Auckland. —Constable J. A. Mathew, No. 831, has been awarded £6, and Constables D. C. Fraser, No. 787, and J. Fitzgerald, No. 741, £3 each, for services in connection with convictions obtained for keeping liquor for sale, receiving liquor for sale, &c., at Te Kuiti. (09/696.) Invebcaegill.— Constable J. I. Melville, No. 854, has been awarded £1 by the Customs Department for services in connection with the conviction of Low Lum, at Arrowtown, for smoking opium. (09/65.) Invebcaegill.— Detective A. Cameron, No. 794, has been a varded £lO, and Sergeant P. McGrath, No. 193, £5, by the Customs Department for services in connection with the smuggling of boots from the s.s. “ Opawa,” at the Bluff. (09/65.) Invebcaegill. —Constable W. H. Barrett, No. 436, has been awarded £l4 10s. by the Customs Department for services in connection with the conviction of Kong Sue, at Lumsden, for having opium in his possession. (09/65.)
Sittings of Supreme Court appointed. (See New Zealand Police Gazette , 1909, page 1579.) WB, five of the Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in us by “The Judicature Act, 1908,” hereby make the following additional rules respecting the places and times for holding sittings of the Supreme Court and sittings in Chambers, in the Judicial District of Westland, for the year 1909 : Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of causes under “The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act,
1908,” will be held at the Courthouse, Geeymouth, to commence on the following days, at 11 a.m.: — Monday, 28th June. Tuesday, 21st September. Wednesday, Bth December ; And at the Courthouse, Westpobt, to commence on the following days, at 11 a.m. : Monday, sth July. Saturday, 25th September. Wednesday, 15th December.
Business in Chambers may be disposed of in the course of these sittings, on such days and at such hours as the Judge may appoint. If any of the days above appointed for sittings should be a public holiday, the sittings will commence on the first day after the day so appointed which is not a holiday.
