Auckland. —14th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £3 10s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Daniel Egan, alias David Egan, age forty-one, height 5 ft. BJin., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, brown eyes, scar on right thumb and middle finger. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 674.)

Auckland.—loth instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Jane Oortessi, 38 Cook Street, Antonio Cortessi. age forty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., cook, native of Greece or Switzerland, medium buiid, dark complexion, black hair, dark-brown eyes, scars on top of head; gesticulating manner when in conversation. Auckland.—Bth instant, on warrant for deserting from the barque “ Senorita,” Waino Karvanen, age twentyfive, height 5 ft. 9 in., seaman, native of Finland, medium build, fair hair and complexion; dressed in a navy-blue suit.

Auckland. —Bth instant, on warrant for deserting from the barque “ Senoriia,” Wilfred Fryer, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., seaman, native of Australia, slight build, fair hair and complexion, hazel eyes ; dressed in a brown sac suit and soft-felt hat.

Waihi.— Eleanor Esther Mitchell, alias Robinson, default of balance of fine and costs : It has been ascertained by the Auckland police that offender left Auckland in company with her husband and children by the s.s. “Makura” for Sydney on the Ist instant. Hamilton.— Bth March last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £5 6s. fine and costs for obscene language, Henry Wilson, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes; usually dressed in a brown suit and cap.

Taumarunui.— 27th January last, that a notice cf fine for 78. 6d. for a breach of the by-laws may be served upon him, Thompson Paul, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., driver, native of New Zealand, slight build; smart appearance; a half-caste Maori.

Napier.—6th instant, on warrant for false pretences, Frank Anderson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about sft. 9 in., soldier, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair; dressed in the uniform of a private, and service cap. Accused obtained the sum of £lO from Blythe and Go. (Limited) by means of a valueless cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Taumarunui, purporting to be signed by David Anderson, whom he said was his father. He is identical with Frank Martin and F. Stayner, referred to in following paragraphs.

Napier.— 6th instant, for false pretences, Frank Martin, (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 9 in., soldier, medium build, fresh complexion, daik hair; dressed in the uniform of a private, and service cap. Accused obtained a grey-woollen sweater, two pairs of fawn knicker underpants, a fawn singlet, two pairs of brown socks, value £2 Bs., and £5 12s. in cash, from George Cox, clothier, by means of a valueless cheque for £8 on the Bank of New Zealand, Taumarunui. He is identical with Frank Anderson and F. Stayner, referred to in preceding and following paragraphs. No warrant.

Stayner (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 10in., soldier, medium build, fresh complexion ; dressed in the uniform of a private. Accused obtained a gentlemen’s 9ct. gold Bernstein double watch-chain, a rolled-gold, hunting keyless Elgin or Waltham watch, a rolled-gold sovereign-case, value £ll 55., and £1 in cash, from William Walling Brooks, by means of a valueless cheque for £ls on the Bank of New Zealand, Taumarunui. The balance (£2 155.) was retained by complainant until the cheque passed the bank; it was then to be forwarded to F. Stayner, H. Company 13th Reinforcements, Featherston. He is identical with Frank Anderson and Frank Martin, referred to in preceding paragraphs. No warrant.

Napier.— 9th instant, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for six months in default of paying £59 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, Florence Tyson, an inmate of Auckland Industrial School, James Henry Elliott Tyson, age forty-two, height 5 ft. in., labourer and butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, grey eyes. Arrears computed to sth May, 1913. (See Police Gazette , 1911, page 417.)

Wellington. —l3th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Turakina,” J. Glen, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 9£ in., steward, medium build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair and eyes, poekpitted on face.

Wellington.' —l3th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Turakina,” Richard Shanks, age twentythree, height 5 ft. 3 steward, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Wellington. —l3th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Turakina,” William Kemp, age thirty two, height 5 ft. 7 in., steward, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, two scars on forehead.

Wellington. —l3th March last, for failing to report to the police, John Sweet, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 9in., restaurant-keeper, native of Austria, fresh complexion, brown eyes. Offender, who is an alien enemy subject on parole, obtained a permit at Christchurch allowing him to travel to Wellington with instructions to report on arrival there, but he has failed to do so.

Wellington. —lsth instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Emma Annie Cooke, 6 Howe’s Lane, Albert Walter Cooke, age thirty six, height 5 ft. 7 in., steward, native of England, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, scar on one cheek ; flat footed ; walks with a jerky gait.

Wellington. —3lst March last, on warrant that he may be charged as an habitual inebriate with a view to his committal to an institution, Stanley GefTory Mathias, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., farm labourer and exsoldier, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion, grey eyes, scar on left middle finger. He is probably identical with John Stanley Mathias, referred to in Police Gazette, 1916, page 356. Complainant, Mrs. Mathias, 376 Durham Street, Christchurch North.

Christchurch.-9th December, 1915, on warrant for false pretences, George Maxwell, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 3 in., labourer and carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. Accused obtained the sum of £2O from Ernest George Rawnsley by falsely representing that he bad a crop of cocksfoot-grass seed on his farm at Pigeon Bay. He is identical with George Maxwell, alias Dittmar, alias Nelson, &c., referred to in Police Gazette , 1915, page 701. There are other charges pending.

Dunedin. —13th ultimo, that three summonses for breaches of the Railway By-laws may be served upon him, Francis McCluskey, alias Walter Palmer, age thirty-three, heightsft. 7^in., labourer and dealer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on nose.
