EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Notice respecting Native and Imported Game. Colonial Secretary’s Office, Wellington, 21st April, 1904. riIHE attention of sportsmen, game-dealers, and others is I called to the provisions of “ The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1889,” “ The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1895,” “ The Animals Protection Acts Amendment Act, 1900,” and “The Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1908,” which are now in force. A digest of the chief of such provisions is subjoined, viz.:—

The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1889.” Section 4. No person shall kill, destroy, or shoot at any game or native game with anything but a shoulder-gun, and no such gun must exceed size No. 10 at muzzle, or be fitted with barrels exceeding 36 in. in length. No gun shall exceed 10 lb. in weight. Any person offending against this provision is liable to a penalty not exceeding £lO. Section 5. No person shall sell any native game, or take or kill any native game for the purpose of sale, without previously taking out the required license. Penalty not exceeding £2O. Section 6. No sale of native game shall take place except during the period within which such native game may be taken or killed.

If any person hold a license to sell game— i.e., imported game—he is not liable to pay a second fee on taking out a license to sell native game. But both licenses must be taken out if it is intended to sell both kinds of game.

“The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1895.” Section 6. Section 12 of “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880," is repealed. No person can now sell game, or dispose thereof for any gain or reward, unless he he the holder of a license to sell such game. Penalty not exceeding £2O,

“The Animals Protection Acts Amendment Act, 1900.” Section 3. No game or native game to be exported without the written consent of the Colonial Secretary, nor held in possession for a greater period than seven days after close of season, whether such game or native game be frozen, chilled, or not. Section 4. Native pigeon, pukeko, and kaka not to be taken or killed this year. “ The Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1903.” Section 2. Permits granted by Occupier to kill Game on his Land. RANFURLY, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this eleventh day of May, 1904. Present: The Honourable Sir J. G. Ward presiding in Council. JN exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1903,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make the following regulations respecting the mode of registering and recording appointments made under section four of the said Act, namely,— Regulations. 1. Whenever a person in bond fide occupation of any land appoints one other person to take or kill game upon such land such appointment shall be in writing, in the form or to the effect set forth in the Schedule hereto: Provided, however, that no person so appointed shall take or kill any imported game or native game except in accordance with the Animals Protections Acts and any regulations or notifications made thereunder. 2. The original appointment shall he given to the appointee, who shall produce the same for inspection on the demand of any Ranger or other person authorised to require the production of licenses issued under the Animals Protection Acts. 3. A copy of every such appointment shall forthwith be forwarded by the person so appointed to the Secretary of the Acclimatisation Society for the district, and notice in writing of the revocation of any such appointment shall be forwarded to the said secretary by the person making such appointment within twenty-four hours after such revocation. 4. If any person fails to observe or commits a breach of any of the foregoing Regulations, he shall be liable on conviction to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings.
