PERSONS WANTED.
Pukekohe. —26th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £6, a Waterbury watch, and lady’s rolled-goid chain, value £l, the property of John Evans, farmer, Bombay, Walter Scott Cormack, age twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, thin face, clean shaved, sallow complexion, darkbrown hair, horseshoe - shaped scar on chin, lobes of ear attached to face ; dressed in blue vicuna suit, cap, tennis shirt, and light tie; crape on coat-sleeve.
Te Kuiti. —29th ultimo, with a view of compelling him to maintain his son in an industrial school, John Foster, age forty-two, height 5 ft. Biu., a bush contractor, medium build, fair hair and moustache, narrow face, long nose, blue eyes ; fond of drink.
Stratford. —20th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle, value £7 10s. (recovered), the property of P. Charles Price, H. Williams (not A. Williams, as shown in Police Gazette, 1905, page 185), slight build, about 5 ft. 10 in. high, dark hair and complexion, small dark moustache only; dressed in a dark-blue suit, hard blackfelt hat, white shirt, square-toed boots; respectable appearance. Offender hired the bicycle, and sold it by auction on the above date at Eltham.
Feilding. —2nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on John Cobbe, draper, H. Langsdorf, age about thirtyfive, height about 5 ft. 7 in., a Jew, slight build, dark hair complexion and moustache, a rubber-stamp maker ; dressed in Paget coat, dark trousers and vest, and hard black hat. (See Police Gazette, 1905. page 177.) He obtained goods to the value of 11s. and £3 9s. change by means of a valueless cheque. Supposed gone to Auckland.
Palmerston North. —Ist March last, with a view of compelling her to support her child, Mary Copestake, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 4 in., a domestic, three-quarter-caste Maori, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1900, page 206.) She may take the name of Hopkins.
Wellington.— sth ultimo, on warrant for deserting his wife, Jessie Wales, at Wellington, William Hardy Wales, age fifty, height 5 ft. 8 in., a painter, native of England, stout build, very short legs, dark-brown hair and moustache, blue eyes, wart on side of nose, front teeth missing; wears hair fairly long to hide scar on top of head.
Blenheim. —3lst ultimo, with a view of executing a distress warrant for failing to provide for bis children in the Wellington Receiving Home, Thomas Midgley, age about sixty, height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, grey beard and moustache, sharp features, a station cook ; usually dressed in tweed suit and grey slouch hat. His wife is residing at No. 11, Sages Lane, Wellington, with a man named Archibald Cooper.
Christchurch. —lst instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Eliza Proud, at Christchurch, Anthony Proud, ago twenty seven, height 5 ft. 7Jin., a labourer, native of England, fresh complexion, brown hair, pug nose, scar under left ear. He wrote from Wellington on 27th ultimo, but gave no address. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 71.)
Christchurch. —lst instant, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for three months for disobeying an order of Court to pay £1 a week towards the maintenance of his wife, Herbert Arthur Lawrence, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., a bootmaker, dark complexion hair and moustache, medium build, left middle finger missing, left handed; usually dressed in dark-tweed suit, and soft black-felt hat or tweed cap. Arrears, £5 17s. 6d.
Ashburton. —14th March last, on warrant for deserting his wife, Mary Callan, at Ashburton, Patrick Callan, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., a labourer, native of Ireland, slight build, small features, dark-brown beard and moustache turning grey. Offender has gone to Ireland. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 105.)
Methven. —3oth April last, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for one month in default of paying £2 2s. fine and costs for obscene language, William Humphrys, age fifty-five to sixty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., a labourer, native of England, medium build, light-brown hair whiskers and moustache turning grey, fond of drink ; calls himself the “ Bulldog.” Speaks with a nasal twang.
Waitati —25th ultimo, for escaping from Seacliff Asylum, Thomas Risk, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, dark hair and complexion, full dark beard, dark
moustache; dressed in dark-tweed suit, marked with a triangle. Committed from Invercargill in August, 1902.
Invercargill. —About 19th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide his wife with adequate means of support, Thomas Nicholls, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7in., a labourer, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, slight fair moustache, slight build, swaggering gait; usually dressed in slate-coloured suit and hard black hat. (See Police Gazette , 1899, page 40.)
