PROPERTY STOLEN.
Auckland. —JAMES VUGLER’S dwelling broken into : The lady’s heavy gold ring, set with three sapphires and eight or nine diamonds, has been recovered by the Auckland police. Suspicion is attached to George Ward (name probably fictitious), age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 4 in., medium build, dark complexion, black hair turning grey, heavy grey moustache ; dressed in a dark-grey suit, celluloid collar, and hard hat ; respectable appearance. The name and description given is that of the man who pledged the ring at Mendelssohn’s pawn-office, Auckland. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 762.)
Auckland.- GEORGE JOHN MARSHALL’S purse, &c., stolen : The purse, pawn-ticket, and ring have been recovered by the Auckland police. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 779.)
Auckland.— EDWAßD RAYNEY JACKSON’S watch and chain, &c., stolen: It has been ascertained by the Auckland police that the number of the watch is 370207. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 589.)
Wellington. —Between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the 4th instant the dwelling of MARSHALL JOHN DONNELLY, 104 Oriental Parade, was broken into, and the following articles stolen: Two gold expansion wristlet watches, similar to illustration No. 5 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 1; two “ Nellie Stuart ” gold bangles ; a child’s “Nellie Stuart ” gold bangle; a gold wristlet watch in leather guard-strap; a gold bar brooch, set with three olivines ; a blue-enamel bird brooch ; a blue-enamel brooch consisting of three birds; a green ring brooch with bird in centre ; a small gold locket with a photograph of the King and Queen in it; a rolledgold wire brooch, with “Daisy” on it; a 9 ct. gold band ring ; a silver band ring ; a ring set with an opal; a plain gold keeper-ring ; a flat gold band ring, set with an imitation diamond ; and a pair of imitation diamond earrings, three drop : total value, £29 ss. Identifiable.
Masterton. —ROßEßT RUSSELL’S shop broken into: Suspicion is now attached to Patrick Lee. Description : age seventeen, height about sft. 4 in M labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark hair and complexion, upper front teeth decayed; usually dressed in a dark kniokerbocker suit; smiling face. If possible, his finger-prints should be taken, as he may have committed the offence at MESSRS. BEALE AND CO.’S, referred to in Police Gazette, 1914, page 576. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 549.)
Wellington. —llth instant, from a bedroom at the Windsor Hotel, the property of TREVOR LANE, a gentleman’s silver hunting Rotherhams watch; a gentleman’s 9 ct. double gold chain, very light fetter and three-oval pattern ; a black morocco leather pocketbook ; a “ Traveller’s ” firstclass North Island railway pass, “T. Lane” inside; and about 7s. in silver : total value, £5 15s. Identifiable except money.
Granity.— 9th ultimo, from a hut, the property of MARTIN SUND, miner, two Bank of New Zealand notes for £5 and £1 respectively, a half-sovereign, and 7s. 6d. in silver; a pawn-ticket for a gold watch which was pawned at Walter Smart’s, Willis Street, Wellington, on the 14th July, 1914; and naturalization papers tied up in a handkerchief with green border. Papers only identifiable.
Christchurch. —On or about the 30th ultimo, from a shed at the rear of Brooke’s stables at Upper Riccarton, the property of HORACE MANTON CLARK, 97 Bristol Street, St. Albans, a gentleman’s Pearce bicycle, No. 65668, fixed wheel, red tire on front wheel, Westwood rims; value, £7. Identifiable.
Btngsland. — On or about the sth instant, from the dwelling of OWEN McENTEE, farmer, 48 Westenra Street, Wallington, a pair of gentleman’s black boots, nearly new, and a stick of Juno tobacco ; total value, 19s. 6d. Boots identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Walter Haynes (name probably fictitious), age forty-eight, height about 5 ft. 6in", gardener, thick build, florid complexion, small fair moustache, blue eyes ; a swagger. He is supposed to reside in Blenheim.
Glenavy.— About 14th ultimo, from a paddock, the property of MICHAEL HARVEY, farmer, a yearling bright bay draught colt, white hind legs, white star on forehead ; value, £lO. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —27th ultimo, from the Y.M.C.A. Buildings, the property of EDWIN ALEXANDER GUTHRIE, engineer, a gentleman’s Velox bicycle, free wheel, wide straight handles with black grips, rat-trap pedals ; value, £6. Identifiable.
Dunedin. — 25th ultimo, from outside the Provincial Hotel in Stafford Street, the property of WILLIAM JOHN ECCLES, railway surfaceman, 15 Waverley Street, a gentleman’s Osmond bicycle, fixed wheel, upturned handles, cork grips (one missing), no brakes, small hole in front of saddle ; value, £3. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —22nd ultimo, from outside J. E. Watson’s premises in Station Street, the property of WILLIAM PATRICK ORMOND, salesman, a gentleman’s MasseyHarris bicycle, celluloid mud-guards (one new), front roller bra*ke, rat-trap expanding pedals; value, £B. Identifiable.
South Dunedin.— lst ultimo, from the foreshore at Kensington, the property of GEORGE BARR, railway employee, 16 Grosvenor Street, a bay gelding, aged, about 15.1, small white star on forehead, shod all round, and a horse-cover ; total value, £B. Identifiable.
Arrowtown. —Between 2 p.m. and 7 pm. on the 12th ultimo the dwelling of DANIEL SHANASHAN, miner, was broken into, and the following stolen : Pour £5 notes, four £1 notes, twenty-five sovereigns, a half-sovereign, 16s. in silver, and an American gold five-dollar-piece; total value, £sl 6s. Five-dollar-piece supposed identifiable.
