EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

(From Gazette, 1917, pages 790-792.) Regulations for Deer-shooting, Auckland. LIVERPOOL, Governor. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act ”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Auckland Acclimatization District, comprising the Counties of Rodney, Waitemata, Eden, Manukau, Franklin, Thames, Ohinemuri, Piako, Raglan, Waikato, Waipa, Kawhia, Awakino, Waitomo, and Ohura, and that part of each of the Counties of Matamata and West Taupo lying north of a right line extending south-westerly from the summit of Puwhenua Mountain, *at the easternmost corner of Matamata County, to the summit of Rangitoto Mountain, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. FALLOW-deer bucks may be taken or killed within the Auckland Acclimatization District from the 14th day of March, 1917, to the 31st day of May, 1917, both days inclusive. 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Auckland, and the Postmasters at Cambridge, Hamilton, Matamata, Morrinsville, Walton, Te Aroha, Thames, Paeroa,and Helensville, on payment of a license fee of £l, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. The number of such licenses shall not exceed thirty; provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than five bucks, and no buck shall be killed carrying antlers with less than four points. 4. No doe or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever, and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 6. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act ”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in that part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District comprised in the Mahia Peninsula which is in the said acclimatization district, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the abovementioned part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District from the 26th March, 1917, to the 26th April, 1917 (both days inclusive). 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Postmaster at Opoutama, on payment of a license fee of £3, in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. Provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than two stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. 4. Each licensee must give notice to the said Postmaster of the date on which it is his intention to stalk, such notice to be given two clear days before commencing to stalk. 5. No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever ; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 6. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 7. Regulations as to deer “ tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Vol. I, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused “tags” to the Postmaster at Opoutama immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags” have been issued, together with the number of deer shot. 8. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O. Schedule. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in that part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District comprised in the Counties of Rotorua and Whakatane, excluding therefrom the areas described in the First Schedule hereto, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the abovementioned part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District from the 26th March, 1917, to the 26th April, 1917, both days inclusive. 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Government Tourist Agent at Rotorua, on payment of a license fee of £3, in the form prescribed in the Second Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. The number of such licenses shall not exceed sixteen; provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than two stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than eight points. 4. Each licensee must give notice to the said Government Tourist Agent of the date on which it is his intention to stalk, such notice to be given two clear days before commencing to stalk. 5. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act ”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Southland Acclimatization District, exclusive of all sanctuaries, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red deer (stags only) may be taken or killed within the Southland Acclimatization District, exclusive of all sanctuaries, from the 15tli day of Maich. 1917, to the 15th day of May, 1917, both days inclusive. 2. Licenses to take or kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Invercargill on payment of a license fee of £4 45., in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations. The numbe • of m ch licenses shall not exceed six. provided that not more than one such license shall be issued to the same person. 3. No licensee shall take or kill more than two stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. 4. No hind or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever, and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. 6. Rotorua Acclimatization District comprised in the part of the County of Wairoa (excluding therefrom the Mahia Peninsula) which is in the said acclimatization district, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the abovementioned part of the Rotorua Acclimatization District from the 26th March, 1917, to the 26th April, 1917 (both days inclusive). 2. No licensee shall take or kill more than two stags, and no stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. 4. RESOLUTION

(From Gazette , 1917, pages 837 and 838.)

THE following regulations were laid before the members of the Wellington Racing Club at a meeting held on the 29th day of September, 1916, at Wellington, with a recommendation by the Chairman of the Club, Mr. John Bateman Harcourt, that the same be passed at once with a view to their approval by the Governor, in pursuance of the Gaming Act, 1908, section ,'53. Mr. J. B. Harcourt, the Chairman of Club and the meeting, moved, and Mr. Charles W. Tringham seconded, and it wag

resolved, that such regulations should be adopted, and that the Chairman be authorized to sign the same in authentication thereof. The following are the regulations referred to :

WELLINGTON RACING CLUB

Regulations. (Under the Gaming Act, 1908.)

In pursuance and exercise of the powers in that behalf contained in section .33 of the Gaming Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities it enabling in that behalf, the Wellington Racing Club, a racing club within the meaning of the said Act (hereinafter referred to as “the said club”), doth hereby make the following regulations controlling the admission of persons to that part of land situate in the District of Wellington, and known as the Trentham Racecourse, while the said racecourse is used or occupied by the said club for race meetings. 1. In these regulations the words “ bookmaker,” “ racing club,” and “ race meeting ” shall have the meanings ascribed to those terms by section 2 of the Gaming Act, 1908. 2. The following persons shall be and are hereby excluded from the racecourse above described while the same is used or occupied by the said club for a race meeting, namely : (a.) Bookmakers, or any clerk or agent or reputed clerk or agent employed by any bookmaker. (6.) All persons under disqualification inflicted by any racmg club in the Dominion of New Zealand, the Commonwealth of Australia, or elsewhere, if affiliated with the Racing Conference of New Zealand. (c.) Common prostitutes, and persons who habitually consort with reputed thieves or reputed prostitutes, or with persons who have no lawful visible means of support, within the meaning of the Police Offences Act, 1908, or any Act amending the same. The foregoing regulations of the Wellington Racing Club were made and passed by the Wellington Racmg Club on the twenty-ninth day of September, 1916, and signed by the Chairman and Secretary. J. B.
