Mokau— James Howard (may be going under the name of Norton) is charged on warrant with theft, on the 28th ultimo, of a horse (recovered), the property of Charles Henry Wood; value, £7 10s. Description : A native of Scotland, a sailor, about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, stout build, fair complexion and hair, moustache only, has a twitch in one eye, girl tattooed on right arm, tattooed on fingers; has been employed on the Union steamers, and is said to have lived at Pipiriki; dressed in grey-tweed coat and trousers, blue-flannel shirt, and soft brown-felt hat. Supposed to have taken the train for Wellington.

Kimbolton. —Frederick J. Butement, hotelkeeper, reports supposed stolen, on the 27th ultimo, a chestnut mare, five years old, 15J hands high, no visible brands, a little white on off hind foot, long tail, well bred, very quiet; value £ls: a saddle with very large knee-pads, straps attached to saddle; a double-reined bridle, all horseshoe-pattern buckles except one on near rein ; value, £3. Suspicion attached to Fitz Spelman, who borrowed the horse, saddle, and bridle, and may have disposed of them. Description: A native of Germany, a labourer, about twenty-four years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, fresh complexion, small fair moustache only ; dresses well, attends race-meetings, and is supposed to have gone towards Ashhurst or Dannevirke.

Inglewood. Sydney Eason, school - teacher, reports stolen from the school paddock at Tariki, between the 28th December last and 10th ultimo, a light-chestnut gelding, four years old, 15 hands 3 in. high, white blaze down face, broken to light harness, branded R on off rump, blotched ; value, £ls. Identifiable.
