Constables P. Moore, No. 637, and H. G. Tull, No. 996, Lyttelton police, have been awarded £1 10s. each for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “ Archer.” (03/51.) Acting-Detective F. S. Cox, No. 714, and Constable A. Hammond, No. 706, Mount Cook police, have been awarded £6 each for arresting stragglers from H.M.S. “Wallaroo.” (03/51.)
Constables J. A. Raynes, No. 765, and E. J. Jones, No. 1055, have been awarded £3 and £2 respectively for services in obtaining the conviction of John G. Macdonnell for sly-grog selling at Balclutha. (03/38.) Constable J. Ly t ons, No. 984, Wellington police, has been awarded £3 for arresting an absentee from H.M.S. “Wallaroo.” (03/51.) Constable J. Copland, No. 587, Coalgate police, has been awarded £8 for arresting P. G. Lorryman, a deserter from H.M.S. “ Ringarooma.” (03/183.)
Payment of Gratuity for Conviction of Persons breaking Telegraph Insulators. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 186.) The Hon. the Postmaster-General has issued the following circular, dated February, 1903 : It is notified for general information that in cases where the evidence is practically the same against a number of persons, and the same persons are convicted at one hearing, a reward of £2 2s. is paid for each such batch of convictions, and not for each conviction obtained.
