Pahiatua. —l7th instant, from PRENTER AND VILE, livery-stable keepers, a black hack gelding, aged, about 14J hands high, brand like H on near rump, clipped trace high, legs not clipped, one clipper-mark up gullet, small white star on forehead, white patches on back under the saddle ; a single-rein bridle, nickel bit with large rings, white fore-head-band ; a brown-leather stock saddle—new patch on near knee-pad, square nickel stirrup-irons, and folding leather girth : value, £ls. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, age about thirty-three, height about sft. 10in., supposed labourer, strong build, square shoulders, slovenly walk, rather high cheek-bones, small fair moustache only; dressed in grey coat, saddle-tweed trousers, rusty brown sweater, and soft black hat. He hired the horse, saddle, and bridle, and is now suspected of having sold them.
