Auckland.— 23rd September last, on warrant of commitment to Palmerston North Brisorf for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 10s. fine and ctfsts for entering licensed premises while prohibited, jfames Madden, age thirtyeight, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer Tind fireman, native of Ireland, medium build, darjf complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, upper front teeth out, butterfly on left wrist. Offender was seen in Palmerston North on the 14th ultimo, and the warrant has been altered to Palmerston North Prison. New Plymouth. —2lst December last, on warrant for forgery, Frederick Lindsay Backhouse, age twentysix or twenty-seven, height 6 ft., groom and labourer, native of England, square build, fair hair, fresh blue or grey eyes, fairly long fair moustaohe, slouching gait, slovenly appearance, large feet ; fond of drink. Offender was leading a stallion for A. Cameron, and received £2 on account of stud fees from one John Hall, to whom be represented himself as the owner of tly4 stallion, and signed the receipt A. New Plymouth.— 7th instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Mervyn McCoy, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 7in., carter, native of New Zealand, stiff build, fair hair, blue eyes, ruddy complexion, long nose, clean-shaved, broad forehead, pointed chin, false set of upper teeth (shows them noticeably when laughing) ; dressed in brown suit, hard black hat or cap ; a leading player in the Star Football Club. Stratford.— Between 21st August and 20th November last, on warrant for theft of £57, the money of Ruscoe and tailors, Herbert Carty, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, fair moustache only, grey eyes ; dressed in darktweed sac suit. Offender was employed by complainants to keep their books, and received and failed to account for the above amount.

Wanganui. —l7th December last, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui for seven days in default of paying £2 14s. 6d, costs yfhi/e on remand for helpless drunkenness, Francis M. Blenheim. —lst instant, on Warrant for theft of a setter dog (recovered), value £6, the property of Albert Edward Davey, clerk, Ernest Kidman, alias Smale, alias Sutton, age twenty-five, height 6 ft. or over, fireman and labourer, native of England, strong muscular build, full round face, reddish complexion, smiling countenance, cleanshaved, light-brown hair cut short; supposed naval deserter ; dressed in dark-brown suit with green-check stripes; both

hands tattooed. His mate, Daniel Yore, who assisted in theft, has been arrested.

Rangiora. —llth instant, that he npy be compelled to comply with an order of Court for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Samuel Hamilton Wilson, age forty-two, height 5 ft. in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair hair, fresh complexion, grey eyes, small fair moustache only, quiet manner; usually wears dark-grey tweed suit and soft grey-felt hat.

Temuka. —18th January last, for forging and uttering a cheque for £3 ss. to Michael Lagan, hotelkeeper, Man, name unknown, age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 10in. or 11 in., medium build, fresh complexion, light hair ; dressed in dark brown suit, light-tweed cap; smart appearance. Identification doubtful. Offender and another man who cannot be described were supplied with two drinks by complainant, who cashed the cheque for above amount and gave offender the balance. The cheque was on the Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, signed William Ashley, in favour of Thomas Burn. No warrant issued.

Dunedin. —10th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for breach of a prohibition order, John Alexander Anderson, age about twenty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., cook, slim build, dark complexion and hair.

Lenhen (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height 5 ft. 5 in., medium build, dark hair and complexion, small dark moustache ; dressed in dark suit and cap.
