PROPERTY STOLEN.
Auckland. —On the 18th ultimo, between 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. the dwelling of JAMES VUGLER, schoolteacher, 63 Grange Road, was broken into, and the following articles stolen: A lady’s long gold muff-chain, similar to illustration No. 37 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 3, with a heart-shaped locket set with three diamonds attached, one diamond missing; a gold chain necklet, with an oval gold locket attached, obntaining a lock of hair and a photograph of an elderly gentleman ; a lady’s gold half-hoop ring, set with five diamonds, similar to illustration No. 75 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 6; a lady’s gold ring, crown-set with three small diamonds ; a lady’s heavy gold ring, crown-set with three sapphires and eight or nine diamond chips; a gold cable bangle; a gentleman’s gold band ring, with “ M.W.” thereon; a gold crescent brooch, set with pearls and turquoises in the shape of a flower ; a pair of goldmounted earrings, set with turquoises; and a pair of gold links, with “J.V.” thereon: total value, £39. Initialed articles identifiable, remainder supposed identifiable.
Auckland. —Between 1 p.m. on tbe 14th and 8 a.m. on the 16th ultimo the premises of JACOB BARRIPP, fancygoods dealer, 209 Queen Street, were broken into, and the following articles stolen : Two gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting keyless watches, Dennison, maker, ten-year guarantee, in case ; value £3 10s. Identifiable.
Auckland. —Between the 3rd February and the 2nd June last, from complainant’s dwelling in Grey Street, the property of BARON DEVOLEY, curio-dealer, a gentleman’s black double-breasted overcoat, containing an 1.0. U. for £5, signed “J. Albert”; a dark-cloth overcoat with a velvet collar; a Boer War picture, 2J ft. by 3J ft., thirteen fancy flax kitß; a silver specimen ; seven stingaree-tails; and a Tahiti cane hat: total value, £lO 17s. Suspicion is attached to James Turmell, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of France, medium build, sallow complexion, black hair, brown eyes; “ AT + ,” anohor, “ L.F.A.” ; and “ L.T. ” on left wrist; half-moon on left hand. Auckland. —Between 10.45 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the 4th ultimo the dwelling of I’HOMAS WINGFIELD, indent agent, Ranfurly Road, Epsom, was broken into, and the following articles stolen: A silver card case, 4% in. by 2Jin., “ J.E.W.” on outside, silver chain attached ; and a gold bar brooch, set with an amethyst: total value, £4. Identifiable.
Newton. —6th ultimo, from complainant’s motor-car, the property of WILLIAM A. GORDON, architect, “ King’s Court,” Queen Street, a light-fawn overcoat with brown lining ; value, £3 15s. Identifiable.
Newmarket. —Between 26th October last and 10th ultimo, from a the dwelling of MARY GARRARD, Epsom, a lady’s gold cable bangle with a small gold heart attached ; a lady’s gold engagement ring, set with a diamond between two sapphires ; and a lady’s gold dress-ring, set with seven pearls : total value, £ll 10s. Identifiable.
Kirikiriroa. —29th October last, from a dwelling in Von Tempsky Street, a silver open-face keyless Swiss watch, “ F. E. Webb ” scratched inside of black case, second-hand missing, dent in case; a 9ct. gold single curb chain (a rolled-gold link near bar) with a gold mounted greenstone pendant and a silver shield-shaped medal attached; total value, £5 ss; identifiable; the property of FRED WEBB; a gold-mounted greenstone bar brooch; value, £1 55.; identifiable; the property of PHYLLIS FITZWILLIAMS : and £1 in money, the property of CHARLOTTE FITZWILLIAMS. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, dark hair ; dressed in a dark suit and hard black hat.
Wellington. —22nd October last, from Banks’s Commercial College, the property of LEONARD MAXWELL MORRISON, 46 Ann Street, Roslyn, Dunedin, a gentleman’s black-enamelled Royal bicycle, No. 39354, 22 in. frame, upturned handles with black-and-white grips, back-pedal and front-rim brakes ; value, £4. Identifiable.
Amberley.— 9th ultimo, from a dwelling at Brackenfield, £3 12s. 6d. in money; a rolled-gold Bernstein watch-chain, with a silver sovereign-case and gold medal attached (there is a gold cross on the medal with “ H.G.S.C., 1913,” thereon); and a black beaver hat; identifiable except money ; the property of HUGH GORRIE : £3 14s. 6d. in money, and a leather wallet, the property of LESLIE GEORGE FLEMMING : a gold curb watch-chain ; a silver sovereigncase with “M.R.” on it ; a gold medal, with “A.M.F.C., won by M. Raaff, 1911,” on it; and a white-handled razor; total value, £7 ss. : identifiable ; the property of MATTHEW NICHOLAS RAAFF: total value, £l9 3s. Suspicion is attached to George Styles, alias R. Reed, age twentytwo, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark sallow coinplexion, dark curly hair, a front tooth missing ; dressed in a soft shirt, browish-grey trousers, navy-blue coat and vest, and black beaver hat. Kaiapoi.-- -About 14th ultimo, from the back of Brown’s boardinghouse, High Street, the property of ALBERT GARDINER, a gentleman’s black-enamelled bicycle, reversible handles with no grips, back mud guard fastened with copper wire, tool-bag and pump attached to the saddle ; value, £5. Identifiable.
Christchurch. —10th October last, from outside the Queen’s Theatre, Etereford Street, the property of EDWIN McCANN, 35, Victoria Street, a gentleman’s blackenamelled Imperial Swift bicycle, No. 7372, upturned handles, steel pedals and rims ; value, £B. Identifiable.
Christchurch. —17th ultimo, from the Tepid Baths, Manchester Street, the property of OLGA WACKED, a lady’s free-wheel Star bicycle, No. 74087 and 21094, black grips, two brakes, rubber pedals; value, £7 10s. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —7th ultimo, from a shed at the rear of 32 St. David Street, the property of MARGARET ANDERSON, 444 Leith Street, a boy’s Nero bicycle, No. 43970, upturned handles, free wheel, no mud-guards, the property of complainant’s son ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —23rd October last, from the bicycle-room at the engine-sheds, Anderson’s Bay, the property of JOHN GILCHRIST DARLING, a gentleman’s black-enamelied bicycle, free wheel, new Oceanic tire on front wheel, new Dunlop tire on back wheel, straight rusty handles ; value, £4. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —14th ultimo, from outside the Public Baths, the property of SAMUEL SCOLES PLUMB, a gentleman’s black enammelled bicycle, celluloid mud-guards, rat-trap pedals, upturned handles with tan-leather grips, free wheel; value, £3 10s. Identifiable,
Dunedin. —St. Leonard’s Presbyterian Church broken into: William Morgan and William Guyton were charged with this offence by the Dunedin police. The stolen propertv has not been recovered. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 658.) (C.R. 14/14.)
