PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. — 23rd October last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month for disobeying an order of Court to pay 2s. a week towards the maintenance of his child, Joseph Allen Clarke, age fifty, height 5 ft. B£in., seaman and lumper, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, dirty appearanoe. Arrears due up to 31st May, 1906, £7 6s. 3d.

Whangaroa.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Charles Herbert, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., a quarter-caste Maori, square stout build, black curly hair, dark complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in dark-tweed suit and hard black hat.

Whangarei. —l6th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for procuring liquor while prohibited, Harry Sweeney, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7in., fair complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, “ Amy” in scroll between two flags on right forearm, small wart under left eye. Helensville. 3rd or 4th instant, on warrant for breaking and entering the store of Stewart Bros, and stealing therefrom a cheque for 16s. on the Union Bank of Australia, Helensville, in favour of J. P Lambert or bearer, a postal note for Is. issued at Grey Lynn, and £5 13s. in cash, Thomas Sparrow, age twenty-one. height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and eyes, dark complexion ; dressed in dark-tweed suit, grey cap, soft white shirt, had a grey overcoat with him. He may seek employment on a farm or as a butcher’s assistant.

Wedlsford.- —24th ultimo, on warrant for indecently assaulting Edna and Theodora Page, schoolgirls, Man, name unknown, age about thirty-eight, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, hair turning grey, fair complexion, cleanshaved except moustache, one forefinger deformed (supposed left); dressed in dark suit, brown-felt hat, and was carrying a small swag covered with brown or reddish-coloured oilcloth, a sugar bag, and billy; very talkative. On the 27th instant he was seen at Kaiwaka making towards Dargaville.

Gisborne. —30th October last, on warrant for theft of a sheep-dog (recovered), the property of John Munro, shepherd, Patutahi, James Preston, age about thirty-five, height 6 ft. 1 in. or 2 in., shepherd, native of Taranaki, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair and moustache, has a scar below one eye. Offender borrowed the dog from complainant and sold it for £B. Offender left Gisborne with his wife by the s.s. “ Waikare ” on 10th ultimo, and stated he was going back to Taranaki.

Napier. —7th instant, that he may be served with a summons for a breach of a prohibition order, Thomas Hayes, age fifty-two years, height 5 ft. 6Jin., labourer, native of London, slim build, fair complexion and hair, fair moustache ; dressed in old light-tweed suit, fawn-coloured soft-felt hat; generally employed on road-works, well known about Dannevirke,

Napier. — he may be served with a summons for a prohibited person into a hotel, Patrick Coghlan, age about forty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, stout build, very dark complexion, dark hair and full face, brown eyes; dressed in old dark sac suit, brown sweater ; dirty appearance.

Napier.—3rd instant, that he may be induced to contribute towards the support of his two sons, inmates of the Weraroa Training Farm, Henry Lorigan, age fortyfive, height 5 ft. s§in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, grey hair and eyes, dirty appearance, addicted to drink. Hastings.—l4th September, on warrant of commit-

ment to Napier Prison for one month, in default of paying £2 fine for theft, John Moore, age nineteen, height • 5 ft. B|in., farm labourer, native of Australia, fresh sandy complexion, fair hair, medium build, blue eyes; last heard of at Masterton. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 354.)

Ormondville. —9th instant, that he may be subpoenaed as a witness in the case Police v. Sabin, assault, Janies O’Connor, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., shearer and labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, rather red complexion, freckled, no hair on face, brown hair; dressed in shabby light-tweed suit and soft-grey felt hat; speaks with an Irish aocent; will probably be found shearing.

Palmerston North. warrant may be executed on her for £9 125., arrears due for the maintenance of her child, Mary Mudford, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 2 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, slight squint in one eye, sometimes wears glasses; generally dressed in black, with Merry Widow hat. Was seen in Shannon about the beginning of November last.

Shannon. —13th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a jar of pickles (recovered), the property of William Henry Gumming, value 2s. 6d., John Rogers, age twenty-nine, height sft. 4|in., flax hand, native of England, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, clean-shaved, stout build ; generally dressed in blue-serge suit and cap, scar on left side of nose ; fond of drink. Supposed identical with Ernest Sinclair, alias Walters. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 481.)

