DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE.
From H.M.S. “ Pioneer ,” at Nelson. On 6th February, 1908. Aubrey Harold Smith, age twenty-onel heigAt .5 ft. 10J in., stoker, native of Londmaylight-brown eyes, fresh complexion, heart piorcejfl on left forearm; dressed in light coat A navy-blue trousers, and dirty white sweater. By/previously deserted at Auckland, was arrested by the Napier police, and put on board the “ Pioneer ”by the Wellington police. He again deserted at Nelson. (See Police Gazette, 1908, pages 52, 82, and 91.)
From H.M.S. “ Challenger ,” at Wellington. On 31st January, 1908. Malcolm McGregor, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6£ in., stoker, native of Glasgow, dark hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, scar on right thigh. / A William Arthur height 5 ft. 7 in., stoker, native of/Hpbp.rt, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, scar on right hand. William Qushu Joynes, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., stoker, native of South Australia, dark brown hair, light grey eyes, fresh complexion. A reward not exceeding £3 each will be paid for their apprehension.
From H.M.S. “ Pegasus,” at Wellington. On 9th February, 1908. John Ortin, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7Jin., A. 8., native of England, brown hair and eyes, fresh complexion, mole on right buttock, scar on left shin. Albert Flaxman, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 6£ in., A. 8., native of Marylebone, black hair, brown eyes, dark complexion, large scar on right elbow, “ A.F.” on right forearm, sword-pierced heart and several marks on left forearm. A reward not exceeding £3 each will be paid for their apprehension.
From H.M.S. “Encounter ,” at Hobart. On 17th February, 1908. W. H. Evans, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., A. 8., native of England, light-brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion.
Thomas Chalmers, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., A. 8., native of Scotland, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion.
From H.M.B. “ Powerful,” at Wellington. On 24th January, 1908. Stephen Tiller, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 4in., seaman, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, hand with flower tattooed on left forearm, “ Annie ” tattooed on right arm.
John Thornton, age twenty-one, height 6 ft. 6 in., seaman, two moles on left cheek. Joseph Edge, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., seaman.
