PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.-—l6th June last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £9 18. fine and costs for assault, George Stephens, age thirty, height sft. 6 in., labourer, native of Tasmania, strong build, dark hair, brown eyes, cast in right eye, left leg has been broken. £5 Is. has been paid, leaving a balance now due of £4 17s.

Auckland.—7th April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £ll3s. fine and costs for a breach of the city by-laws, Percy Pascoe, age twenty-eight, carrier, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and moustache, dark complexion.

Auckland.—l6th April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for a breach of the city by-laws, Arthur R. Roach, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 2 in., carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair.

Auckland.—29th May last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying £1 6s. costs for assault, John Waddell, age twentynine, height 5 ft. 10 in., miner, native of South Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, mole on left side of neck, scars on left hand and jaw.

Auckland.—l7th June last, on warrant for deserting his wife, Florence Kennedy, at Auckland, Michael John Kennedy, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, dark curly hair, slightly bald on top of head, brown eyes, sandy moustache ; was dressed in a striped-tweed suit with double-breasted coat. Offender has a brother residing at 38 Herald Street, South Wellington.

Auckland.—l9th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay 7s. 6d. a week towards the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Robert Gibb, age twentythree, height 6ft., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, was in the Training Depot, Wellington. He was in arrears £27 9s. 6d. on above date.

Auckland. —stb December last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 6s. fine and costs for being absent without leave from a parade of the Auckland Garrison Artillery on above date, Albert John Downey, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slim build, thin features, long thin nose, very close-set teeth.

Whangabei.—27th April, 1907, on warrant for forgery, John Henry Nounan, age forty to forty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., auctioneer and agent, stout build, reddish complexion, bloated appearance, brown hair and moustache ; dressed in dark suit and hard black hat; fond of drink. Offender left Whangarei on the 14th May last by the s.s. “ Kanieri,” for Auckland. He was employed as agent for the London and Berlin Piano Company, and forged the name of Henry Webb to an agreement to purchase a piano on time payment. He afterwards sold the piano for £24 3s. 6d. Other charges pending.

Ormondville. —17th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on Richard James Staunton, hotelkeeper, W. L. Jones or James (name probably fictitious), age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, clean-shaved, fair complexion, sunburnt, brown curly hair; dressed in dark-check suit and hard black hat. Offender gave complainant a valueless cheque for £2 10s. on the Bank of New South Wales, Auckland, in payment for hoard, and left on the same date for Auckland, and took passage on the 19th ultimo by the s.s. “ Mokoia ” for Sydney. He was accompanied by a man who gave the name of Stoddart, and they had with them a green-canvas trunk and five handbags. Stoddart represented that he was a medical practitioner. Dannevirke.— 29th ultimo, on warrant for deserting his wife, Mary Jane Clifton, at Dannevirke, John James Clifton, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 10 ft., labourer and shearer, native of New South Wales, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair, sandy moustache only, grey eyes. He was last heard of at Martinhorough.

Palmerston North. 22nd ultimo, on warrant for smoking opium, Lee Ping, sen., age sixty-four, height 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in., native of China, gardener, thin build, round shoulders, head bent forward, very sallow complexion, walks very slowly, almond-shaped eyes, two or more front upper teeth missing; dressed in shabby brown clothes; speaks a little English. Lee Ping, jun., on warrant for being in possession of a preparation of opium, age forty-two, height sft. 6in. or 7in., gardener, medium build, cleanshaved ; dressed in shabby brown suit, soft-felt hat or grey cap ; speaks fairly good English. Lee Chung, on warrant for abetting smoking opium, age forty-four, height sft. sin. or 6 in., gardener, sallow complexion, "brown eyes ; dressed in dark suit, brown cap ; cannot speak English.

Wellington.—3lst ultimo, that he may be induced to pay regularly towards the maintenance of his children in the Weraroa Training Farm, Henry Lorigan, age forty-five, height 5 ft. sfin., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, grey hair and eyes, dirty appearance. (See Police Gazette , 1909, page 225.) If found, to be informed that arrears due up to the Ist March last have been remitted.

Wellington. —2Bth ultimo, that she may be compelled to provide for the maintenance of her illegitimate child, an inmate of the industrial school, Yera Keg an, age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., good-looking, high-coloured complexion, good figure and carriage, dark hair, grey eyes, not well educated. She said her father was a captain on a boat, and lived in Devonport, and also said that he was a hotelkeeper near Auckland. She was last heard of at Paekakariki, in February, 1909.

Ashburton. —2lst ultimo, on warrant for theft, James Laurenson, age twenty-six to thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., canvasser, native of England, slight build, dark complexion and hair, sharp hard features, prominent nose with mark of old cut on bridge, dark sharp eyes, clean -shaved ; dressed in dark clothes and grey overcoat with cape. Offender was canvassing for G. A. Bunz, photographer, and received the sum of 7s. 6d., for which he failed to account to his employer. He is fond of drink, and is constantly trying to borrow small sums of money.

Dunedin. — 28th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Sydney Cooper, age twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 5 in., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, fair or brown hair, stout build, clean-shaved. He was recently employed at Barr’s coach-factory, and is supposed to have come to the North Island.

Dunedin. —3lst May last, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 3s. fine and costs for drunkenness, William Allison Bowie, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., seaman and drapers’ assistant, native of Scotland, light-brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, broad nose, scar on forehead and under left eye ; fond of drink.
