ work he was paid £2 by cheque, which he subsequently altered to £lO and uttered to Bertha Walker, shop-assistant, Timaru, in payment for a watch, receiving £8 7s. 6d. in change.
Waimate.— loth June, 1909, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his mother, Mary Nelson, John Nelson, age forty-six, height about 5 ft. 5 in., engine-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes. Arrears to Bth instant, £llO 10s.
Kaitangata. William James Summerfield Worthley, default of maintenance: It has been ascertained by the Kaitangata police that accused was in Canada last year. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 397.)
Invercargill. —On or about the sth instant, for theft of an Indian motor-bicycle (recovered), value £7O, the property of Thomas Webb Vickery, cycle-importer, Dee Street, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build, fresh complexion, clean-shaved; wearing a light-brown waterproof overcoat and soft-felt bat, turned down in front. Complainant’s shop was broken into, and the bioycle stolen. Accused endeavoured to hire a motor-bicycle from complainant and other bicycle-dealers, but was refused. No warrant.
