INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Sydney. Dwyer, alias George Ward, age twenty-nine, height sft. 4in. or 5 in., fruiterer, native of New South Wales, short stout build, black curly hair; always well dressed. He is supposed to be accompanied by a woman named McGrath, who is short, and very stout, has a large scar on lefc side of neck. If traced, information to be forwarded to the Inspector’s Office, Auckland, where photographs are filed. Inquiry by his wife, who is destitute.
America. — lnquiry requested for Robert Scott, age fifty-one, native of Douglas Bridge, County Tyrone, Ireland, description unknown. He was last heard of at the Immigration Depot, Ashburton, in April, 1879, when he landed in New Zealand. Inquired for by his neice, Mary Greer, 1710 South 18th Street, Philadelphia. If traced, information to be forwarded to the Inspector of Police, Christchurch.
Finland. Toivo Elias Poliander is charged on warrant with obtaining 97,000 Finnish marks by false pretences from the Hypothek Bank of Finland, at Tammerfors, Finland, on the 27th July last. Description: Thirtyeight years of age, blood-marks on forehead, oval face, moustache and little beard on chin, normal body, stooped figure, blue eyes, straight nose, speaks Finnish well, and Swedish, German, and Russian poorly. Is travelling with a passport under the name of Peter Evert Smolander. He may have come to New Zealand. A reward of 5,000 francs is offered for his arrest.