Wellington.— 23rd ultimo, on warrant for theft of £2 11s. 9d., the money of Arthur Edward Preston, butcher, Tory Street, Frank Humphreys, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6in., butcher, native of New Zealand, clean-shaved except brown moustache ; usually dressed in blue suit and cap. He will probably be found at freeziug-works. He was driving a butcher’s cart for complainant, and failed to pay over the above amount received by him. Other charges pending. Wellington.— 7th instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Ada Margaret Stening, Wellington South, Walter Stening, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, slim build, narrow shoulders, dark eyes, full set of false teeth, clean-shaved. Father and brother reside in May’s Road, Papanui, Ohristchurch. He formerly worked at Hastings for a Mr. Benge, builder, of Wanganui. Offender expressed his intention of witnessing the late boxing contest at Wanganui, and may be found there or at Hastings or New Plymouth. Photograph filed in Inspector’s Office, Wellington.

Westport.— Bth instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Joseph Askew, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., labourer, native of Australia, blue eyes, fair complexion, light-brown hair, inclined to be stiff, stout build, sarcastic expression on features ; dressed in navy-blue coat, dark trousers, and hard hat. He was formerly working at Waihi, and may endeavour to leave the Dominion.

Christchurch.— 2nd instant, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for twenty-four hours, in default of paying Bs. fine and costs for drunkenness, William Murray, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh tanned complexion, brown hair, grey eyes; dressed in old brown suit and light-brown Dr. Jim hat. He was recetElv employed by Mr. Robinson, of Strathallan Farm.

Christchurch.— On or about the sth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Daniel twenty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of N^^Kealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown grey eyes, two prominent teeth in front ; dressed in suit and

hard hat. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 219.) Offender obtained £4 from Frederick William Schramm, Clerk, S.M. Court, Christchurch, by falsely representing that he had an account at the Post-Office Savings-Bank, Auckland, which he was transferring to Christchurch.

Christchurch.— Between 20th and 31st August last, on warrant for forgery and uttering, George C. Cox, age thirty to thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 6 in., storeman, native of England, stout build, black hair and moustache, pale complexion ; dresses fairly well in blue coat and vest, saddletweed trousers. Offender was employed by Maddren Brothers, rope-makers, and received a crossed cheque for £3 16s. 7d. from Matheson and Co., Invercargill. He cashed the cheque, forging the name of S. H. Maddren to indorsement on back.

Lyttelton. — 3oth ultimo, on warrant for theft of a coat and a pair of trousers, value £1 2s. 6d. (recovered), the property of Joseph Reynolds, labourer, Teddington, Hill alias Jack Davidson, age about twenty-four, height 5 ft. Bin., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, clean-shaved, sharp features, sunken eyes, no teeth in front upper jaw ; dressed in light coat and moleskin trousers.

Dunedin. —sth instant, that he may be compelled to contribute towards the maintenance of his children in Caversham Industrial School, Henry Augustus William Meade, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 7in., fisherman, native of New Zealand, medium build, smart active^appearance, fair pointed cropped beard, fresh complexion, grey eyes; generally dressed in blue-serge suit and brown Dr. Jim hat. Supposed to have gone to the North Island. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 416.)

Dunedin.— 3rd instant, that a subpoena may be served on him to appear at the Supreme Court on the 14th February next, in the case R-x v. Healey, Pyle, and Burgess, assault, James Andrew McLean, age about thirty-five, height sft. 7 in. or 8 in., hawker and dealer, native of Scotland, thin build, slightly lame, one hand (supposed left) is slightiy disabled with rheumatism ; fond of drink; dressed in darktweed sac suit, skull-cap. He left his home on the 7th October last intending to go to Otago Central dealing. His wife is now on a visit to her father, Mr. Bassett, Carterton. As McLean is an important witness, every effort should be made to trace him.

Dunedin. —24th October last, on warrant for theft of a coat, value £5 (recovered), the property of Walter Wyatt, hotelkeeper, W. Steward, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, may have scanty fair moustache ; dressed in dark suit and cap. Identification doubtful.
