Dargaville.—27th ultimo, that she may be compelled to contribute towards the maintenance of her ohild, Laura Lucy Parr, or Laura Parker, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 3 in., domestic and cook, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes. Supposed to have gone to New Plymouth to seek employment. Inquiry by Education Department, Wellington.

Auckland.—2nd April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for threatening behaviour, George Benfield, age forty-nine, height 5 ft. s^in., labourer, native, of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, scar on right side of forehead.

Auckland.-—26th ultimo, that he may be served with a summons for breaches of prohibition order, Henry Sweeney, alias John Williams, age twenty - eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., cooper or labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, “AMY” in scroll between two flags on right arm; fond of drink, and hangs about hotels and billiard-rooms. Auckland.—2nd April last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 3s. fine and costs for threatening behaviour, William James Tattersall, alias William Joseph Tattersall, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 5f in., driver, native of New Zealand, brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh oomplexion, medium build.

Auckland.—l2th March last, on two warrants of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days and one month in default of paying £4 fine and costs for wilful damage and insulting language, John McCarthy, age thirty - four, height 5 ft. 6 in., organ grinder, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, auburn hair, is totally blind.

Auckland.—6th March last, on warrant for theft of a pair of gold sleeve-links, value £5 (recovered), the property of Arthur Crowther, traveller, George Wilkinson, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., medium budd, darkish complexion, olean-shaved ; dressed in shabby blue suit and light cap.

Auckland.—2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, John M. Irvine, age twenty-four, height about sft. 10in., traveller or packer, native of New Zealand, broad shoulders, dark hair, blue eyes, ruddy complexion ; dressed in blue suit. Parents reside at Newmarket, Auckland. Complainant, Prances Freestone, domestic, Auckland.

Auckland.—22nd ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay 10l a week towards the maintenance of his wife, James John Frater, age sixty-three, height about 5 ft. 6 in., french-polisher, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, brown eyes, large head, bald on top of head, scar on right hand. Is supposed to have gone to Sydney.

Auckland. —3rd instant, that he may be compelled to contribute towards the support of his five children in St. Mary’s Industrial School, Arthur Walter Lewis, age fortynine, height 5 ft. 7in., cook and steward, native of England, swarthy complexion, large nose, dark hair and eyes, cleanshaved except heavy black moustache. May be on some of the large boats trading to New Zealand. (See Police Gazette, 1904, page 61, and 1906, page 407.)

Mercer. —2lst ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Harold Vincent, age about twentv-four, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., farm hand, clean-shaved, black hair, darkish complexion, smartish build and appearance ; wearing black hard hat, greyish suit, and carrying a small new brief-bag. Offender bought a horse from John Williams, and tendered a valueless cheque on Bank of New South Wales for £lB in payment; he then sold the horse to William McNaish for £lO, receiving £5 on account, and afterwards borrowed the horse to ride to Mercer, where he again sold the horse to F. Coleman for £lO. Offender represents that he has done sign writing and painting in Wellington. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 223.)

Hamilton.— 22nd ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Bertie Lyons, age nineteen, height 5 ft. in., labourer and blacksmith, quarter-caste Maori, swarthy complexion, black curly hair,-brown eyes; probably wearing a new worsted sac suit; good smart appearance. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 515.) Offender forged the name of Alf. Gallagher (by whom he was employed) to a cheque for £7 55., and uttered it to George Fletcher, tailor, in payment for a suit of clothes, and received a balance of £ri7s. 6d. Other charges pending. He is also suspected of stealing from Alf. Gallagher’s house a gold ring set with about seven diamonds and rubies (in shape of cross), a Kruger shilling with a hole in it, an American silver quarterdollar, a metal-bound petrified-wood match-box, a small white knife for hanging on watch-ohain, a gold tie-pin with greenstone heart pendant; value about £4 103. Waihi.—4th March last, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Jacob Walder, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., electrical engineer, native of Switzerland, fair complexion, dark hair (inclined to be curly), small sandy moustache, dark-blue eves, dark eyebrows (inclined to meet), speaks broken English, tattoo-marks on one arm ; usually wears dark clothes. Complainant, Robina Marshall.

Waihi. —27th ultimo, that he may be served with a summons for disobeying an order of the Court for the support of his wife and children, Percy Ohio Hill, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., miner and labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, dark hair, thin features, resembles a half-caste Maori, thin build, quiet manner; respectable appearance. Last heard of two months ago at Whangamata.

Woodville. —On the 31st ultimo the dead body of a child was found in a creek, close to Woodville, in a green-canvas bag, there was also in the bag a white oil-cloth sheet 42 in. by 16 in., apparently used as a table-cover. The postmortem examination disclosed that the child was born alive, and that death was due to strangulation caused by a string tied round the neck. The green-canvas bag was sold by Ernest Casey, saddler, Woodville, on the 12th ultimo to a Man, name unknown, age about twenty-five to thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., supposed labourer, medium build, cleanshaved except small brown moustache, fair complexion; dressed in blue-vicuna suit and hard black hat. It is supposed that the body was brought from some distance outside the Woodville district.

