PROPERTY STOLEN.

Te Puke. —Between the 15th December and 11th January last, from the Defence Office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Departmept), a Government -303 rifle, No. 2491, and 150 rounds of ball ammunition : total value, £4 17s. 6d. Not identifiable.

Motu.— 4th January last, from the roadside at Matawai, the property of WALTER' JOHN HENRY GOULD DAVIDSON, carrier, Matawai, a dark-bay pacer gelding hack, five years, 16 hands, blaze on face, white hind feet, scar on off side shoulder-blads; and a light-bay, low-set, half-draught mare with black points, branded with JJ on near shoulder : total value £4O. Identifiable.

Te Awamutu. — 7th instant, the property of ERNEST REDGATE, Mangapiko, an aged dark-brown half-bred gelding, about 15 hands, docked tail but hair grown long, black marks on sides ; a heavy Colonial stock saddle, right kneepad torn, stitching on seat undone, red surcingle ; and a single-rein bridle, with a red forehead-band : total value, £l6 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Baker, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., farm labourer, native of England, strong build, dark hair, complexion, and moustache, blue eyes ; a tooth missing from front of upper jaw ; dressed in light riding-breeches, dark-grey coat, black leggings and boots, dirty yellow shirt, celluloid collar, and black soft beaver hat; very talkative ; Lancashire accent. He may be identical with William Henry Baker, referred to in Police Gazette, 1918, page 64. Aocused borrowed the property and failed to return it.

New Plymouth. —2nd January last, from WILLIAM FRASER’S shop, a No. 1A kodak, special camera, about 8 in. by 4 in., in dark-leather covering, with “ 1904” on back; value £lO 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to John Benjamin Clark, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 3fin., auctioneer, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes; dressed in dark clothes. Accused was aearohed by the Stratford police without result. (See Police Gazette , 1917, page 562.)

Napier. —2nd instant, from Hastings Street, the property of WILLIAM HENRY SMALL, 81 Wellesley Road, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel bicycle, front-rim brake (one rubber missing), rat-trap pedals, front tire has been patched with a piece of old tire about 6 in. long ; value, £4. Identifiable.

Napier. 3rd instant, from outside the municipal swimming-baths, the property of JOHN HEYURST, Tennyson Street, a gentlemen’s green-enamelled Excelsior bicycle, upturned handles, crossed-bar frame, Bates tires, large patch on front tire, mud-guards attached ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Napier. —3lst January last, from a yard in Dickens Street, the property of HENRY FULFORD, 296 Hastings Street, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled free-wheel B.S A. bicycle, No. 16567, reversible handles, reinforced front forks, mud-guard on front wheel, new tires ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Hastings. Church in Hastings Street, the property of ROBERT DOUBLEDAY, Albert Street, a gentlemen’s blaok-enamelled bicycle, No. 296751, upturned handles with black grips, back-pedalling brake, mud-guards attached, three file-marks under cross-bar near head ; value, £4. Identifiable.

Wellington. 9th instant, from CHARLES EDWIN MAJOR’S bedroom at the Empire Hotel, a gentlemen’s slate-coloured Burberry overcoat, lined with greenish tartan material, chain hanger with a red tab with maker’s name on it; a pair of gold plain sleeve-links ; a whalebone military hair-brush, with a silver shield with “G.E.M.” on it; and a red razor-oase, with “ Manufactured by Walker & Hall ” on it: total value, £6 15s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —3rd instant, from a writing-desk in JOHN THOMSON’S bedroom at the Windsor Hotel, a gold tie-pin, with St. Andrew’s Cross on it; a pair of gold sleeve-links, torpedo-shaped at one end and flat at the other; fifty sovereigns; two £5 notes; a £1 note; and 6s. in silver money: total value, £63 6s. Identifiable except money.

Wellington.— 3oth January last, from the person of JAMES S. LEE, 17 Manchester Street, Petone, a gentlemen’s silver open-face Swiss watch with “J. G. Graves, Sheffield, Swiss make,” on dial, and “James S. Lee, Greenock,” on inside of case, gold hands ; a gold heavy curb double watch-chain, with a brass swivel at one end, with Chinese coin with a square in centre, and a metal fern-leaf

and “N.Z.” badge attached; a gold-mounted tiger’s claw tie-pin, set with a ruby, and has a small gold ball at end; a black-leather pocket-wallet, containing correspondence, &c. total value, £9. Identifiable.

Port Nelson. —On or about the sth January last from the wharf, the property of GEORGE NORMAN LATHAM KYNGDON, clerk, a gentlemen’s black-enamelled Raleigh bicycle, black grips, front-rim brake on right side (out of order), mud-guards attached (front one extends about 6 in. over top of wheel, back one rusty and turned up at end), Brooks saddle, spring on right side broken; value, £5. Identifiable.

Wakefield.— Between the 24th December and Ist January last, from GEORGE WILLIAM HALL’S dwelling at Brightwater, a gentlemen’s gold-filled Elgin watch (glass and second-hand missing), and a gold fetter-and-reef-knot watch-chain (similar to illustration No. 28 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 2), with a small greenstone book pendant, with “F.G.H.” on it, a gold star medal, and a silver sovereigncase attached: total value, £lO. Identifiable.

Hampden. Between 28th January last and the 6th instant, from a case while in transit between Wellington and Dunedin via Lyttelton, per s.s. “Tarawera,” the property of THOMAS R. LAING, bootmaker, three pairs of SOI SOI black box-calf leather-lined welted boots,'Nos. —, , and 6 ’ 8 301 -™, in blue ink on inside of uppers ; and three pairs of 335 335 black box-calf, cloth-lined machine boots, Nos. , , *6 8 335 and _ in blue ink on inside of uppers, sizes 6,8, and 9, with “ George Doughty & Co., manufacturers, Royalty,” inside a circle on each boot: total value, £6 17s. 3d. Identifiable.
