Sydney. —On the evening of the 19th instant two armed offenders (since found to be identical with discharged prisoners George Shaw and George Skidmore, alias Malone, alias Whitton), whilst being arrested at the corner of Shepherd Street and Calder Road, Redfern, Sydney, on a charge of uttering counterfeit coins, fired at and killed Constable Denis Guilfoyle, and also seriously wounded Constable Michael Joseph Maher, Sydney police. Descriptions: George Shaw—-fifty-three to fifty-five years of age, 5 ft. B§in. high, about 11 stone weight, dark complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, wound on right side of neck, scar on heel of left thumb, little finger bent, scar on bridge of nose. A native of England. A shoemaker. George Skidmore, alias Malone, alias Whitton, &c. —About thirty-five years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, 11 stone weight, very bald on front of head, thin black hair, brown eyes, tattoo-spot over E on outside right forearm, dancing girl holding branch over her head on inside right ferearm, small anchor and spot on outside left forearm, rings on all fingers of left hand, scar on junction right thumb and forefinger, scars on heel of left thumb and under left eye ; said to have something of the appearance of a half-caste. Murder—£4oo Reward,

Whereas on the 21st instant a Government reward of £IOO was offered for the apprehension of each of the two offenders charged with the wilful murder of Constable Denis Guilfoyle, and also with seriously wounding Constable Michael Joseph Maher, of the Sydney police, at Redfern, Sydney, on the 19th instant. Notice is hereby given that in lieu of the above reward a Government reward of £2OO is now offered for the capture of each of the said offenders. John See, Premier and Chief Secretary.

Jacob Levinson, alias Stuckzinski, charged on warrant with stealing jewellery, value £l3O, the property of Laurits Petersen (the sum of £l9 and portion of jewellery recovered), has been arrested by Detective Kenny, Brisbane police. Remanded to Sydney, and committed for trial at quarter sessions.
