INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney. —A warrant has been issued by the Water Police Bench for the arrest of Benjamin Ernest Farrow, charged with forging a cheque for £3O, purporting to be signed by S. E. Bailey, and on or about the 11th February, 1910, uttered the same to a clerk in the Bank of Australasia, at Sydney. Offender is about twenty-three years of age, sft. 11 in. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, clean-shaved, limps on one leg ; generally wears dark clothes and dark hard hat ; recently from England; a clerk, but may take up photography. Several charges of forgery pending. Photograph filed in the Commissioner’s Office, Wellington. Arrest desired. (10/695.)

Broadmeadow (New South Wales).— A warrant has been issued by the Newcastle Bench for the arrest of Hamilton Chambers Reid, charged with disobeying a summons for child-desertion. He is about thirty-six years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, thin build, round shoulders, dark complexion, dark hair (very thin and mixed with grey), darkbrown moustache only, dark eyes, left eye protrudes ; has a habit of looking down when speaking; one tooth missing from right side of upper jaw ; usually dressed in a darktweed striped suit, red or black tie, and black hard hat; an engine-fitter and marine engineer ; may go to New Zealand. England. —lnquiry requested for John and William Hetherington, who came to New Zealand from West Allendale, Northumberland, when they were young men. John wrote to his sister Ann in 1883, and gave his address as Post-offiee, Auckland. He is described as a lead-miner,

and to have taken on Government railway contracts, brown hair, grey eyes, age about sixty-nine, a bachelor. William is about sixty-eight years of age, brown eyes, dark complexion, was married, and had a large family, one ■of them said to be a doctor and another a schoolmistress. Their cousin, John Thomas Hetherington, farmer, Te Puke, has not heard of them being in New Zealand, and no trace of them can so far be obtained. (09/2320.)

He left England by the ss. “ Arawa” onlblue 24pi July, 1909, for Wellington, and had a bank draft 10/c the Bank of New Zealand. He was expehtej to go ter the Labour Bureau, Wellington, but letters we retwMreTifrom there marked “ Unclaimed.” A letter was received from him post-marked Hobart, and dated about 7th September, 1909. Spooner, alias Anderson, alias Jackson, age fortyseven, height sft. 4in., stout build, labourer, had been in the navy, left-handed, left thumb bad been dislocated, florid complexion, large auburn moustache, tattooed on both arms, designs—woman, flowers, and a tombstone with “ S. W.” underneath. He was living at Stepney Green, London, before leaving for New Zealand, and was last heard of on 18th October, 1906. His address then was Wellington Postoffice.
