PERSONS WANTED.
Auckland. —2oth July last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for assault, Charles McGeahan, alias Johnston, alias Graham, alias Campbell, age forty-five, height 5 ft. in., labourer and seaman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, light-brown eyes, prominent lower lip. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 545, and Photographs, 1913, page 10.)
Auckland. maintain his wife, Thomas Henry Hartigan, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, slim build, tanned complexion, black hair turning grey, no upper teeth, bow legs, “ T.H.” on left forearm ; slouching gait. Complainant, Edith Annie Hartigan, Ponsonby.
Auckland. —W. Groll’s yacht stolen. A warrant has now been issued for the arrest of W. or Henry Tarawhiti, alias Henry Davis. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 492.)
Auckland. maintain his wife and two children, William Jessen, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., contractor, native of Denmark, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, scar below right ear. Complainant, Adelaide Jessen, 80 Howe Street.
Auckland.— 2lst July last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £7 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, George Cullum, age forty-nine, height 5 ft. 8 in., driver, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 313.)
Auckland. —2Bth February last, that she may be compelled to pay £1 19s. Bd. arrears due for the support of her daughter, an inmate of the Wellington Receiving Home, Amy Grace Turner, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 2 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair ; quiet disposition ; pleasant appearance. She may now be married to Sidney Godfrey. Inquiry by the Education Department, Wellington.
Auckland. —25th June, 1914, that she may be compelled to maintain her two children, inmates of the Auckland Industrial School, Rachael Smith, alias Lily Casey, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., prostitute, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, large nose. She may be found in company with Charles Armstrong, referred to in Police Gazette, 1913, page 731. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 310.)
Auckland. —2oth ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Niwaru,” Richard Whiting, age thirty, height sft. Bin., trimmer, native of England, thin build, fair hair and complexion, irregular teeth. He is also wanted for stealing a quantity of boots from the ship. (See following paragraph.)
Auckland.— 2oth ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Niwaru,” Theodore Buytdaert, age twentyfive, height 5 ft. 7in., A. 8., native of Belgium, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes; speaks broken English. He is also wanted for stealing a quantity of boots from the ship. (See preceding paragraph.)
Newton. —27th July last, that a summons may be served upon her for helpless drunkenness, Eliza Agnes Milligan, alias Monaghan, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., domestic, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair; shabbily dressed.
Waiuku. —16th June laßt, on warrant for theft of a cheque, value £3 Is. 3d., the property of the Waikato Farmers’ Co-operative Bacon Company (Limited), Frankton Junction, William Webster, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and farmer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes.
Waihi. —l9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying; £25 10s. fine and oosts for illegally keeping liquor for sale, John Tobin, age about twenty-nine, height about sft. 6£in., labourer and miner, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue bloodshot eyes, large mouth, good teeth, pimples on face ; swings his arms when walking.
Hamilton. —Between the 19th and 26th July last, on warrant for theft of £1 25., the property of his employer, Gustav Henry Kuhtz, Matamata, Duncan Walker, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes.
Hamilton. —31st March last, that he may be compelled to maintain his children, inmates of the Wellington Receiving Home, John McConkey, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes; fond of drink. Inquiry by the Education Department, Wellington. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 231.)
Huntly. —On or about the 18th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle (recovered), value £2l 7s. 6d., the property of Frederick Friendship, Matthew Cox, age twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue or grey eyes, sharp features, decayed teeth, protruding chin ; usually dressed in a browntweed suit and brown soft-felt hat; quiet manner ; fond of drink.
Te Kuiti. —On or about the 15th June last, on warrant for false pretences, Arthur Osborne Cox, age twentyone, height 5 ft. 8 in., sallow complexion. Accused obtained £6 from Thomas Sowersby, Kopaki, by falsely representing that a horse which he sold to complainant was his own property. He left the Dominion with the 6th Reinforcements.
Napier. —lst ultimo, that a summons may be served upon him for failing to maintain his step-son, Percy Neal, an inmate of the Weraroa Industrial School, Cornelius Downing, age about forty-eight, height about sft. 6 in., labourer and ex-jockey, native of Ireland, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, long nose ; slovenly appearance ; frequents billiard-rooms. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 521.)
Hawera. —7th July last, on warrant of commitment to New Plymouth Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for drunkenness. William
McElwain, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and groom, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 231.)
Hastings. —sth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for two months in default of paying £lO 10s. fine and costs for supplying liquor to a prohibited person, Patrick Dillon, age thirty - seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and miner, native of Tasmania, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; husky voice. There is a notice of fine for accused which is to be served upon him before the warrant is executed.
Hastings. —2oth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 3s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Robert Wilson, age forty, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, no front teeth. He may be identical with Robert Wilson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1913, page 509.
Petone.— l4th June last, on warrant of commitment to Alexandra Barracks for three days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, William Henry Tancred, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, freckled face. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 304.)
Wellington. —l6th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Eva Zola, age sixty-eight, height sft. 4in., palmist, native of England strong build, sallow complexion, grey hair, blue eyes.
Wellington. —2sth July, 1913, that a summons may be served upon her for failing to maintain her four children, Cecilia Ryan, age twenty-two, height 5 ft., waitress, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 200.)
Blenheim. —2oth ultimo, on warrant for attempting to leave New Zealand with the intention of failing to maintain his wife and five children, Leonard Henry Satherley, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and flax-miller, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar over left eye. He is accompanied by Doris Neal, age about seventeen, height 5 ft. sin., medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark-grey eyes ; dressed in a brown-tweed costume and black-velvet hat with a pink feather in it. She has assumed the name Mead. Complainant, Florence Edith Satherley, Marshlands.
Blenheim. —3rd July last, on warrant for theft of rugs and groceries, value £1 7s. 6d., the property of the New Zealand Government (Public Works Department), Abram Jones, aged twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in dungaree trousers and navy-blue coat. He may be accompanied by Albert Green, referred to in following paragraph.
Blenheim.— 3rd July last, on warrant for theft of groceries and cooking utensils, value £2 19s. lid., the property of the New Zealand Government (Public Works Department), Albert Green, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and driver, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a navy-blue-serge suit and black soft-felt hat. He may be accompanied by Abram Jones, referred to in preceding paragraph.
Annat. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Frederick Schmidt, age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 5 in., bricklayer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, prominent front teeth (one missing). Complainant, Nellie Ward, Darfield.
Christchurch. — Robert Hardie, failing to maintain : It has now been ascertained that his age is about forty, and that he has brown eyes and a dark moustache. He is a good organist, and suffers from St. Vitus dance. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 554.)
Christchurch.—6th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Hubert Broderick, age fifty, height 6ft., native of Ireland, medium build, fair complexion, grey hair, blue-grey eyes; usually dressed in a light-grey sporting-suit, dark-tweed cap, and light mackintosh. Complainant, Christina Saville, 271 Cambridge Terrace.
Temuka.—23rd ultimo, on warrant for failing to make provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Ferguson J. O’Connor, age about twentynine, height about 6 ft., labourer and canvasser, native of America, good build, ruddy complexion, dark hair (going bald), grey eyes, He may endeavour to leave the Dominion. Complainant, Julia Lynch, Dyson Street.
Invercargill.— John Ritchie, failing to maintain. It has been ascertained by the Invercargill police that accused joined the Australian Expeditionary Force, and is now at the Dardanelles. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 584.)
