PERSONS WANTED.

Pareoa.— 2oth December last, on warrant of commitment to the Thames Gaol for seven days in default of paying £1 17s. fine and costs for cruelty to a horse, John Martin, age about twenty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, dark complexion, looks like a half-caste, dark-brown hair, cleanshaved ; dressed in very old brown-tweed suit and straw hat; generally works on farms or at flax-mills.

Waipawa. —sth instant, that steps may be taken to compel him to provide for the maintenance of his son in the Burnham Industrial School, James Campbell, age sixty-one, height 5 ft. 3Jin., labourer, native of Scotland, fair complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, medium nose, getting bald, ruptured. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 283 ; and 1903, page 147.)

Feilding. —24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Gaol for six days in default of paying £2 14s. 6d. fine and costs for disturbing a congregation and threatening behaviour, Lionel Keir, age twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion. Supposed to have gone to Canterbury.

Greytown North.— 3rd instant, for failing to comply with terms of release under the First Offenders’ Probation Act, Charles Nelson, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 6fin., native of Norway, labourer, fair complexion, brown hair, generally clean-shaved except reddish-brown moustache, sometimes wears full beard, blue eyes, large nose, medium build, cross tattooed on right arm, “ 8.W.5.” on right hand, anchor on left hand, tattoo-spots on all fingers, “M.S.”on left arm; generally wears grey suit and black hard hat. Otaki. Bth Deoember last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £3 2s. fine and costs for mischief, Thomas Watson, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Australia, fair complexion, small fair moustache only, brown hair, grey eyes, hollow chest, scar on back of wrist; usually dressed in dark-tweed sac suit and soft hat; fond of drink. Lower Hutt. —23rd December last, for theft of a bicycle, value £l4 10s., the property of Frank Nattrass and Co., Lower Hutt, Harry Wright, age about twenty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, stoutish build, fair oomplexion, light-brown hair, cleanshaved, round features. His parents are said to reside near Palmerston North. Offender obtained the bicycle on timepayment, and sold it to Cohen, second-hand dealer, Masterton, on the above date.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse, value £9 (recovered), the property of Lindsay Pee, builder, Wellington, Henry Hunter, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., carpenter, native of Australia, slight build, about list, weight, fair complexion, sandy (almost red) hair and moustache, rather small blue eyes, shifty manner when speaking; generally wears grey Scotch-tweed sac suit. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney, where he formerly lived. His wife and two children left for there on 20th ultimo. Other charges pending. Offender was in partnership with complainant, and sold the horse and appropriated the money. Photograph filed in the Commissioner’s Office, and arrest desired in any of the Australian States. Greymouth. —About 14th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a racing saddle and bridle, value £5, the property of Vincent Vitalla, Wellington, Alfred Genet, alias Millerson, age thirty-five, height sft. 6 in., canvasser and baker, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, medium nose inclined to left, when last seen was clean-shaved except fair moustache ; dressed in blue suit and hard black hat. The saddle and bridle has been recovered by Detective Campbell, Greymouth police, and traced to offender. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 445 ; and 1906, page 30.)

Christchurch. —23rd December last, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for forty-eight hours in default of paying 18s. costs of medical expenses for drunkenness, William Vaughan, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 6£ in., bootmaker, native of England, sallow complexion, grey hair, brown eyes, large nose, mole on left cheek. Christchurch. —16th ultimo, on warrant for deserting his wife, Sarah Jane Lloyd, at Christchurch, John Robert Lloyd, age fifty-three, height about 5 ft. 7 in., baker, native of Victoria, slight build, fair complexion, black hair, brown eyes, black beard and moustache turning grey: dressed in dark clothes and soft brown hat, usually wears black Cardi-

gan jacket. Offender has a brother, Robert Lloyd, living in Queen Street, Melbourne, from whom he received money, and is now supposed to have gone there.

Christchurch. —17th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for fourteen days in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for breach of prohibition order, Thomas Kane, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 10£in., labourer, native of Ireland, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes. Timaru. —7th instant, that a copy of minute of order may be served on him for default of maintenance, Nathaniel Daly, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, heavy brown moustache, brown hair ; dressed in dark-tweed suit and brown Dr. Jim hat. He was arrested at Mount Pleasant Station, and was then going under the name of Nat. Lee. (See Police Gazette , 1906, page 30.)

Dunedin. —Between 14th December last and 14th ultimo, on warrant for theft from Ernest J. Hill of a rolled-gold hunting Elgin watch, No. 8252232, No. 6124664 on inside case, No. 24664 inside rim, value £5, man, name unknown, who found the pawn - ticket for the watch (which complainant had pledged at Marks’s pawn-office, George Street, Dunedin) and redeemed it on the 23rd December last. No description can be given of the offender.

Dunedin. —l9th ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for the maintenance of his children in Caversham Industrial School, William Martin, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, colonial, fresh complexion, fair hair, fair moustache only, strong build ; usually wears darktweed suit and hard black hat. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 212.)

Balclutha. —3lst ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse (recovered), value £l4, a heavy English saddle, a snaffle bridle, a white-woollen sweater, an old pair of light boots, and £6, the property of William Tilson, puntman, South Molyneux, Thomas Henderson, age nineteen, labourer, height sft. 9in., fair hair and complexion, slight build, grey or blue eyes, clean-shaved, middle joint of one finger broken, supposed by bullet; dressed in dark-tweed coat, vest, and cap, light pants frayed at bottoms, hobnail boots, and was carrying a white-blanket swag.

Invercargill. —27th September, 1901, on warrant for false pretenoes on Charles Danvers, Insurance Manager, Sydney, John William Weaver, age sixty-five to seventy, height sft. 5 in., horse-dealer, native of England, stout build, red full face, short neck, ginger-grey shortclipped beard and moustache, greyish hair, bald on top of head, blue eyes, upper teeth missing ; dressed in blue sac suit, black hard-felt hat, and fawn or greyish covert coat, usually carries an umbrella. He is wanted at Sydney for the above offence (see New South Wales Police Gazette, 1901, page 433), and has been living at Invercargill, where a warrant has been now issued for his arrest with a view to his extradition. He was seen in Invercargill on the 3rd instant.
