(See Police Gazette, 1897, page 11.) Auckland.- McNeill or Long, correct name Archibald John McNeil, has been charged by Detective W. Maddern,
Auckland police, with the theft of James Kincaid Alexander’s watch, and remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence. Watch not recovered.
Auckland. —Frank Little, undertaker, reports stolen from his workshop, Hobson Street, on the 15th or 16th ultimo, a pair of brown vicuna trousers, a black soft-felt hat, a pair of old braces, a large nickel-plated ratchet-brace and bit; value, £2 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Alfred Ashenden, a native of England, labourer, forty-one years of age, 5 ft. in. high, fair complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, broad nose, stout build (see Police Gazette, 1898, page 212).
Ponsonby (Auckland).— Rev. W. Ready reports stolen from St. John’s Wesleyan Schoolroom during a sale of work, on the 9th or 10th ultimo, four small blue or yellow pennant flags 2 ft. by 15 in. branded “ R.A.”, and two large flags, 6 ft. by 4 ft. 6 in. ; value £1 ss. Identifiable.
Paeroa. —Frank Ott reports that on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo the Paeroa Co-operative Butchers’ shop was broken into and the following stolen : Two butohers' knives, a small tin dish, a black waterproof coat with cape attached, a piece of cloth with button attached torn ; also a quantity of meat; value, £2 7s.
Napier. — Between the 26th September last and 10th ultimo an automatic weighing-machine, the property of G. L. Denniston, Dunedin, and an hospital-box, both in the Napier Railway Station, were broken open and the contents stolen. There is supposed to have been about 4s. in coppers in the weighing-machine.
Hastings. —W. M. Jacks, traveller for Abbot, Oram, and Co., reports stolen from his sample trunk at Waipawa or Hastings, between the 4th and Bth ultimo, a grey ostrichfeather boa, and a white ostrich-feather boa, two ostrich plumes, a feather boa, two dozen laoe scarfs (various colours), twelve children’s bibs, two ladies’ blouses, and a black-straw sailor hat; value, £l2 6s. 6d.
Palmerston North. — Walter Clifford is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 23rd August last, of a bicycle, the property of John B. Clarkson, cycle agent; value, £26. Offender is a native of England, an engineer, about thirtyfive years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, fair moustache only : usually dressed in dark-grey suit and black peak cap. Is married and has two children, and may be found working at some other employment than his trade. He obtained the bicycle on timepayment, gave a deposit of £5, and paid one instalment. The bicycle was recovered at Christchurch, where it bad been sold on the 17th September last for £l7.
Waitotara.— Stephen Cain is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 23rd ultimo, of a blue-cloth paget suit, a tennis shirt, and a brown soft-felt hat, the property of Alexander Forbes, labourer; value, £3. Offender is a native of Auckland, a labourer, twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, stoutish build, fair complexion and hair, no beard whiskers or moustache.
Johnsonville. —Robert Auty reports stolen from his store on the 25th or 26th ultimo 500, “ Kynock ” and “ New Rival,” No. 12, cartridges inclosed in a yellow box, addressed “ R. Auty, Porirua ”; value, £2.
Wellington. —Henry Davison, master mariner, care of Messrs. Ismay, Imrie, and Co., Leadenhall Street, London, reports stolen from his cabin on the s.s. “ Gothic, ” on the 29th ultimo, a gentleman’s nearly new heavy black-cloth sac coat and vest, “ Hobbs and Co., Christchurch, ” on tab of coat, a pepper-and-salt coloured tweed sac coat, not much worn, an aluminium cigarette-case (basket pattern), two note-books with “ White Star Line” and flag on them, also sundry private letters and papers bearing Mr. Davison’s name; value, £5. Identifiable.
Wellington. George A. Noble Campbell, accountant, No. 41, Daniel Street, reports stolen from the s.s. “ Mapouriki,” on the voyage from Nelson to Wellington, between the 29th and 31st July last, a small yellow tin trunk, locked and roped, 3 ft. by 3 ft., containing a complete black silk costume, a blue Melton jacket, a black Zouave jacket, a gold locket and chain, a tortoise-shell card-case, a black hopsaok skirt, a red cashmere dressing-jacket, a silver-mounted purse (green leather, containing 10s. 6d. in silver), a ladies’ hat, two children’s hats, two pairs ladies’ kid-gloves, two pairs children’s gloves, a writing-pad, three pieces point-lace, two children’s red-serge capes, two ladies’ fancy collars, ladies’ under-linen, £ lb. special tooth-paste, ten pieces scented toilet-soap, a razor, and six cigars; value, £27 10s. lOd. Identifiable.
Wellington. —James Millar Nicolson, late Captain in the 4th New Zealand Regiment, Roslyn, Dunedin, reports stolen from the s.s. “ Tagus,” between Dunedin and Wellington, between the 13ch and 18th June last, a gentlemen’s “ Singer ” roadster bicycle, No. 105,600 black enamelled
frame, tool-bag attached, branded “ F 199,” packed in a white wooden case branded “ Captain Nicolson, 4th N.Z. Regiment, c/o Pilcher, Esq., Capetown ” ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Edgar Gustav March, alias Marcks, &c.; charged with theft from John Munro Clark, has been arrested by Constable T. E. De Norville, Palmerston North police. He was going under the name of E. G. Krendall.
(See Police Gazette, 1901, page 213.) Manners Street (Wellington). —Theft of trousers from Findlay McLeod. Sarah Surrell, alias McGregor, and Annie Hamilton have been arrested for this, and several other similar offences, by Acting-Detective J. J. Cassells, Wellington police. The above stolen property not recovered.
Mount Cook (Wellington). —Joseph Lachman, merchant, reports stolen from an outhouse adjoining his dwelling, on the 27th or 28th ultimo, a large “C” office graphophone, with a record-holder ljin. longer than the ordinary ones, runs for an hour without winding ; also a record-producer, one small black horn, and two dozen records for graphophone; value, £ls. Identifiable.
Mount Cook (Wellington). —Charles and John Joseph Walton, carpenters, 65, Hopper Street, report stolen from an outhouse, at their dwelling, between the 14th and 28th ultimo, a jack-plane, two sash-planes, three hollow-planes, two round and two iron planes, three oilstones, three plough irons, a plough, a tenon-saw, four chisels, four German and twenty-five ordinary bits (various sizes), iron spokeshave, a 7 in. square, a red-baize and a dark-cloth pouch ; the woodwork of above tools stamped “ C. Walton ” : value, £4 ss. 9d. Identifiable.
Mount Cook (Wellington).— Arthur B. Pownall, bicycle manufacturer, Willis Street, reports supposed stolen on the Ist May last a gentlemen’s “ Red Bird ” bicycle, No. 27264, wooden rims, 26in. frame, rat-trap pedals, 84 gear; value, £l2. Suspicion attached to Frederick William Naumann, a canvasser, German descent, about thirty years of age, about 6 ft. high, well built, fair hair and complexion, fair moustache ®nly; usually wears light coat and vest, dark trousers, and soft brown hat; respectable appearance ; relatives live at Dunedin. He obtained the bicycle on the hire system, but failed to pay his first instalment, and may have sold the machine.
Ahaura. —Ernest Mclnroe, farmer, reports stolen from the Ikamatua Flag Station, between the 23rd September and the 2nd ultimo, eight bags of oats, marked E over G with a line between ; value £5 10s.
Christchurch. — Henry Grantham, alias Reid, alias Jones, is charged on warrant with the theft, between the Ist and 22nd ultimo, of 12s. lid., the money of Harry Robert Carter. Description : A native of New Zealand, a baker, thirty-one years of age, 5 ft. 2fin. high, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, long nose. (See Police Gazette, 1900, page 238.) He was employed by complainant, and collected the money and appropriated it to his own use.

