PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.- Between the 21st April and the 24th May last, on warrant for theft of £3O Bs., the property of the New Zealand Government (Native Land Board), Lionel Fitzherbert Williams (known as Son Williams), age thirty-eight, height about sft. 8 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair going bald, brown eyes, full face, thick Sips ; usually dressed in a light rough - tweed suit and green - felt hat or cap. Accused, who was cashier in the Native Land Court, received the amount on behalf of the Department and failed to account for it.

Auckland.— 29th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, George Richard Warren, age forty-three, height 6 ft., timber-grader, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, scar on back of left hand. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 209.)

Auckland. —11th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for one month in default of paying £7 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, John Ephraim Hedlund, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., cook and seaman, native of Sweden, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, anchor supposed on back of one hand ; speaks broken English.

Auckland.— 24th August last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, William Morgan, age about thirtythree, height about sft. Bin., labourer and butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and oomplexion, blue eyes, sharp features, tip of one forefinger missing ; usually wears riding - pants and leggings. Complainant, Ellen Morgan.

Auckland.— J. H. Johnson, obtaining credit by fraud : The handwriting of accused has been found identical with that of J. H. Wilson, referred to on page 491 of this Gazette. (See Police Gazette , 1915, page 641.)

Thames. —19th August last, on warrant of commitment to Thames Police-gaol for twenty-four hours in default of paying Bs. 6d. costs for drunkenness, Sydney Cox, age tbirty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., miner, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, bum-scar on left forearm.

Hamilton. —24th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle (recovered), value £l3, the property of Albert Park, Whatawhata, Daniel Barrett, alias Ross, age twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Hew Zealand, medium build, fair hair; usually dressed in a light-brown suit and cap ; respectable appearance. Accused hired the horse, saddle, and bridle to go to Ngaruawahia, where he sold them to Stanley Davis, hairdresser, for £2.

Waikino.—7th July last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for fourteen days in default of paying £1 6s. 6d. balance of fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, John Whaley Simpson, age about twentynine, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, slight build, sallow complexion, fair hair ; fond of drink.

Gisborne.— l4th July last, on warrant of commitment to Gisborne Prison for seven days in default of paying £3 18s. fine and costs for keeping unregistered dogs, Donald Gunn, age about thirty, height 6ft. 1 in., station hand, native of Scotland, good build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair, grey eyes.

Stratford.- 21st ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Bruce McDonald, alias C. Holmes, age about fifty, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Scotland, good build, fair complexion, fair hair turning grey; usually wears a fancy vest, light coat, and hard black hat, and may now be wearing a new gold Bernstein double watch-chain ; smart, respectable appearance ; fond of drink. Accused forged the name of W. Godkin to a cheque for £lO on the National Bank of New Zealand, and uttered it to Newton King, land agent. (See following paragraph.)

Hawera. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for false preteoces, Bruce McDonald, age fifty, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Scotland, good build, fresh complexion, grey hair, scar and slight swelling on left side of lower lip. He frequently plays a violin about hotels, and boasts of having been left a large sum of money. Accused obtained £3 from Thomas Harvie, hotelkeeper, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 on the Bank of New Zealand, Stratford. (See preceding paragraph.)

Hastings.— lßth August last, on warrant for forgery and uttering, C. Davidson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., supposed labourer, medium build, fair complexion, auburn hair. Accused forged the name of P. Cook to a cheque for £6 15s. on the Bank of New Zealand, Hastings, and uttered it to Prank Stephen Byrne, of Hallenstein Bros. (Limited). He is probably identical with H. Harding, referred to on page 416 of this Gazette.

Taihape. —27th ultimo, that a notice of fine for £1 3s. Bd. for a breach of the Railway By-laws may be served upon him, Henry Jackson, age about forty-two, height about sft. 10 in., native of Ireland, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, blue eyes ; a discharged soldier.

Wanganui. —9th August last, on two warrants of commitment to Auckland Prison for (1) thirty days in default of paying £8 Is., and (2) thirty days in default of paying £6 Is., arrears due on maintenance orders for the support of his two illegitimate children, Lewis Thomas Grant, age thirty-six, height sft. 10in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair parted in centre, grey eyes; smart appearance. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 610.)

Wellington. — 3oth August last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for threatening behaviour, Morton Read, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, pale complex'on, brown hair, hazel eyes; clasped hands, heart, and hand holding rose on right forearm.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, that he may be compelled to pay £22 Is. 6d. arrears of maintenance due for the support of his two children, inmates of the Wellington Receiving Home, Thomas Hargreaves, age fifty, height sft. sin., labourer and flax-mill band, stout build, tanned complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, right arm deformed. Inquiry is at the instance of the Education Department. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 402.)

Hokitika. —2sth November, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Greymouth Prison for seven days in default of paying 16s. balance of fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Daniel Mullin, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, wavy black hair, hazel eyes.

Christchurch. —22nd June last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Alfred Saggers, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., gardener, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, black hair, blue eyes, broken nose, two prominent upper teeth, scars on right fingers.

Christchurch.—26th ultimo, that he may be compelled to pay £72 2s. arrears of maintenance due for the support of his two children, inmates of the Christchurch Receiving Home, Richard Aicken Glover, age about forty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., canvasser, native of New Zealand, good build, dark-brown hair, bow legs. He was last heard of at Rakaia in 1909. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 378.)
