INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Brisbane. —A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Frank Smedley for theft of £1,4:00, property of the Crown, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., sallow complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved, snub nose, stout build, wears spectacles, holds himself upright, bank clerk, arrest desired. (06/1414.)
Sydney. —A warrant has been issued by the Central Police Bench for the arrest of W. A. Edgar, charged with embezzling the sum of £l7 165., the property of the Kauri Timber Company (Limited), Sydney, on the 13th January, 1906. Offender is about fifty years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft. high, slight build, sharp features, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark hair turning grey, sandy moustache only turning grey, wrinkles on face and neck, walks with a quick military step, of good address; generally dressed in dark sac suit and hard black hat; a clerk. Lately resided with his family at Canley Vale, 'near railway-station. Known at “ Bon Accord,” Neereman, Maldon, Victoria. Complainant, Robert Walker, Manager, Kauri Timber, Company. The offender is said to have relatives residing in or near Dunedin, New Zealand, and is supposed to have been employed at Wellington some years ago. Redfern.— A warrant has been issued by the Redfern Bench for the arrest of Frederick Whittaker, charged with wife-desertion (indictable offence). He is about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in. high, stout build, auburn hair, fair complexion, brown eyes, sandy moustache, dressed in a dark-grey tweed suit, and hard black hat; supposed to be in New Zealand. Complainant Bridget Whittaker, 11 Forbes Street, Darlington. (See New South, Wales Police Gazette, 1906, page 216.)
Lithgow. —A warrant has been issued by the Lithgow Bench for the arrest of Samuel Hysons Baxter, charged with child-desertion. He is about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, medium build, very fair complexion, light-brown hair, rather heavy brown moustache ; well dressed, smart appearance, a hotelkeeper or ironworker. Supposed gone to Sydney, en route to England or New Zealand. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1906, page 216.)
England.— lnquiry requested for James Halbrook, alias Weight. He is described as having brown curly hair, rather high square shoulders, and has served in the mounted police, South Africa. He left Tilbury Docks, London, by the s.s. “ lonic,” on the 14th January, 1904, for Wellington, New Zealand, under the name of Weight, and was accompanied by a woman named Hilda Hayman, age twenty-seven, dark complexion, and tall. Inquiry through Wellington police by his wife, Louisa Halbrook, 34 Kingsdown Parade, Bristol, England. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s office, Wellington.
Scotland. —Inquiry requested for Alexander Ronald Macdonald, age twenty-five, tall, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes, clerk and labourer, native of Skye, Scotland. He was employed by Parr Bros., of Hamilton, and by the Transport Coaching Company, Rotorua, up to about the 15th February last, when he left —supposed for Wellington. He is fond of drink and may be found working on the railway-line or in a livery-stable. Inquiry by his mother, Mrs. Macdonald, 66 Cranston Street, Glasgow. 06/814.)
