INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney. —A warrant has been issued by the Water Police Bench for the arrest of George Newman, charged with wife-desertion. He is thirty-eighc years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in. high, slight build, dark complexion, black hair, clean-shaved, two teeth missing from front upper jaw ; dressed in grey clothes and Panama or black hard hat; a ladies’ tailor. Supposed to have gone to New Zealand or Queensland. Complainant, Emily Newman, 252 Forbes Street, Darlinghurst. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1910, page 85.)

Sydney. —Stolen, on the 4th instant, from York House, Sydney, during the progress of a fire, the property of Robert Barber, a child’s money-box, containing about £2 10s. Bd. in threepenny-pieces and coppers; one large white fox-skin boa and muff, lined with white satin ; a brown real sable fur necklet; four stone-brown sable-skins; two white marten-skin muffs, consisting each of two skins, and lined with brown satin; four stone-coloured marten skins; and some small Chinese ivory figures : total value, about £l2O. Identifiable, except money. Also, the property of Harry H. Hall, a 9 cb. gold bracelet, set with red stones, filigreework around edges, stamped “ R. 9c. 875 ” inside, chain attached ; six silver pin-trays; two manicure sets ; two electroplated butcer-knives ; two jam-spoons, in case ; about twelve pocket-knives, stag-horn handles; and about 15s. 3d. in money : total value, £6. Identifiable, except money. Also, the property of Norman Baker, two dozen dummy foun-tain-pens ; two steel stocks ; two black fountain-pens, one branded “ Onoto,” the other “ Stuart ” ; 4s. in stamps ; and 10s. 3d. in money : total value, £2 10s. Adelaide. — Warrants have been issued for W. Anderson, described as about forty-five to fifty years of age, about 5 ft. 11 in. high, very stout build, corpulent, about 16 st. weight, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved; point of one middle finger missing, ring-finger of right hand crooked at first joint, speaks as if educated, wore black BeaufdJl jepaUwhich hard Mapt hat, or a Pansfaffer: ofci&m February, 1910, h»-$d feloniously forge the name of Kennon and Sons tC Bank of Adfclafjle, for thrrpa^^«mmF£TW^^tr^^uttgiFltie s&me/lfqpE d\vwk Mayfield,>mrniture-warehousaman, at A'delaide, with intent, to defraud. Offender ordered several articles of furniture to be sent from complainant’s warehouse to an address in one of the suburbs. He paid by aforesaid cheque, and received the balance in cash. There are several similar charges pending against him. He also obtained from Joseph Maly, jeweller, a half-hoop diamond ring (not recovered), value £7. He was last seen in Adelaide on the 19th February last. Offender is identical with Francis E. B. Elliott, alias James Beattie, alias Curtis, alms King, &c., sentenced at Brisbane in 1902 for uttering, and also sentenced in New South Wales. England. —lnquiry requested for C. Galley, who left bis home, Mile End Road, London, on the Bth January last, supposed for New Zealand7in/one of the Shire Line ships. He is about 5 ft. 11 in. hj/gh/about 18 st. weight, military appearance, medium commeaon, second finger of left hand stiff, snake twined rouna of tree on right hand, clasped hands, TRUE LOVE, aiid/GOOD LUCK on one arm. He may travel under an assumed name. He was acquainted with a man named Snelling, on the s.s. “ Cornwall,” and may be accompanied by him. Inquiry by his wife, that business .arrangements ns,y be /settled between them. (I ° /bll ) <f 2.

Scotland. —Inquiry requested by the Inspector of Poor, Peterhead, for George Boyes, or Boyce, that he may be induced to support his wife and family, age thirty-seven, height sft. 6 in. or 8 in., stout build, fair hair and moustache, no beard, blue eyes. He left Oakley, near Dunfermline, for New Zealand, about 9th July, 1908, and the last letter from him was received by his wife on the Bth January, 1909. His address was given as Buller Road, Reef ton, and he stated he was employed mining and on railway-works. A man of same name was employed at the Otira Tunnel, and lefc there about Ist February last. He answers the description, but denies his identity with man inquired for, and s’ates he came from Dumfries, that his wife and children are dead, and he has been in New Zealand about five years.