Christchurch. —Frederick William Pengaley’s bicycle stolen. Ernest William Ernie, alias E. S. Witcombe, has been arrested for this offence by Constable J. K. Simpson, Kaiapoi police, on information supplied by Detective R. Marsack. Bicycle recovered.

Rangiora. —James Kirk’s shop broken into : Stanley Dale has been arrested for this offence by Acting-Detective J. Fahey, Christchurch police, and committed for trial. The following stolen articles have been recovered : Five wooden pipes, a meerschaum pipe, three pocket-knives, two shavingbrushes, two Kropp and a Bengal razor.

Timaru. —Joseph Sheppard Bennett’s shop broken into: The English lever watch, with hands missing, has now been ascertained to be No. 42023; and the other English lever watch is No. 151492.
Kaiapoi. —John Gaarder, storekeeper, reports stolen from outside his shop-window, on the 18th or 19th ultimo, two canvas sun-blinds, one 4 yards and the other 3 yards long, both 36in. wide, eight leather eyelets in each piece ; value, 15s.

Dunedin.— Reginald Wallace, alias Brady, charged with theft from Kate Gawne, has been arrested by Detective T. Boddam, Wellington police, and remanded.
Woodhaugh. —Harry and Sydney Drake, carpenters, report stolen from a shed at Leith Valley, on the 23rd or 24th ultimo, a rip-saw, a key-hole and a compass saw, a 10-in. square, stamped “F. Norman”; a 12-in. square, a pair of snips, two hammers, two two-foot rules, a smoothing plane, a spoke-shave, a level, three lj-in. chisels, a 1-in. chisel, a nail-pocket, and a tool basket; nearly all the tools stamped “E. S. Drake”: value, £B. Identifiable.
Ophir. —Harry Manson is charged with the theft, on the 22nd October, 1901, of a Post Office Savings-bank book and £7, the property of Henry Tweeddale, labourer. Description : About twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, fair hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache, has a glass eye, big toe of left foot off ; dressed in a blue-serge sac suit and brown soft-felt hat. He was working with complainant on the central line and received the money to bank, but has not been seen since. He is said to have come from Melbourne to New Zealand. No warrant.
