(See Police Gazette, 1907, page 373.) Offender obtained an advance of £3 on furniture which he falsely represented he possessed.

A Newton. —17th ultimo, on warrant for theft from the dwelling of William Brooks, engineer, of a very old doubleA cased watch; an open-faced watch, glass 1 broken; a 9 ct. gold bar brooch, ‘‘ Bk byN’ in raised letters v\ thereon ; and a ladies’ gold. Eden Terrace.— lßth ultimo, for indecently assaulting Ralph Leslie Bush, a boy aged six years, Man, name unknown, age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. 6in., sickly

Woodville. tences on William Galbraith, storekeeper, .Charles Chatie (name probably fictitious). For description see following paragraph. Offender purchased a hat for 15s. and gave in payment a cheque for £8 145., signed “ James Whittaker ” in favour of Charles Searle.

Masterton. —lsth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences P] / on D. Finlayson and Son, Charles Chatie (name probably fictitious), age twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 4 in,, Zyhad the appearance of a clerk, supposed colonial, cleanshaved, sallow complexion, sunken eyes with black rings’ round them, brown hair; dressed in navy-blue suit, double ' turned-down collar, black tie with white spots, straw hat with black band; sarcastic manner, dissipated appearance. Offender, accompanied by a man about twenty-seven years of age, 6 ft. high, clean-shaved, upper teeth missing in front, - well dressed in brownish-green suit, carrying a small brown bag, called at Finlayson’s shop and purchased a pair of boots at £1 3s. 6d., and obtained two blank cheques on the Bank of New South Wales and filled one up for £2 in favour of D. Finlayson and Son, signed “ Chas. Chatie,” and received the balance. The other cheque was issued at Woodville on the 17th ultimo, and signed “ James Wnittaker.” The offender was employed for about a week at the Oc idental Hotel, as porter, and then went by the name of John Walker. His confederate is said to be a man named Blair, a draper. Both have lived in Pa merston North and Wellington. (Sre preceding paragraph and Police Gazette, 1908, page 97.)

Waipawa. —24feh ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for refusing to quit licensed premises, Sidney Peters, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, auburn hair becoming thin ; dressed in dark-grey tweed suit, felt or straw hat; fond of drink.

Wellington. —27th January last, dt jr warrant for disobeying an order of the Court to pay a week towards the maintenance of his wife,/J3rnes t Carl Max Mielsch, age thirty-six, height sfi. 7in., labourer, native of Germany, stout build, fair eyes, fair moustache, scar on throat, full name tattooed on left forearm; dressed in brown-caeck cap. On the above date he was in arrears £1 10s.

Denniston. —20th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Westport Gaol for thirty days in default of paying £4 ss. 9d. fine and costs for obscene language, Alfred Jonson, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., seaman, native of Sweden, strong build, fair hair and complexion, speaks with a foreign accent; usually wears blue suit and cap ; fond of drink.

Christchurch.— 24th ultimo, that he may compelled to provide for the maintenance of his child, an inmate of the Receiving Home, Christchurch, Frank Malarky, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Ireland, stout build, dark hair, bald on top of head, full dark beard, large blue eyes, fair complf xion, upper front teeth prominent, slightly pigeon-toed ; generally dresses neatly. Was last heard of about three months ago at Waipawa.

Christchurch.—l3th November last, that he may be served with two notices of fine for trespass on the Riccarton Racecourse on 2nd and 4th November last, James Saunders, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., bookmaker, supposed native of New Zealand, medium build, light hair, clean-shaved except very small light moustache, broad cheekbones, and narrow chin ; usually dressed stylishly.