Palmerston North. —Bth ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, J. W. Law (name probably fictitious), age thirty to thirty-five, height about sft. 7in. or Bin., medium build, clean-shaved, dark hair inclined to be curly, dark complexion, good address, speaks quickly ; dressed in dark suit, straw hat ; has the appearance of a canvasser. A cheque was stolen from the book of J. R. Freeman, journalist, Palmerston North, which offender filled in for £9, purported to be signed by J. Knight, farmer, at Kairanga, and uttered it to Mark Dumbleton, licensee, Post Office Hotel. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 224.)

Palmerston North.— 4th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on Charles Morgan, hotelkeeper, Longburn, E. J. O’Neill, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., horse-trainer, native of New Zealand, strong build, full face, fair moustache only, blue eyes, fair hair, proprietor of O'Neill’s Buck-jumping Show. Offender gave a valueless cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Taihape, for £6 to complainant in payment for three drinks, and received the balance, £5 18s. 6d. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 224.)

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Man, name unknown, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., clean-shaved, medium build, dark hair, had

the appearance of an artisan. Offender forged the name of H. Stacey to a cheque for £5 165., drawn in favour of wages, and uttered it to Christopher Smith, draper, Cuba Street, in payment for goods value 10s. lid., and reoeived the balance.

Wellington. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for forging and uttering, William Robinson, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, smart appearance, clsan-shaved except small brown moustache, brown hair, pale complexion, lump behind right ear, slight build ; dressed in navy-blue suit, hard black hat or grey cap, tan boots with wide soles; rides a bicycle. Offender stole a blank cheque from the book of T. Bevan, of Manakau, and filled it in for £8 165., forged T. Bevan’s name to it, and uttered it to Mrs. Mary Ann Barbara Fairbairn, hotelkeeper, Wellington. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 224.) It has now been ascertained by Detective W. Lewis and Acting-Detective A. Andrews, Wellington police, that offender is identical with William Mackay, alias McKay. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 257 ; 1902, page 226 ; 1906, page 86 ; 1907, page 360; and photographed at Napier 6th June, 1905.) He is also supposed identical with William McKay. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 204.)

Clyde Quay. —4th instant, that a summons may be served on him for being found on licenced premises during the currency of a prohibition order, Michael Ryan (known as Cos Ryan), age twenty-six, heignt 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, brown moustache only. His father was licensee of a hotel in Napier, and is now residing in Wellington.

Christchurch. — 4th instant, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pav £1 15s. a week for the maintenance of his wife and four children, Charles Matthew Smith, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., hairdresser, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, wears his hair long, clean-shaved, prominent nose, one front tooth filled with gold; generally well dressed in greyish-coloured clothes, and cap or straw hat. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s Office, Christchurch. On the above date he was in arrears £8 15s. He will probably be found in company with a barmaid named Barbara Bookman, a native of Masterton, medium build and height, fair complexion, very dark eyes.

Christchurch. —24th ultimo, on warrant for conspiring with Patrick Dalton and J. Arthur (both arrested) to defraud Henry Uru of the sum of £lB, Snowy Sincott, age twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 9 in., spieler, native of Australia, very fair complexion, fair curly hair, slight medium build, gold-filling in teeth, clean shaved; usually wears tweed suit, black hard hat, or straw hat. Supposed to have gone to Auckland. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 225.)

Christchurch. —llth ultimo, on warrant for theft of £ll 175., the money of John Robinson, acetylene gas agent, Christchurch, George Doerr, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., canvasser, native of Marton, New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved, several false teeth in front, other teeth discoloured ; dressed in dark suit, white vest, and tan boots. Offender was employed by Robinson as a canvasser, and collected the above amount from Manvers Edwards, of Belfast, and has not since been seen. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 214, where name of Dewar was incorrectly supplied.)

Southbridge.— loth December last, on warrant for deserting bis wife, Elizabeth Howatson, at Rangicata, William Howatson, age thirty, height 5f d. 9 in., labourer and sailor, native of Scotland, slight build, brown hair, brown eyes, fresh complexion, clean-shaved; usually wears dark clothes and dark cap ; Rock of Ages, Hands across the Sea, sailor-boy, and girl tattooed on arms; thumb on right hand has been apparently crushed; has five fingers on left hand, and only one joint on thumb.

Ashburton.-— Bth ultimo, on warrant for obtaining a suit of clothes, value £2 155., from William McOlurg, draper, by false pretences, Gordon J. Henderson, age twenty to twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark-brown hair, very small dark moustache only, simple-looking; may be wearing the above suit, which is dark-brown with faint stripes running lengthwise. Offender obtained the suit of clothes by paying £1 cash, and giving a written order for the balance on Mr. Hutchison, of Mount Somers, for whom he had been working. He had left Mount Somers, on 4th ultimo, and there was no money due to him. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 225.)
