PERSONS WANTED.

Kaikohe. —3rd instant, on -warrant for theft of £65 14s. 2d., consisting of thirteen £5 notes, a half-sovereign, two 2s. pieces, and two pennies, the money of Simon de Silvia, boardinghouse-keeper, W. Lewis, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of Ireland, medium build, sallow complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in dark suit and darkgreen coloured felt hat and tan boots. Complainant gave offender the money to keep for him while he had a bath, and on his return found he had gone and taken the money with him.

Auckland.—26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide his wife, Sarah Kidd, with adequate means of support, Henry Kidd, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. B£in., fireman and sailor, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh com-

plexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes; addioted to drink, and, if ashore, will frequent waterside hotels. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney.

Auckland. —Ist February last, that a copy of order may be served on him for the maintenance of his wife, Arthur Frederick Neale, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 5 in., jockey and horse-trainer, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, black curly hair, large nose with scar on bridge ; usually wears navy-blue suit and hard black hat.

Auckland.—2oth ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the maintenance of his wife, Joseph Hewson, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., rough carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, black hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved, slight impediment in speech when excited, walks very erect; dresses well. He is supposed to have gone to Bydnev. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s Office, Auckland. On the 19th ultimo he was in arrears £7 17s. 6d. Mercer.—29th or 30th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle, value £1 9s. (recovered), and a stockwhip, value 55., the property of Philip George Wyman, farmer, John 'Williams, alias Marshall, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, dark complexion, round face, heavy brown moustache turning grey, stoops when walking ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, fancy vest with white dots, hard black-felt hat, light-grey overcoat. The horse was sold to J. H. Millar, livery-stable keeper, Ngaruawahia, for £9, and the saddle and bridle left at the Taupiri Hotel by the offender, who took the train at Taupiri at 9 p.m. on the Ist instant for Frankton Junction.

Morrinsville.— Charles Hart, wanted on warrant for forgery : Offender’s correct height is 5 ft. 3 in., not 5 ft. 9 in., as stated fn former report. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 246.) He was last seen in Auckland, and stopped at the Shamrock Hotel on the night of the 24th ultimo.

Whakatane.— l2th March last, on warrant of commitment to Auokland Prison for two months in default of paying £ll Is. 6d. fine and costs for supplying Maoris with liquor for consumption off licensed premises, George Callighan, age about forty, height 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., labourer, when last seen had a full dark beard, and was dressed in dark suit and slouch hat. He is supposed to be working somewhere between Opidiki and Gisborne.

Napier. —4th March last, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for two months in default of paying £lO 10s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Joseph Farrell, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8J in., seaman, native of Tasmania, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, large nose. (See Police Gazette , 1911, page 160.)

Napier. —l 7th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered) the property of Samuel Heath, barman, W. F. Thomas, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 5 in., ship’s cook, native of New Zealand, well built, cleanshaved, brown hair; was wearing a light-ooloured vest with green stripes, dark coat and trousers, and hard black hat ; addicted to drink. His correct name is said to be Alfred Frederick Thomas, and that he was recently employed as cook on the s.s. “ Whangape.”

Napier. —lsth March last, on warrant for obtaining £5 from George Kelly by false pretences, Hamiore Mohi, age forty, height sft. Bin., labourer, dark moustache (waxed at ends), peculiar eyes, probably identical with Hame Nireha, wanted for false pretences. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 204.) The suspect Tuehu Pomare, alias Williams, was arrested for the above offence at Gisborne and remanded to Napier, where it was found that he was not identical with Hamiore Mohi. Tueha Pomare stated that he was with a Native named Matane te Whiwhi, of Karioi, in Palmerston North on the day a similar offence was committed there, and that he answers the description given of Hame Nireha and of Hamiore Mohi. (See Police Gazette, 1912, pages 204 and 230.)

Napier. —lsth March last, on warrant for obtaining £7 from Henry Robson Wood by false pretences, Hamiore Mohi (for description see preceding paragraph). Offender is no doubt identical with Hame Nireha, wanted for a similar offence. (See Police Gazette, 1912, pages 204 and 230.)

Taumarunui. —17th ultimo, on warrants of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £3 4s. 4d. fine and costs for playing two-up, and one month for obstructing police, Alfred Nicholls, age thirty-three (not twenty-three as previously shown), height 6 ft. OJin., bushman and labourer and spieler, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes, large nose, right arm and hand have been broken. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 86, and 1912, page 246.)

Wanganui. —27th ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, George Allan, alias George Richardson, age thirty, height 5 ft. 9f in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair inclined to curl, olean-shaved, (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 218.) Offender obtained a blank cheque from McKenzie Forbes, hotelkeeper, Wanganui, and filled it in for £l2 10s., and signed it W. F. Moßeth in favour of E. Raynor. He issued it to George and Kersley, drapers, Wanganui, in payment for goods, and received a balance of £ll 7s. 3d. He worked for Mcßeth some \ears ago, and was acquainted with Raynor, who trains horses for Mcßeth.

Wellington. —4th instant, for deserting from the Royal New Zealand Artillery, Richard Oscar Harland, age twenty-three, height sft. 10 in., painter, native of Christchurch, New Zealand, dark complexion, brown eyes, darkbrown hair, mole on abdomen, broad round head and face, sullen obstinate manner. He is supposed to have left by the s.s. “Moeraki,” as one of the crew for Sydney. Arrest outside the Dominion not desired. (P. 12/845.)

Wellington. —6th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 for assaulting his wife, George Williams, age twentyseven, height 5 ft. 5 in., driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes.

Wellington.— 6th instant, on warrants for deserting the s.s. “ Kia Ora,” George Mills, age twenty-five, height 6 ft. 0J in., seaman, native of England, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes. A. Jennings, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., fireman, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, wheel tattooed on right hand. A reward of £2 will be paid for the apprehension of each.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for assaulting Thomas Kelly, a police constable, while in the execution of his duty, W. Ishmail, age thirty, height 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in., trimmer, native of England, sallow complexion, black hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache. Offender when being placed on board the s.s. “ Hurunui ” assaulted the constable and ran away.

Wellington.-— 4th instant, on warrants for deserting from the s.s. “Karamea,” Denis‘Loftus, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 5f in., fireman, medium build, brown hair, blue eyes, clasped hands and flags on both arms. James Loftus, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, medium build, fair moustache, grey eyes. A reward of £2 will be paid for the apprehension of each.

Dunollie. —29th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £3 3s. fine and costs for abusive language on the railway train, Richard Arbuckle, age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., ooai-miner, native of Australia, ruddy complexion, hard features, brown hair and moustache turning grey, blue eyes, stoops when walking, slight build, has recently received an injury to his right foot; usually wears a brown suit and hard black hat. He left Wellington for Sydney on the 26th ultimo in company with Charles Thomas, a cripple on crutches.

Christchurch. - 12th ultimo, for disobeying the terms of his release on probation, James Robertson Crowley, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 4Jin., professional golf-player, native of Glasgow, Scotland, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, large hooked nose. Speaks with a broad Scotch accent. He was convicted of breaking and entering and placed on probation on the 12bh February last and ordered to pay costs of prosecution. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 129.) He was working for Hood and Clements, golf-club manufacturers, and cleared away without reporting himself. He said that he was going to Dunedin.

Christchurch. — Alfred Harris, wanted on warrant for theft, was seen at Westport last Christmas. He is now said to have a flower-pot, pierced heart, and “ Minnie ” tattooed on his arms. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 372, and 1911, page 400.)

Christchurch. —4th instant, that a warrant of distress for 16s. 6d. may be executed on him, William Herdman, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., late railway-crossing keeper, native of Lancashire, England, slight build, fair complexion, black hair, brown eyes, fair moustache only. His left arm has been amputated, and his right arm broken. He has a brother in Palmerston North and a sister, Mrs. G. E. Martin, in Gisborne, and a brother in the Gisborne district. Lyttelton.— 6th instant, on warrants for deserting from the s.s. 11 Karamea,” Joseph McLean, age twentynine, height 5 ft. BJin., fireman, native of England, stout build, pale complexion, brown hair and eyes, fair moustache, full face; dressed in black-serge suit and cap. Henry Forrester, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 6fin., trimmer, native of England, medium build, pale complexion, lightbrown hair, grey eyes. A reward of £2 will be paid for the apprehension of each.

Timaru. —30th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s dark-coloured double-breasted overcoat, with broad white stripe running through it, “ Chapman Bros., 372, High Street, Stratford,” on back of collar, value £2 155., the property of Horace George Tebbsy, third cook of s.s. “ Rimutaka,” Charles Thomas Matthews, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. Sin., steward and cook, native of England, brown eyes and hair, dark complexion, clean-shaved, coat of arms on chest. Offender was employed as second cook on the s.s. 11 Rimutaka,” and deserted on the above date, taking the coat with him.

Invercargill.— 9th March last, for theft of a gentlemen’s King Dick bicycle, the property of John Stewart, storeman,

value £lO (recovered), N. Johnson (name supposed fictitious), age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., supposed labourer, slight build, dark hair and complexion ; well dressed. The bicycle was removed from McKay’s Saleyard, Esk Street, on above date, and was sold by the abovedescribed man on the same day to Nigel Bray, auctioneer, Invercargill, for £1 15s. No warrant issued.

Bluff. —9th instant, on warrant for failing to provide his wife, Louisa Burtinshaw, and children with means of support. James Burtinshaw, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair, blue eyes, roundshouldered, somewhat bandy-legged. He deserted his wife about six years ago, and is said to be accompanied by a woman named Fanny Bigwood, who has three children with her. She is described as being of short stature, dark complexion, dark hair and eyes. Special inquiries are desired.

Bluff. — John Percy Truelove and James Smith, wanted on warrants for ship-desertion: The rewards offered for their apprehension have been withdrawn. (See Police Gazete, 1912, page 246.)
